A difficult day today but facts are that we are in trouble with Mcleish

This is the hardest match report I have had to write as I wished the R word would not appear but impossible not to include it.

Lets start off with Petrov. From where I am in L8 I could not see him but it is clear the warmth around the ground for him. I am very proud of our reaction to him and his current troubles. On 19 minutes I had tears in my eyes at the standing ovation and all we can say is get well SOON Stan.

However with all the injuries and the results at Villa Park and elsewhere I can not say that relegation is no longer an issue. The table, fixture list and injury list says it all, I do not have to explain that to anyone. However yet more set piece goals cost us, what is it with free headers, is it impossible to pick up players ? that at the end cost us and then playing YET AGAIN players out of position, is the manager mad ?

Gardner and Bannan SHOULD never play left and right, what the hell is the point of that. Weimann clearly was the man of the match and after a shaky start Baker was OK but the the squad strength can be seen by the bench.

Do I have to remind people what happened to Blues at this stage 12 months ago and who the manager is. What the hell are we doing in training to get people like Cuellar and N’Zog injuries ?

So yes I expected a Chelsea loss today but not Wigan and QPR wins and now the pressure is on and the home games we have left become vital. However with 7 home losses already and only 4 wins can we expect to win any more given who we play.

How big is the Bolton game now ?

  1. 4 me we are ok this season, we will fluke a win from somewhere!! However, however!!!! I’m sorry but next season is a major worry and for me I think we are a dead cert to go down. MacLeish has had better players this year than arguably any time in his career, and we are awful, 7 wins all season???

Regardless of who he brings in I just can’t see it. His teams don’t score goals, they work hard, they hussle. Being honest I though he would of had us better organised though? It just ain’t working.

Like I said, we will survive this year though

  2. We’re in a real scrap to stay up now. Its not about todays result- it was an emotionally charged game, with several young inexperienced players so I doubt many expected much. Earlier in the season, we had runs of games against winnable opposition and time after time the team was set up negatively and we played very poorly.
Sadly, whatever happens over the coming weeks the future for our club looks very bleak. Even if we scrape survival, we’ll most probably be stuck with mcleish for another dismal season, where the height of our ambition will be to stay up. As I have said before, the whole sorry situation is making me feel more detached and bored with the club. Lerner doesn’t care- he made that clear when he ignored the fans anti Mcleish protests, yet we have been proved 100% right.
Given the injury problems it may be worth trying to get Makoun back from his loan if possible. After all he has plenty of experience which could be crucial. I don’t think the youngsters can cope with the pressure of relegation six pointers.

  3. so now you see it how much trouble we are in some people have had rose tinted glasses ian head in sand thinking we are too good to go down.. we are massive club but so where leeds newcastle when they went down.. it was nice to get glimpse of future today but why oh why was bannan and gardner on wings what a waste.herd is not a central midfilder gardener should ahve been there with albrighton wide from start.. one again stephen ireland man of match for me

  4. why are weak at corners givens the answer he never comes out for a corner but the big minus for me with him he does night organise the defence never shouts at them ,in my opinion guzan his a far better goalkeeper when it comes to shouting out orders, has to the game today it was an highly emotional day with the sad news of stan it was nice to see him and his family at the game my thought and best wishes for future stan and your family.it would have been nice if team could have got a more favourable result but it was always going to be hard given circumstances of past few days plus the injury problems and team needs our congratulations the effort they put in today, but the way coach set out the tactics for todays game there was only going to be one result, why his so negative when he knows we are going to give away goals it was not till he brought albrighton on did we look like salvage something from the game, and for a bad refs decision we may have got a point ,we have got some cracking good players if only the manager would let them play to there strengths instead of playing them out of position heis not only ruining a great football club he his damaging the careers of the youngsters.

  5. were in trouble because of the manager, not injuries. 7 wins all season not just since the injuries have happened, firstly bannan should not of been on the pitch imo, why play him on the right and gardner on the left neither of them were in the game. my team for liverpool would b given, lichaj, collins cuellar if fit and warnock, then i would go albrighton, gardner, ireland and carruthers, with gabby and wiemann up front. thought ireland had a good game and wiemann as he chased everything unlike gabby, mcleish needs to go now, no more excuses

  6. Even with very few players to choose from, Mcleish still got it wrong today!! Bannan and Gardner on the wings? Herd was the player in the middle making the passes, and he cant pass for sh*t!!
However, for me, seeing Petrov sitting in the stands, makes it hard to really get mad about things on the field. Its gonna be hard for us without his influence. We must pick up at least 4 points at home to Bolton and Stoke.

  7. I always said, that you can´t play a lot of youngsters together. I know, we had no other choice today, but I think everybody could see they are not ready yet. Bannan, Gardner, Baker, Weimann tried their best but they are not up to the challenge yet. Collins and Ireland were the most dominant figures in our team. Gabby tried but he isn´t at his best atm. Albrighton almost changed the game and was tremendous. With such a injury list he should be a fix starter. I´m at little bit disappointed with Given. I expected more presence at corners from him and he can´t organize our young defenders at set pieces. We need Cuellar back as soon as possible. I am optimistic we will avoid relegation but it will be a big test for all of us.

  8. i thought the younger players did well today. it was bound to take them a little while to settle, esp those bein played out of position. thought lichja did very well at rb in general play. the set piece defending thou is just beyond a joke now, how they havnt been able to sort it over course of season is carzy.
the run in is looking alot more nerve racking now than thought it would.
huge credit to all fans today.. great show of support to stan

  9. Although to a fan we all wish Stan a speedy recovery, I hope this sad news isn’t a escape clause for Mc Leish to stay at VP. The sooner he and his cronies depart VP the better for all. With the results today (pity Mark Hughes is a defeatist like McLeish) He could be going for his hat trick of relegation. Sickening to see Faulkner hogging the tv screens to explain about Stan, Pity he didn’t do the same to explain to the fans why they thought Mcleish was suitable to manage this great club. Sad times indeed.

  10. First off, full credit to every supporter at VP today, inclusive of the Chelsea fans that applauded after 19 minutes, and to hear Petrov just before the game put it all into perspective.
As for the game, yep, we showed some resiliance and had a go, but lets be straight here, our manager, yet again stuffed up with tactics, even if the selection was forced, the fact is that he is tactically inept.
It’s probably not the right time to rant after the last 24 hours, but make no mistake, we really could go now, just look at the run in, where are the next 4 points going to come from…

  11. The last post should have read isn’t a defeatist

  12. Let’s face it, we’re in big, big trouble.
After the Fulham game, I wrote on here that I thought our PL status was safe for this season, barring a freakish configuration of results in remaining fixtures. Well, the nightmare scenario may be starting to pan out. Blackburn, QPR, Wigan and Bolton are scrapping for their lives. We, meanwhile, are displaying all the buoyancy of a lead balloon under the inspired leadership of the triumvirate of Lerner, Faulkner and McIdiot; I can’t guess where our next point might come from.
It becomes more apparent every day that we are now a club in great crisis. Even if we manage to stay up this year, the future looks bleak. Our owner, his board and CEO show staggering ineptitude. There’s no sign of a vision or strategy for the club beyond the limited ambition of clinging on to our increasingly tenuous Premiership status. They have allowed the mindset of defeatism and complacency to infect the entire club. Time was when I despised Deadly as a self-serving, pompous windbag, but I’m starting to think that Randy Lerner is such a dud that he makes Deadly look like a genius.
On the park, we’re led (if one can use that term in the context of McIdiot) by a man whose lack of motivational skills and tactical nous was apparent to every supporter even before our Beloved Leader made his incomprehensible decision to appoint him, thus sticking up two fingers to us all in the process. Two relegations in three years told their own story to everyone but Lerner and Faulkner, and now it’s looking increasingly likely that McIdiot will make it three in four, not that it will be any fault of his, you know. Ironically, Lerner probably even thinks that McIdiot is doing a reasonable job; he fronts up and takes most of the flak that’s flying about. If we somehow contrive to stay up, he’ll probably get a fat bonus. If we go down, he’ll be the man to get us back up at the first opportunity.
However I look at things, I can’t see them getting better while Lerner retains what he once referred to as the custodianship of the club. Fact is, he owns Villa lock, stock and barrel, and I see no evidence that he has the will or the inclination to take the sort of hard decisions necessary to try to turn things around. We’re locked into a steep spiral of stagnation and decline, and there’s no telling just how far from grace our fall will ultimately prove to be. I would say that things are getting so bad that we’ve become a laughing stock to rival fans, but it’s even worse than that. They are starting to feel sorry for us, we’ve become an object of pity. In short, I reckon we’re daffy ducked. Thanks, Randy, you’re doing a great job of turning us into the new Sheffield Wednesday.

  13. No goals from the attack defence cannot
defend and midfirsteld none existent. No i did not go but listening on the radio driving through France you could feel what was happening. The players have lost belief and what one player on chelsea bench is worth more than your total reserve squad. i don’t know what we are doing. Remind one or
two players that other teams are playing football and hardwork – swansea, fulham, norwich.

    wo
players that fulham swansea norwich are doing it by hsrdwork

  14. One of 2 thing was going to get the blame for today’s shocking performance & I’m hearing Grant has blamed the kids..I thought they would do this or blame the Petrov situation…Lets face it this pair of Scottish Cu@ts have turned our club into a joke!!!

Have a look in the Mirror GRANT you fucking useless prick and there is half the reason or team plays such dire cack Football…have a look in your pants and you’ll see a ginger bollock very similar to the fucker you hand excuses to every 5min the other half of our shambles….

    BOTH PLEASE JUST FUCK OFF!!!!!

  15. Alex McLeish will get Aston Villa relegated.

    Final table prediction:
    .
    .
    .
    18. [QPR or Wigan]
    19. Aston Villa
    20. Wolves

LOL. Hasn’t that Scot already jinxed Birmingham enough?

  16. It’s disgraceful the way supporters like iantobbo refuse to acknowledge there part in our clubs current position. Iantobbo refused to accept Lerner was in it only for the money refused to criticise the appointment of AM. Ian you and the other Lerner supporters are as much to blame. Don’t be hypocritical you backed Lerner so stick with him. You even refused to accept we are in a relegation battle stating we are safe, how wrong are you, do you feel embarrassed? Shows you know little about football and our great club. We are strong candidates to go down fact. May be this te you will listen and support the removal of Lerner? AM is a third rate manager at best, but the person responsible for hiring him and our clubs situation is Lerner. Surely even you can see it’s now time to use your site to call for him to go, Lerner out

  18. Who the fuck is this grant guy and how the fuck has he managed to get coaching at villa. Every time I see him on the side line he looks like he talks shite into the players ears and they are thinking what is this nob on about. Way out of his depth its clear to see.

  19. First of all I was there and was impressed with the reception Stan got, he was well respected Chelsea fans and players. Now to the nitty griitty, my dad and I said back in December villa will get relegated this season because we can see McLeish hasn’t got a clue.
Lerner and Faulkner are as bad.
Please explain why McLeish plays players out of position? Gardner is not a left midfielder, he is right footed and why Bannan is on the right when he is a left footer. Both are central midfielders.
He gets the shape wrong every game, I’m sorry when are pol going to wake up Agbonlahor is a waste of space and needs to be sold, the guy is lazy and will on run into channels. He don’t close down, his touch, skill and finishing are poor.
Who the he’ll gave him the captains armband because that is shambolic, the guy hasn’t got a brain and is never a leader.
Ireland again was class above the rest, he is our best player and anyone who don’t see that needs footballing lessons.

Now ppl who refuse villas demise to the championship need to wake up fast as villa won’t pick up a single point till the end of the season. You can write off man united, Liverpool, tottenham as they far superior than us.

Stoke will out muscle us and win, Norwich will out play us at carrow road, Bolton will beat us through the lift of muamba, west brown will beat us at the hawthorns through battling. Sunderland will out play us as MON will fire them up.

Trams like Wigan, Bolton, Blackburn and QPR will nick wins here and there, like I said since ppl were saying they are poor teams. QPR have strikers and midfielders who score. We don’t have shots a goal so we won’t be scoring. Agbonlahor won’t score a single goal to the end of the season.

McLeish, Lerner and Faulkner are the reason behind the demise.
Also did you know McLeish is the 20th highest paid manager in the WORLD?
That is why he won’t be sacked. Too much compensation again.

We are going down and ppl need to be realistic, no point saying we are too big, too much quality or the teams are so poor around us.
The manager has had no clue from day one.
Agent McLeish for the Blues is destroying our club.

When we got to 2-2 yesterday he makes a sub that cost us, heskey on for Weimann, straight after that Chelsea scored the third.

Heskey don’t score goals so why bring him on?
Now proof yesterday what a top striker can do, Torres never really had a sniff all game but one chance and he scores. Gabby had a couple of chances and hit it straight at Cech and even though offside missed the target from 10 yards.
Ppl need to realise gabby wouldn’t get in a top 10 team in the EPL and is average at best. The club needs to flush crap out such as Agbonlahor, Warnock, Hutton, Heskey, Collins and Marshall.

  20. If you go to games and handover youroney you are supporting lerner and contributing stop giving Lerner your money or be quiet. You can’t have it both ways. Stop being hypocritical like ian robbo Lerner out
