Webb to ref World Cup Final, not fit to referee Sunday League (remember Wembley)
FIFA have announced that Howard Webb is to ref the World Cup final on Sunday between Holland and Spain and how is this Villa related you ask ?
I am sure in the past Webb has given us decisions and not given us them but for all of us I would think the FA Cup Semi Final particularly stands out.
OK I am may be a one eyed Claret and Blue Fan but he was awful that day, no worse than that. He never gave us nothing all game from the clear penalty on Gabby until the incident I will always remember him for.
What was it ? In the 73rd minute or so Milner was breaking through and the donkey John Terry desperate to prove he is a quality defender (ha ha) lunged if that is the right word with studs up straight into Milners lower leg. If Milner had had his foot on the ground it would have possibly been a compound fracture of his leg, the clearest sending off you will see.
The result, well Terry is a big name player and Webb speaks to them so he got just a yellow. To make matters worse he allowed play to go on and Petrov was breaking through and brought down by the already booked Deco and what happened, NOTHING.
Should have been two sendings off, clear and simple and we win the game
but Webb like Dowd bottled it in a big game where we had so called big teams playing.
A bottler and he gets to ref the final.
No justice.
England Squad announced – 4 Villa players included
Stewart Downing, James Milner, Emile Heskey, Stephen Warnock have all been included in the England squad just announced for the Egypt friendly on Wednesday.
Good news for all of them and clearly all have an excellent chance to go to South Africa.
Really disappointed for Ash Young not to be in the squad, he is on form, he is creating and playing well, Shaun Wright-Phillips and Theo Walcott are NOT is form and NOT being picked regularly, this goes against what Fabio Capello has said before and he is being shortsighted on his picks.
Dunne and Ireland cheated by Henry
At Villa we have been very proud in the 90’s to have a long list of distinguished Irish players, Staunton, Houghton, Townsend and of course God himself, Lord McGrath. To that List Richard Dunne is a very welcome addition so it was anticipation I watched tonight’s play off game against France.
For a long period of time Ireland looked very good and Dunne was magnificent as a leader and a fantastic centre back. Everything France threw at him he repelled with class and determination. Little was he to know that a cheat called Thierry Henry would then come along and change the whole game as it was appearing to head towards a penalty shoot out.
So because of that piece of cheating from Henry it now means Villa as it stands will only have World Cup representation from any of the English lads who may be picked and after Saturday James Milner looks a shoo he, doesn’t he ?
At the end of game we saw Henry and Dunne sitting together chatting how Dunne did not wallop him I do not know has he just accepted it was part of the game ?
Never mind let him take out his frustration against Burnley on Saturday !!
A Villan (Benjamin Siegrist) wins the World Cup
Congratulations to youth team keeper Benjamin Siegrist who not only was the Goalkeeper of the U-17 World cup in Nigeria but was outstanding in the final against Nigeria where Switzerland won one nil.

benjamin siegrist
Along with England Under 18 keeper Elliot Parish and of course Brad Guzan then we have some magnificent prospects for the day Brad Freidel retires.
Gabby watch for England
I was very surprised after Milner was sub on Saturday to see him start from the bench but delighted to see Gabby get his start.
After three minutes Gabby showed how he has improved from a good pass by Barry he had the pace to take it forward and a bit of a scuffed cross and an untidy finish by Crouch meant Gabby already justified his place.
Then after 21 minutes Gabby gets set free and showed some poise and obviously pace to get a shot on target, good stuff from a player who 7 months ago was getting booed from the villa ‘faithful’, they should be embarrassed.
It was a decent first half from Gabby but it is true to say that England are not sure how best to play to his strengths and down the channels with his pace and power. As I continued to watch the game the mystery was how SWP can be picked on the left instead of Milner.
The second half left off where the first ended, very low key but Gabby at least produced something after an hour which got a corner which led to the SWP goal. Then luckily for us came off nice and fit and ready for Chelsea.
Gabby can be happy with his nights work done his chances no harm at all with one assist and a bit of power running to get the corner for the 2nd goal.
Finally after 75 minutes Milner got on, as LEFT BACK !! hmmmm
Well deserved England call ups
It is looking likely that tomorrow we will see an England team with Milner on the left and Gabby playing up front alongside Crouch.
This is just reward for both players who have started the season off very well and it shows that Fabio
Capello does reward good and consistent performances in the league.
Milner on the left is of course not his ideal position but in the friendly against Holland showed a lot of promise and some very good delivery. I have never made it a secret how much I admire Milner and his professionalism and for one of the nice guys in football he has deserved this.
Gabby as we know had a rocky end to the last season but in the summer despite the England Under-21 tournament he somehow managed to baulk up really well and this season, well he has been the star of the season. Despite the increased bulk he has lost none of his speed and the bulk has meant he can now hold off players who are very scared of his pace and he has really impressed.
What of course we hope from a Villa perspective is that the usual disease of an England call up does not strike and their performances go downhill.
