Here is a good statistic article submitted by Lernerslostit, what a name; but anyway he looks at some statistics and compares it those teams that have been relegated a couple of seasons ago.
I like a good stat me. To me Goals, Assists, Passes, Tackles and Saves should define a footballer (As necessary per position). I don’t get stuff like “he tries hard” etc. not quantifiable in this brain of mine.
So I kept a pretty up to date stat collection until I forgot over December (some stupid Holiday thing happened and I spent a fair part drunk depressed with Villa’s results).
Today I updated the manager stats to find that Lambert’s league record is the worst stretching way back to before my birth…
Paul Lambert
Played 27
Won 5
Drew 9
Lost 13
Points per game = 0.89
To put that in context
Mcleish 1.00 ppg
Houllier 1.24 ppg
MON 1.49 ppg

As you can see the decline has been shocking. That only started what is the point of my article. It made me think;
“How many points per game did the relegated teams get last year?”
So I looked it up and the 4 seasons before that to make it thorough. What I found makes the current situation even scarier.
In 4 of the past 5 years our current form would have relegated us.
The Full tables can be seen at: http://www.tinyurl.com/avfcform
Now let’s look at it as an overall. With a current points per game at 0.89 and our current goal difference; these are the teams that would have stayed above us on form over a season:
11/12
Bolton 36pts 0.95ppg
10/11
Blackpool 39pts 1.03ppg
Small heath 39pts 1.03ppg
09/10
No one.
08/09
Newcastle 34pts 0.89ppg (Goal diff 7 better than ours)
07/08
Reading 36pts 0.95ppg
Small Heath 35pts 0.93ppg
If this form continues, the only thing I can see is Relegation.
And the scary thing is weird “faiths” have led us sleepwalking towards this.

Going down with a whimper. In every aspect Lambert has been a disaster. Terrible results, abject performances and shocking signings.
Worse than McLeish in every way, and that takes some doing.
Lambert Out
Oh Please! Just when you think this site couldn’t get more negative you start running stories from the person who rejoices in Villa doing badly. As they say, you can tell any story with statistics – doesn’t mean it’s true.
Hi Stats are better than opinions. You were wrong 2 years ago and carry on been so.
And here comes Mr Negative Mk II. Deep joy.
I think you are getting negativity confused with the truth.
What about the story of Aston Villa being in the relegation zone, with the worst goal difference in the league, suffered countless good hidings including a record 8-0 defeat. Having a manager that has brought in lower league tripe that isnt even championship standard and one of the worst defenders we have ever had in Vlaar.
Does the truth hurt?
Face up and admit the terrible job he is doing, or are you scared somebody will doubt your support.
Pathetic
1987=2013
the comparisons are all there really not least a team stripped of all the best players by an owner determined to cut costs. Problem is that there is no Graham Taylor on the horizon to rescue us.
The next three games are crucial. Lose all three and this season has gone pear shaped. If the team can get 5 out of 9 then there is light at the end of the tunnel. I rather doubt gettting anything from man city, but if we do not beat at least QPR at home and get something from reading away it is the end.
The really scary thing is however the silence of the lions. Much moaning on the internet, but not a single meeting called. WOlves fans grilled the owner last wednesday at a fans parliament. We have no forum, no debate, no chance to meet…. and a fan base which doesn’t do anything.
Guess if the season ends badly there will be fans protests. But nothing to make the club change. I kept my share, never took the money. Most people now moaning cashed in. So they told Lerner they didn’t want a voice.
Time to get a voice back, and that means a plan, not simply protesting.
I don’t see it happening, but suprise me. Look to the future and we could do a swansea.
Its not impossible. But the fans have to get off their butts to make a difference.

Nothing will happen, Villa fans are too scared to have a voice. Wasting your breath, apathy has ruled at Villa Park for far too long now,
RIP Aston Villa FC as we know it
nah 5 is not enough, we simply have to beat QPR and Reading and if Reading, Southampton and Wigan all win (that is possible) this weekend we are really in it, expect at leats one to win – Southampton
5 definitely not enough……QPR, Reading and the Villa Down, cant see us string a couple of wins together Wigan are playing some good football (as normal this time in the seasonm) and no not negative just a realist
We will be eaten alive in the Championship once, Benteke, Weimann, Nzogbia etc are sold to ‘balance the books yet again !
Lerner is a prick who has lost interest in his toy, Faulkner knows fuck all about fuck all and Lambert is a bumbling fool, who was sold down the river !
I don’t agree with you about Wigan.
That was their first win since they beat us and they are leaking goals like a sieve.
I think that it’ll be a close run thing, and that we are actually picking up a bit and should finish the stronger.
They have Liverpool, Everton and Newcastle in their next few games, and finish with Spurs, WBA & Arsenal away and then us.
I can see it going down to a duel at the Dave Whelan Bowl.
last season all i wanted was us to play football this season some of the football has been good going forward with the slashing of the wage bill over the last couple of seasons an experienced defender was a must befour the window shut now lerner is gambling the future of avfc and the championship is calling how much longer can we watch cardboard ron clarke and bennett not do the basics attack the ball ffs
Ffs is villa still in buisness?is there a match tomorrow?

I expect nothing on Monday night, but we have to get something from the next couple of games. We battled well at Arsenal and really should have snuck a point. I can’t see Citeh being as awful as they were at Southampton, so we have a fight on our hands.
I can’t understand these people that state that we have to win five or more of the remaining fixtures though.
That may be true compared to the average required most seasons, but I don’t see Reading and Wigan winning every other game, and it’s a straight run to the finish now we’re in the last couple of furlongs of the season.
I think that we’ll have just enough, but it’ll be close.
As for sleepwalking into relegation, I think we’ve all known all season that it’s a possibility, although beginning of December it looked remote.
Just got to hope and pray for some performances and the rub of the green.
Wigan will, they always do. We need 5 wins minimum, we’ll be lucky to get 2 with lamberk in charge.
Vaze shitty have bad days at the office,i hope it’s tomorrow they are beatable keep the faith mate.
The game is Monday night Giddy, or are you trying to catch me out ?
It’s about time we beat them but even when they were crap they were our bogey team.
Come on guys, we beat them 4:2 at the manchester city council stadium. Ok, it was a pleasant surprise, but why can’t it happen again? 7 points from Citeh, Reading and QPR and it will look so different. The glass is half full!!!!
That was a league cup game that they couldn’t give a crap about. In the league they will batter us. There is 0% chance we will get 7 points from the next 3. Lamberks losers are only going to humiliate themselves and this once proud club again.
Useless twats, the lot of them.
Vaze youre totally right what a twat i am,what the fuck was i thinking.no mate i wasn’t trying to catch you out,it’s just me being forgetful.my appologies.
Anyhow, Saturdays games have all gone in our favour, so 3 points man city or even a point (a bit more likely) on monday, will get us out of hell.
