Late goals, the statisitics, lost 9 points

Lets look at just how many points we have lost or gained due to goals after the 80th minute.

These are the games affected –

Fulham A – lost one point
Norwich City H – Lost two points
Man Utd H – Lost one point
Reading H – Gained two points
Swansea A – Lost two points
West Brom A – Lost two points
Everton A – Lost two points
Arsenal A – Lost one points

So there we are in 8 games we have lost a net 9 points due to late goals. We do not have to be reminded just how important those 9 points are which would have left us in comfortable relaxed 11th place.

Just how many points we have lost after taking the lead would I think be another 4/5 points and therefore be challenging for top 8. Now does that mean the team is vastly under performing or something drastically wrong with losing so many ?

Of course every team loses points to late goals but some will balance it up with points gained. Our tallies are so one sided though ….

  1. Agreed, the late goals conceded have relegated us, along with Lamberk’s refusal to buy experienced defenders.
Just how many goals have we scored to gain points ourselves in the last 10 minutes, very few, if any.
The mentality is all wrong, they get penned in and you see it coming every week. The fact the management have not addressed it is beyond a joke. Lamberk is out of his depth

  2. It probably makes no difference, but how many of these late goals have we conceded in the absence of vlaar.does anyone know?it’s purely just a thought.

  3. How convenient of the author of this piece to overlook the remaining 90% of the matches to construct a phony argument.

We’ve also been shit in the other 80 minutes as well.

  4. i saw villa blow it again ~ the tactics were spot on, just the players bottled it in the vital periods of the game. villa seem 2 av a mentle block in the last ten minutes of a games~ its happened all season instead of seeing out games KEEPIN THE BALL ~ they allow the opposition to build up pressure and pump balls in2 our box as we retreat on the villa goal line~ i can’t see us getting out of this habit and see no future4 this group of players as a team ~ indivuals are good but they av no leader and no balls collectivly ~ we r doomed up the villa

  5. We could very well have lost the everton and norwich games. These were points gained in my view rather than points lost. Theres little or no context given. Man Utd were always going to beat us. Even at two nil down you could sense a comeback.

Swansea City away should have been a heavy defeat. They played us off the park that day. In addition this game was immediately after the heavy defeats to tottenham and chelsea. Not the worst point in the world.

    • I take it that if you go into the last ten minutes level or winning you really should hold on. Late goals happen of course but they normally balance itself outself for and and against. Not the case for us at all.

  6. Hi fellow Villians.Shame about yesterday nearly grabbed a point from the mighty arse at the emirates. It was no drubbing the arse are a top team.We have lost a fair amount of points which we should of held onto but this is football and that happens to every team across the world. We need to win 2 games on the bounce we are playing ok so realistically we might stay up it will be a close one.Be good to do Man city anything can happen in football UTV.:)

    • JD you’re right it can and does happen to every team at some point but I’ve got to agree with Ian on this; we’re not balancing it out at all and could cost us badly this season. As much as people are mixed in vlaar I think we missed him yesterday as he does talk to the other younger defenders and leads the line quite well.

      • totally agree on Vlaar and I think some over rate Clark and Baker far too much …

Vlaar being out means Bennett in … er,,,,

        • I know strange one we really needed a strong CB in Jan to partner Vlaar or deputise when he’s out.Man city big game grab 3 there be amazing.

          • Beat man city you must be joking, our losers have no chance. Lamberk is a clueless moron. So much for his “12 cup finals”, he couldn’t even beat a 4th tier side to win a cup semi. Every single person knew we needed an experienced centre half (as well as an experienced full back) except for LAM-BERK and LERNER. Can see why they get on, its hard to find two bigger idiots in the game.

          • we have a good chance to beat only because they are poor at the moment …

however the total failure to get at least one defensive quality player in the winter is again costing us

  7. This is another stupid negative argument. You could say the same thing about the times we have scored i.e….we have a pretty decent first half record….but thats clearly to obvious a positive point so surprise me and dont publish it!
    Fucking joke

  8. just watched man city beat chelsea and they looked far from poor ~ strong all round performance ~ if they play like that against us. can’t see anything but a heavy defeat ~still depressed up the villa

  9. Lads.. its a shambles from top to bottom..

What Lerner did in the Jan window is something i will never forget.. the way he hung us out to dry was shocking.. we aren’t Swindon Reading etc who have flukely come up so forget investing.. we are a team that has NEVER been relegated from the Prem.. have gates above 30K each home game.. to give next to no money and also say no one can be on more then 20K a week when we are desperate for players is unforgivable.. people keep saying why did we buy Sylla.. well when you have a 1M to play with and 10K in wages who the hell can you bring in.. you have to just take a punt..

Lerner couldn’t even be pro active and use the wages we we saved on Warnock Hutton plus Dunne and Petrov out of contract to bring in a decent CB and DM..

The guy has not got a scooby how to run a football club.. he gave Oneil a blank cheque to have the likes of Beye and L Young sitting in the stands on 40K each.. after that he couldn’t appoint a decent manager and has just stumbled his way thru to the point of relegation.. even if we got rid of PL can anyone really tell me this Buffoon could appoint the right man..

PL has many faults but what he was left to deal with in the Jan window will always be his excuse.. but having said that his tactics when Bradford equalised in the second leg were shocking.. league park football is the only place you see 4 strikers all in the box and the ball being lumped in.. not a game plan from a Premier League team.. i am 50-50 on PL.. i would say sack him but i have no faith in RL in appointing someone who can take us forward.. we have no one higher up at club with any football knowledge..

Us fans are fickle.. if miraculously we could stay up get lucky with a few more Benteke’s in the summer and we turn it around then we will forget the Jan shambles.. but it will take something remarkable for me to forget it totally.. sad times..

  10. So what do we do curl up and die or keep a stiff upper lip and carry on?Christ the baggies have been relegated only as far back as 3 year ago I think and they have come back stronger so will we.UTV:)Its not over yet.

  11. JD where have i said its is all over.. i am talking about the club in general and how it is being run from top to bottom.. i have not said anywhere we are down.. the QPR and Reading games will decide that fate.. one way or another..

Plus i don’t want to be compared to the baggies.. never been out of the Prem and after spending 200M we shouldnt be in this position.. its been badly run..

    • He couldn’t carry on spending and getting nothing back money doesn’t grow on trees.AVFC has to earn its keep and rightly so.It is on the players and manager to do so.UTV

  12. i agree jd oneil had spent loads and like lionheart said some was in the stands permantly heskey must av been a long joke ~ look at swansea wage bill iam sure its lower than villas,
somat is wrong if they produce football like they do for a wage bill far less plus the villa training facitiies, i av never felt this bad since we lost top flight in 87 but u2 are rite we aren’t down yet need some results but its still possible i will carry on dreaming

  13. on the point of the late goals when i’ve been watching on tv you can see it in the faces of the players especially the defenders, they look scared like they’re thinking ‘oh shit we’re going to conceed again’ and they do, that has got to be down to lack of experience and confidence and of course the more it happens the worse it gets. we turned a comfortable looking win against west ham in to a nail biting last 10 mins.
i will say we have been playing better lately but is it too little too late, never mind the late goals we should have been beating teams like wigan, southampton, and newcastle at home, zero point from those 3 games is very, very poor never mind the fact we all should have been at wembly today making a game of it against swansea.
we are in relegation form and have been all season, if we escape it will be something special.
one thing its going to be exciting huh? not the mid table nothing to play for mediocrity people were predicting pre season ;)
    UTV

    • totally totally agree with that ~ its like the 80 minute fear grips them, they start kickin the ball away, anywhere will do attitude, we are like audrea harrison of football,
      ~ huggin 4 dear life and scared 2 throw a punch ~

  14. dont forget bradford millwall cup should have been at wembley today and back for facup looking at the draw o what a year it could have been

  15. It’s not worth dwelling over the past,we should be concentrating on whats ahead.weve got a tough run in now which i hope is a successful one.it’s no good rattling on about the might of beens.it’s too depressing.utv

    • God, how important the QPR and Reading games are going to be, nothing less than two wins will do and still it will come down to the last game of the season, when we will need to beat Wigan to stay up. Talk about a squeaky bum!

  16. Villa are fucked, weieman wont sign a new contract, benteke will leave we will get relegated lose 90 million and draft away to blue sq thanks to lerner and faulkner think of the bigger picture lads we should hav been boycotting and protesting from day one of this season but it is to late now you fans are just as much to blame as lerner how can anyone sit there and watch villa is beyond me same shit different game
