Very sad news today.
The Irish great Con Martin has died.
He was 89 and made 200 appearances for Villa after signing from Leeds and made the unique feat of playing in goal and in the outfield. In fact he played in nearly every position, probably stemmed from his Gaelic football roots.
He holds the distinction of being in the first foreign team – Ireland that beat England on home ground at Goodison PArk in 1950.

I believe he went in goal after our keeper was injured and he played so well he was picked there for the next game. Maybe a certain Mr Crandles can confirm?
