Benteke Talk Bothering me

Benteke is being linked with a host clubs, not only in the Premier League but now also overseas. In my opinion it’s getting a little out of hand, these rumours are being made daily, and it seems as a new club is being linked with Benteke everyday. His agent isn’t helping either.

I don’t want to see Benteke leave at the end of the season, if we get relegated, fine, fair enough; he can move on. But if we don’t, this young Villa side will only improve; Lambert will see many players leave and will bring in more. The future looks bright, but not if Benteke leaves. There is no doubt we will see him a top side in the future. But now, I hope that Benteke can respect his contract at Villa for at least a season or two more.

Benteke’s attitude is right, he hasn’t spoken to the media and that’s good (apart from the Arsenal thing of course). One of my only hopes is that this doesn’t effect that club internally, although I doubt that’ll be the case.

As I write this last bit, I realised that it’s difficult to convey my point. But I’m sure that the majority of fans understand what I’m writing about. These Benteke rumours are really bothering me!

  1. Beneteke, what half a season and he wants off? I truly disrepair and my hatred toward the modern game grows daily.
To those of you old enough to remember cast your minds back to October 75- We signed young unknown from Dundee, a Mr Andrew Fortescue Mullen Gray who went and scored 25 in his first season. He followed that up with 29 and was voted PFA Young Player of the Year and PFA Players’ Player of the Year the following season and stayed until Sir Ron decided he was surplus to requirements and shipped out in 79.
No Man U’s/Ci£ies/Chelskis or agents turning his head after 6 months. God the modern game truly fucking sucks and Jean-Marc Bosman is was and forever will be a C**T!

  2. As much as i would love Benteke to stay, he did the same to Genk.
A bigger fish came in for him and he let them know he wanted out and there was very little to stop him other than Genk trying to hold out for as much as they could get.

I hope we play the same hard ball approach and don’t just accept a deal because it is double what we paid.
if as many clubs are after him as are rumoured a bidding war should start.

Really we do what Swansea did with Michu and offer him a new lucrative deal – Give him the option.

The grass isn’t always greener – As Tony Morley says, once you have played for Villa you realise there are only a couple of clubs in this country that are genuinely a step up.

  3. It’s great that even though he can’t move until the summer, and could have a shocking second half of the season, that this is news worthy.

The main bone of contention for me is any mentioning of his value doubling? Personally I think he he has a good remainder of the season, we ask for £30 million or just tell clubs to F off. In fact I’d say £35 million to spurs, there’s no way I’d want to sell to that prick levy.

I guess in a 24/7 media where they need fill news papers and web pages. But it’s a non story it doesn’t matter, we know he will probably go, he knows the better he plays the more he will be paid and the better the club. We want him to play well, so lets just concentrate on matches.

  4. You have to put it in perspective.

If we stay up and Benteke goes for £20m, it gives us a chance to build, as we’ll have probably seen Bent, Dunne, Hutton etc off the wages too.

He is good, and could be great. He could also have an average second season, and we’ll be back to slagging him off for missing sitters.

If Everton lose Fellaini, Liverpool Suarez or Spurs Bale, that is a huge hole in their side.

    Benteke is not irreplaceable.

    • And vase you are 100% this money is going to be reinvested? Well I doubt that very much. And if it is and we were to find another decent player or two do we build a team around them or are off to highest bidder after after 12 months as seems par for the course at VP?
Go on name a replacement of similar ability, Benteke may be replaceable but with who? Selling him is a statement of intent by the club- Always a bridesmaid, never a bride’.

  5. When has it ever been any different ?

The only times I can remember that players haven’t been sought after from us is when they completely flop !

Is it different to any other club in fairness ?

When the Summer comes, clubs higher up the food chain feed on others.

Genk, Crewe, Boro, Sheff U, Feyenoord etc would have loved to have kept their players but we came calling.

I can’t name suitable replacements of similar ability, I couldn’t have named Christian Benteke prior to him being linked with us.

My only concern is the game tomorrow and survival. Benteke is making the headlines right now, but come June it’ll be all about Bale, Suarez, Fellaini and co.

    • The club can’t wait to sell, pocket the cash and then fail to re invest in the team.
Can see Benteke as Spurs, Levy will get him on the cheap as we all know how he has made a mug out of Faulkner before (then again who hasn’t!)
Oh and I doubt Boro wanted to keep Bennett, nobody in there right mind would want that useless turd in their team. Their fans were laughing when we bought him.

    • When has it ever been any different ?
Back in the day when we were winning titles and European cups!
I can’t remember clubs sniffing around after Shaw, Cowans or Morley- it was very different then.
And what it’s come to when we are comparing AVFC to Genk, Crewe, Boro, Sheff U and Feyenoord.
What was that slogan he came up with; proud history, bright future? More like the Sex Pistols; No future, no future, No future for you.

      • Or should I say the title and European cup.

        • Not so sure about that.

Didn’t Cowans and Rideout go to Bari, long before Platt, and McMahon and Gibson went to Liverpool and Man U respectively. I remember Hodge pissing off as soon as he got a World Cup call up.

Short of being a Collymore, Balaban or Curcic, our better players have always been sought after.

As for Lerner investing the money from a sale or not, I have no idea.

To many, he is now an evil Yankee owner who only wants to steal from our club. Let’s just conveniently forget the fact that ploughed in more money than sense for six years !

As for thinking of us as European Cup and title winners, that was a long time ago. We haven’t won anything meaningful (I discount the Intertoto Cup) since 1996.

A two thirds full ground would suggest we a probably are a midtable top flight club at best.

Doesn’t stop me supporting them or hoping for the best each season.

          • So, it’s official, Lambert says “Benteke is going nowhere”. Whose got egg on their face now. Media and most fans on this blog.

          • “As for thinking of us as European Cup and title winners”-
Not quite, just trying to emphasize the point of how times have changed (post Bosman) and not for the better. How back in the day a team could be built and allowed to develop without being raped at the fist signs of success.
Hope all you want, nothing is ever going to happen while your brightest talents are constantly going through the exit door.

          • Well, streetlyvillan it must be true then!

  6. There are some on here who just struggle to lift themselves to say anything positive about the Villa at all Streetly.

When Benteke signed, he was another unknown crap signing showing that we have no ambition and are penny pinching.

Shortly after signing, Benteke claims that Arsenal are his favourite club, and he’d love to play for them one day like his heroes Bergkamp and Henry did. Cue outrage and cries to sell him and get rid at the first opportunity.

Winter transfer window slams shut, papers have to print something, Benteke linked with all and sundry and Villa are a feeder club looking to move players on for profit at any given opportunity.

This kind of crap just goes on and on and on…

Just hope and pray for something at the Emirates tomorrow.

  7. Lambert said: “As far as I’m concerned the guy’s here and he isn’t going anywhere until I say so – that’s the bottom line.”

    Over to you Randy.

    • Agree, something from the Emirates would be welcome and is possible. And the more positive statements coming out of the club the better, whether it is who will be shipped out and who is not going anywhere. It’s called PR, more please.
