Lambert says he’s glad of the break. I say what a load of rubbish.

There’s very little news coming out today; certainly nothing of interest anyway.
The most copied story I’ve seen is Paul Lambert’s quote that the break will be good for us.
As above, I say what a load of rubbish.

I’ve never subscribed to the view that says a bunch of lads at the peak of fitness can’t manage at most two games in a week, especially with the way that they’re conditioned these days.

How many games have Bradford played this season, for example?
I’ll bet it’s more than us, but we all know what happened when it mattered.

I’d even go so far as to say footballers at the top levels these days are treated like a load of pouffes and they need less of the mental rubbish and more of playing the game.

When we last won the league, we used 14 players all season. Yes, I know, that was when we still had whippets and raced pigeons, but even then, 14 was probably less than the average at the time. So surely that proves that you don’t need all this squad rotation stuff?

I’m now off to go and watch a CL game that I really don’t care about in the slightest, but I thought I’d stick this one up for a bit of debate beforehand.

And yes, before you start slating me for being too old fashioned, it is slightly tongue-in-cheek.

I do think that now we’ve actually won a bloody game, the last thing we want is a break, imo.

  1. Im actually glad of the break on this occasion, although Im not normally. We have a couple of injuries/sickness problems in the squad and we need everyone at their peak of Fitness. The Arse also have a CL fixture next week against Bayern Munich which may help us a little… Hope so!

  2. And my ticker needs a break!

    • lmao i agree my ticker needs a break aswell ~ been a stressful season so far and more twists 2 come , hopefully positives ones 2come

  3. I think he might mean a break from the intense presure he and the team have been on for the last few months, hopefully not being in bottom three will make the break bearable so give him a break ( no pun intended) lol

  4. Can;t see why can remember the time players went on international duty but league games still went ahead as clubs always players to take the place of those whom were away.It just shows football is not a sport for men but a sport for a bunch of pansies.

  5. Remember, Arsenal are playing two games in between including a CL game, the break will benefit us i think, we should in theory have much fresher legs.

    • Yes, I suspect from the comment that this might have been what Lambert was getting at. Let’s hope it works to our advantage in practice; getting anything from the Arsenal game would be a huge bonus, and part of getting a little run together prior to the key “relegation” battles to come.

  6. Me personally im glad,i can now reduce the old stress levels.i hope they take advantage of this break to work on their set pieces.

  7. Not sure if i misread it but i was under the impression the statement was made because we had a virus going through the club and a couple of injuries. looks like a desperate story made up by a desperate press. the transfer window has closed we won at the weekend the journalists have sweet fuck all to write about so they hang on every word.

Nobody can deny a break is good for everyone no matter what job you do

  8. They also get to train and get better at football and stuff like that.

I actually don’t think what he said had anything to do with tiredness/getting a rest.

  9. The break will be good because as I hear it ev1 else is going away while we are at bodymore.Plus it will give the squad a chance to be at full strength. If all goes to plan extra training, injuries and bugs dealt with we should be shit hot going onto arsenal Up the Villa.

  10. Use the break to find a new manager and to sack that inept clown.he could go back to scotland and manage, anyone can look good there.

  11. I’ve got this feeling we will be ok.Keep clean sheets and we will survive.Scoring is not a problem now.Sylla, delph,Westwood look good at the min lets hope Karim can find some form.Keep Baker at LB I can hear walcotts legs now hear it as Baker goes in “CRUNCH”.If we bully arse n all we will win keep a clean sheet.Training all this week can only help us.UTV

    • A win at the Arse would be the stuff dreams are made of, JD. Our season began last Sunday; let’s dream!

      • I think we will put up a good fight we won at Anfield we can win at the emirates.4-2-3-1 all the way.Hard tackling, crunchers all the way.UTV

    • Baker is the only one for left back at present I agree JD. How Lambert can’t see what most of us see from our off pitch positions is beyond me. At least he has left Ireland out, dropped Bannan and realised that Weimann is class. He even brought on Bent against Wham. I liked the look of Dawkins. He will make a great impact player in the last quarter.

  12. My team would be

    ————–Guzan———-
    Lowton vlaar. Clark. Baker

    —-Westwood —-sylla——-

    Nzogbia.–Benteke–Dawkins
    ————-wieman———–

  13. At least our goal difference cant get any worse for another week!!

    • The only reason we have a two week break is because we lost to millwall. Still now that we have it, let’s hope it’s used for good, I.e. defending set pieces and in general. Don’t see there’s much wrong with us attacking. We have goals in us, we just have to stop the other team scoring (so many). Like your selections Thomas. UTV

      • Should spend the next week learning how to defend corners. Watched Real Madrid defending corners v utd I think theyv been to the Ron vlaar school of how not to defend properly!! Nearly as bad as us at def corners. Utd will hammer them at OT.

  14. Ooha im strongly getting the impression your not a fan of vlaar’s,i could be mistaken though.

    • What makes u think that giddy lol. I’m not a fan of any of our defenders tbf except Guzan and baker who I think could make it. Having said that Clarke was outstanding last week and he’s got a chance if he plays like that every week.

  15. Thats something were definately lacking ooha is consistency, hopefully with the remaining fixtures we could hopefully mustre some solid performances defensivly.i think we could get something out of the next 2 fixtures,it wont be easy but i feet quite possible mate.

  16. I agree with Thomas’s formation and squad. if we play the way we played the past 2 games we can stay up

  17. Its a tough one up front because it would be good to see Weimann playing more centrally but at the same time, Nzog is playing his best football for us in that free role. For now, I think I would keep Weimann out on the right with Gabby/Dawkins on the left.
