A Win but how poor is the league

Delighted at the win today but it should not hide what we saw.

For those of you who depend on stats so much then West Ham beat us in all of them and yet we won, what does that say. It probably says that all that matters is how may you score and concede eh ?

At least this time we came out the better end of it but we have played much better in many other games and West Ham were arguably the worse team (apart from Villa) we have seen at home this season,

The win means of course we are safer and we have a chance at staying in the Premier league but I ask why would we bother ?

After the game I watched most of the Man U/Everton and like the game today it just showed just how dreadful this league now is. This is the worse Man U team for 20 years and yet so damn easy for them against what is supposed to be one of the better Everton teams.

In any other season this Villa team of ours would be well on the way to relegation the fact we are not stranded at the bottom says it all really. We could survive this season but there is little prospect of us getting much better as Benteke the one real shining light of this season will be gone.

I have wondered why Premier league attendances across the board have not really gone down by now. As witnessed today by ours maybe Villa fans are the first to waken to see the shite in front of them and paying top prices for it ?

  1. I wonder why you bother writing articles, we win your negative we lose your negative. I thought defensively we were great and I think it was really important to show we can hang onto results in the final minutes if weimann has scored early on would have been much more comfortable I think a battling performance was much more important than outplaying a team then losing. Today the team deserve credit not negativity

  2. Stats mean fuck all at the end of the day,i think that’s how fat sams looking at the game judging by his post match comments.it’s about what team puts the fucking ball in the net the most preferably not your own .this is for you fat sam we did that 3 fucking times to your 0 that makes us the clear winners you fat twat.

  3. I too am delighted by the win.

    But you’re right Ian.
    The Prem is truly shocking.

  4. Another pointless negative post from ianrobo the whole league is getting a mention now at least it’s not just villa you slate week in week out, last time I’m ever going to read or comment again on your posts, totally agree with you Peter and giddy, they played well today passed the ball, closed down quick, defended ALL set plays against a side with a huge ariel threat and conceeded a very unfortunate goal and HELD ON for the win which is exactly what you wanted from them last weekend, never ever any please in your posts

  5. The only stat that was imp today or any game for that matter was we scored more than the opposition. As for rest of league agree man city have spent 100s of millions in last few years and utd are still a class above them. I thought everton may have got a draw to be fair but like most teams that go to OT they bottked it. Maybe it’s time for the mooted super league let utd barca etc piss of and please their global hangers on and then we can have a competitive league that teams like us can actually win. The prem league isn’t the best league but its the best marketed league. But it’s all pointless now no other team but sky 4 get look in thanks Murdoch. So glad I cancelled sky subscription.

  6. Manchester City say it all for me, without a fit Toure and Kompany they are very mediocre and they cost a bomb to put together. The only reason man Utd are doing so well is because of Van Persie he would be the first name on anyones team if they could pick him fantastic striker the Arsenal fans must be so gutted to see him in that shirt.

  7. A win, but how poor are your articles ?

  8. Europol should have a look at the Man U v Everton game, how did Heitinga fail to clear Van Persie’s shot?? Very iffy.

  9. Eamon Dunphy on talk sport is saying how poor the EPL and football in general is, he goes as far as to say the game is dying, how the public is moving away from it and it’s over paid so called super stars and how these players are simply aren’t as good as in yesteryear. He puts this down to the lack of practice kids have today, how years ago kids would learn their skills playing 60 hours a week, something kids just don’t do today. Also he says the game as moved away from skilful to more athletic type players and this has had an adverse effect on the game as a spectacle.

Perhaps it’s my age but I don’t think he’s to far wrong.

    • I completely agree with all of that.

As a result the national team has been suffering for years, it’s a problem at grass roots level.

The Premier League is now all about athleticism and less about skill, and as the money has taken over, so has the unpredictability of the game.

      Sad state of affairs.

      • Cheers Guest, it’s something I’ve been arguing with the young uns in the pub for a while, they’re of “you’ve never had it so good” school and I’ve been arguing the over emphasis on size athleticism, power and pace is detrimental.
Just glad Mr Dunphy (an ex pro) feels the same.

        • I remember when you allowed to tackle in a game of football.

The irony of the modern game, the players are more athletic and stronger than ever in a game where body contact is being removed.

          • I know what you mean but stonger !! They go down to easily faking injury. Was it last season or earlier when Gareth Bale was looking for his hair grip that fell out on the pitch.

  10. Yes it is a poor league BUT if we stay up and sell Benteke and Bent for combined 30M.. also get Petrov Bent Dunne Hutton of the wage bill…

Then why do you presume we will be poor next season..!!????
