McLeish leaves Forrest & Sylla

I didn’t want to make two separate articles but I’ve been asked to talk about Alex McLeish, so lets do it.

Today McLeish has left Forrest after mutual contest and, well I guess it relates to Aston Villa in some way. McLeish’s career is maybe not going exactly as planned after Birmingham Cities relegation.

McLeish said: “I am extremely saddened to be leaving after such a short period but even so it has been a privilege to be manager of such a fantastic football club and I want to thank the players, staff and fans for their support and wish Nottingham Forest the best of fortunes ahead.

“Both parties entered into the relationship in good faith, however, there was a difference in the understanding of the development strategy of the football club and it was felt by both parties that we should part company”.

Moving on to more Aston Villa news, manager Paul Lambert believes that Sylla will be a vital acquisition to our team. He is a defensive midfielder and I do hope that he will stop the major goal leakage.

“I think he’s got loads of energy, which you need, and I thought he did really fine.

“That’s the aim for him, to try and make his mark here, and we want him to get to learn the language as well.

He did ok against Everton, got an interception or two but overall I think we should’ve brought in a more experienced player. Sissoko was on our radar, but lets focus with what we got. Against West Ham I expect him to start, West Ham have got a strong physical presence and we’ll need our big players to be fired up because West Ham will try to bully us.

Earlier today I asked a question on Twitter about what they thought of Sylla, the main topic of conversation was experience in the League. And a person by the name of Whitehouse Address said “Don’t think he’s “too young” perhaps inexperienced at this level more the concern!” Which is a fair point. But after the weekend will we know whether or not Sylla will be a good addition. European media believe that we have picked up a bargain at 2 million, we’ll see about that.

  1. Mccleish is in da past but hav to comment about their different strategy plans lol obviously he spewed da same shit to their owner about playing attractive football which is all lies he is a hoofball manager and that’s it! Can’t believe some villa fans would hav him instead of Lambert we had the same problems wit mccleish but villa memorys are short we conceded shit loads of corners and didn’t score any this year we hav 1 at least! Seriously can’t figure out why we are so bad at them could blame inexperience this year but last year we had dunne nd Collins warnock nd Hutton all exp defenders so its a strange 1, ar for sylla maybe not the exp player we wanted but he is a big strong midfielder we seriously needed so lets support him and show him he is welcome, and if he plays bad in a game or 2 don’t write him off like villa fans always do (benteke, westwood, lowton) all slagged and called Shite after 1 or 2 bad games but all ar prob our best players now! And btw sylla cost us less than 1.5 mill not 2 mill. West ham is a must win cause next 2 games are prob never gonna wins UTV

  2. I think it’s a bit unrealistic to judge a player on 1-2 games. Many people on here were calling Westwood the worst player we’d signed following his debut, then calling him the best midfielder, with the most composure on the ball they’d seen at the club since Gareth Barry.

Now what do we think of him?

Stan caused great divides for a long time, now most would bring him back in a heartbeat.

Fans opinion on players fluctuate with the wind unfortunately.

I just think after the weekend we’ll have a ‘better’ idea on the type of player he is – but we won’t know whether he is a good addition until some time into next season.

  3. If i was a forest fan all your xmas’s have come at once,he’s done the club a huge favour.as for sylla can’t comment because i have’nt seen him play,i think give the chap a chance to prove himself & maybe then be judgemental.

  4. Ps forest are run by some well dodgy people,it makes lerner look like an angel.

  5. Why on earth would we want to discuss McLeish? That Wanker is part of the reason we are in the mess we are in. Good riddance I say.

    • He was taken on to half the wage bill and keep us in the Premier league, he achieved both. OK It wasn’t pretty but credit where its due. Want to blame someone blame RL he’s the one who insists on pay being halved yet again and little cash for transfers etc, I kind of feel a bit sorry for Mcleish he gets a lot of stick for things thy aren’t his fault. And I don’t care where he was employed at before hand.

      • I agree.
AM did what he was asked to do by the owner.
People assumed he had similar money as MON or even that available under Doug. He did not.
The tribal hatred of another club rarely helps your own team. It really does help Chairman manipulate the fans though.
AM and the Villa fans were manipulated.
You can love your own club without hating another.
        I wish AM well.
But whatever people think, it is time to let go of hate.
Villa are still not even in the same division as Birmingham City. Why even think about them any more than Ipswich ?
AM kept Villa in the top league -admittedly it was dull to watch – and won silver trophies at previous clubs.
He was strung a line at Forest by owners who clearly have not got the monies they advertised.
He might make a decent manager of Everton which put up with functional football provided they stay up, or Cardiff who just want to get up. Maybe even Albion or Bolton. Villa fans demand flair, adventure, excitement except in a crisis relegation battle. AM without big money to spend had no chance of entertaining the fans.

        • I’m sure Everton fans would like AM – not. Not a patch on David Moyers, not fit to clean his boots. And this is not a consequence of tribal hatred.

    • Amazingly! I’m starting to think mcginger done a half decent job with the shower of shit he had

  6. I hope Sylla turns out to be a bit more solid in front of the defence than what’s been served up lately.Plus defenders need to aggressively attack the ball and make sure they get it.UTV

    • …and get the ball out of danger! One of our problems at Everton was our inability to properly clear the ball. SO many miscues and underhit clearances that Everton picked up and came straight back at us.

      • Rather than just clear the ball aimlessly which mostly results in the opposition getting the ball back and another attacking play by them, we should be gaining possession and playing the ball out of defence. That’s the way to defend a lead.

        • Agree absolutely; it’s been Villa’s weakness for a few seasons, regardless of whether we had the ‘old timers’ [Dunne & Co] or this term’s ‘kids’. The inability to play the ball out of defence, and of the forwards to retain possession has been awful to watch – isn’t it really down to the absence of a proper midfield though?

          • Very true, when we are not under pressure we should be playing the ball out. Collins and Dunne were terrible at playing aimless long balls. Clark seems to have picked that up from them! Vlaar is a little better.

  7. I have high hopes for Sylla. From the few minutes I’ve seen of him, he looked quicker than KEA, smarter than Delph, and more physical than Bannan. Will he single handedly save us? No, but he looked good this past weekend and for his first Prem. game ever he can only get better. I hope he starts this weekend.

  8. hope lambert does a mutual

  9. I dont think he cost £2m this is a figure made up by the press like the 3100k a week Samba is on,
Mcleish i dont give a toss about we are in a relegation fight his waste on certain players is a part of that problem fans should not forget it. Given 5 years £60k a week says it all about Mcleish for me, along with signing a wing back and putting him in a very defensive role and a lucrative contract (Hutton ex Rangers) says it all and fans should take off the rose tinted glasses, and remeber last year was awful

    • *£100k

    • Your right last year was truly awful, but was it any worse than this year?

      • But has Lambert been working within a very tight budget for wages, i have said before i believe his signings must between them collect £110k a week, this is the same as Ireland and Dunne together, we are where we are because of Randy donbt fool for the blame the manager trick.

        • As my previous post says… ‘Want to blame someone blame RL he’s the one who insists on pay being halved yet again and little cash for transfers etc’

    • Spot on Morgan. Some on hear appear to have forgot (or are suffering from convenient amnesia) his 4-5-1 park the bus up negative hoofball bullshit. AMC was, is and forever will be a complete bag of shite.

      • I did say in my previous post it wasn’t pretty but he did what he was taken on to do. I don’t have ‘convenient amnesia’ as you put it but give credit where its due no matter what you personally think of the bloke. Maybe you have ‘convenient hatred’ for whatever reason (maybe the blues connection) and can’t see past that ?

        • I dont like his style of football and i never will and mates who support the Blues and the Villa feel the same way. I personally believe McLeish to be a very good Championship manager. In my mind he is in the same league as Mick McCarthy and Neil Warnock, this is not a bad thing, in fact it is something to be proud of, none of them are Premier league managers though

        • I never hated the bloke because of where he came from, well I never hated the bloke, hated his style of defensive hoofball, his deluded media savvy bullshit and the fact he bored the fucking pants of me for 38 games last season.
Even the noses hated his style of Hoofball- constantly playing 4-5-1 at home to the point where they sang songs about playing 4-4-2. You ask them if they thought he was a good manager and around 90% well say fucking terrible and that is on the back of them winning their first ever major trophy, so what’s their excuse?

      • Misconceptions about Mcleish being a good manager or hard done by.

He had to halve the wage budget by signing given (£60k) Hutton (£40k) nzogbia (£50k), robbie Keane (expensive loan deal), jenas expensive loan deal shall I go on ? Yeh sounds like he was really cutting back on the wages? The football was terrible and deteriorated as the season went on.

Target just to stay up. Go back and read what he states are his season aims at the beginning of the season, he’s talking about Europe, and fatty Faulkner was. Either they lied (no sympathy) or he did so badly, he got new objectives.

Finally the bit about villa on corners, apparently we are good at repelling them percentage wise. It’s just that we give away too many in total so the percentage holds sway over a bigger number of corners so we concede more. We basically need to be tougher to win corners against.

  10. Morgan Villa, last year was awful yes, but for me this year as surpassed that.
4 wins, only 23 goals scored & nearly 50 conceded. Heaviest defeat in the clubs history and humiliating defeats in both cups.
    This season is truly woeful.

    • it is a part of the same decline which involves MON, Randy lerner, GH, AM, PL and PF, but those two signings were ridiculous

      • The end of the GH season we started to look pretty good and I think given time and money he would have turned us around but then he had to go and nearly die again, so selfish. (sarcasm)

        • We did not have money the heart attack was used conveniently to get rid of GH, if it was for health reasons then the board would have got the money from insurers, we have been getting fed a lot of bullshit by the board

          • I agree they spout a lot of BS but do you honestly think they would use a chronic illness to get rid of him? I think there is some kind of employment law about that, or are you suggesting he didn’t actually suffer another heart attack…

          • No he did have the heart attack but the heart failure he had is not stressed related so it would not have affected his job. The heart attack was a convenient get out for the club who were having issues with a certain amount of players who were running the team. GH was going to buy in a load of French players some of which we see on display at the bar codes but Randy was hell bent on wage decrease. GH was going that summer no matter what

  11. Dont think anyone really bothers about Mcleish, a bad time in Villa history and should have been a lesson learned for our club, my thoughts and mind is on this weekend results, I just hope that Westham’s away form stays rotten and we get a 3 point win, may I add a good luck to Coventry tonight as a football club that’s seen even worse times than Villa, all the best Cov.

  12. Mcleish must be a fookin genius, he managed to land a fantastic job managing villa when his only premiership credentials for this were getting blues relegated, TWICE! not once but TWICE!! ffs! along with time in the SPL as rangers manager, christ even i could manage rangers, as in ‘which of my multi capped international squad shall i field against Inverness?’ after his debacle at blues and villa playing, according to both sets of fans the worst most boring football they’ve ever seen and doing, lets face it, shite at both clubs he then(after a nice holiday paid for by villa)goes on to land another great job at forest and surprise surprise does shite again! no doubt going on to another pay day and the rest of the season on holiday. genius!
the forest board treatment of him is however ridiculous, 40 days is no time to get a team playing together but their decision to employ him in the 1st place was equally ridiculous as was learners. how does he do it?
as for sylla i’ve no idea about this guy yet, we wanted experience we didnt get it, learner/lambert have gambled with villa again, will it pay off? all we can do is give the new guys our support and cross our fingers and close our eyes for the rest of the season.
‘wake me up when september ends’

  13. Midlands today wm no fucking mention of Mclueless unless it was when i went for a wizz, the blokes become a fucking nonentity.

  14. Ardent they showed him on the day of being unveiled at forest.they show the goals of east mid teams.why not that prick parting company?not that i give a shite.

  15. Oohah this is just for you:- Aston Villa are among the best when it comes to the amount of corners they have repelled.

    link posted below.

  16. Very interesting reading bws, were better at dealing with corners than the mighty shitty.well mate that has put a smile on my face.cheers for the info.

    • So the fat one – PF – has been concentrating on making Villa Park carbon neutral (OS news). He claims we are going to use less energy, produce less greenhouse gases, all by purchasing carbon credits from other parts of the world. What planet is he on? Less energy? Probably achieved by lower attendances. Less greenhouse gases, well I suppose we never hear any hot air from him or Lerner. What an absolute tosser he is, that he thinks that with this period of crisis we want to hear what he’ s doing for the fucking environment. Twat.
