Aston Villa – The abandoned child

Now the dust has settled on transfers we can see we have 14 games left to save ourselves and get probably 15 points.

Tomorrow we will either see the non entity signings make a wonderful difference and Lambert hailed a magician or of course we will see the opposite, no middle ground. Because when you look at the fixtures and see of those 14 games left, half are against teams significantly higher than us, then you get real worried for a club only won 4 in 22.

Many a word has been written about the current situation. I have asked the question myself and no one can give me an answer and what is Randy’s plan ?

We know a large part of it is to cut wages, fine, but at the cost of relegation that seems nonsensical. Has Randy run out of his own personal wealth (down to the last hundred million or so ??) and can not afford to even give us one good signing to try and survive ?

Or is the truth that he has totally abandoned the club. He has lost interest, he has seen money disappear (as it does in football) and he has had enough of the toy ? If so we should be BLOODY TOLD by the man himself that he has so at least we understand what is going on.

It does feel like the club has been left to float, no direction and no vision.

I have seen an email that Paul Faulkner sent to three Corporate ticket holders where he was saying who we would try and buy. I really have to ask myself what the hell is Faulkner doing interfering like that for ? It is no place of a non footballing CEO to go around behind the manager’s back and telling what are fans (but with cash) what the club is trying to do and the rest of us left alone.

IS it best to have an owner like Ellis who interfered in everything possible or someone like Randy who for me does not care anymore ?

Is the feeling of abandonment why only one person bothered to go Trevor Fisher’s meeting and why the Supporters Trust is totally silent ?

Is it why it seems the fans have given up ?

  1. I don’t think that Randy has abandoned the club, but could you argue that he may be looking at this season as pouring more good money after bad ?

We did spend £20 odd million in the Summer, it’s become an easy mantra to blame it all on Randy.

Randy good, O’Neill good, Randy good, O’Neill bad, Randy good, Houllier bad, Randy bad, McLeish bad, Randy bad, Lambert good (for many), now bad.

He has spent a huge amount on the club infrastructure, image, team, marketing, etc, etc and he has now got a large volume of fans calling him a prat.

Many seem ready to ridicule, blame, demand he goes.

He obviously thinks that we have enough to stay up, and when you look at the squad player by player, we bloody well should ! Stay up ?!?

£250m+ over six years, and a hope that we might stay up ?

Don’t know what he’s thinking, but in his shoes, would you have spent ANOTHER £25m or so ?

I really do fear for us now, and am dreading a trip to Goodison with several Toffees tomorrow. Funnily enough, they think that we’ve got a brilliant Chairman compared to Kenwright who is pretty much a steward of the clubs self-generated coffers.

How many other teams have spent over quarter of a billion in the last few seasons ?

The Mancs, Chelsea. Any others ? Apart from us ?

We’re looking doomed, all we can do is hope but hasn’t got us far since 15th December. Another Merseyside dream away day ?

All we can do is hope…

    • 40mill a year from sky = 240mill

Just from sky alone he is 10mill down. Then add transfers, corporate, advertising, ticket sales, merchandise and shirt sponsor.
Well you get the jist, randy is a very rich man and his wealth has risen, much of that probably from avfc

    • He has and as someone who reads your posts i love your optimism, but this is it, it will not change my friend, accept the fact that the dream has ended. Just dig; You say you work in finance well i am sure you are the man that can prove everything right or wrong. Vaze my friend the baton is yours but be meticulous

  2. Some still love Randy, some now despise him, but the simple fact is, he’s a now a distant figure at the club, and seems to be an owner in denial.

I’m surprised that he’s not bothered to come over and sort this mess out, yes, it is a mess, it defies logic that he wants to see Villa relegated, but I have heard it said, he’d be willing to see that happen to show us fans who’s club it is, his, not ours.

As for all the money spent on players, that stinks of bad management from the very top, who in their right mind would let that much be spent, without any sort of professional advice. If he came into this thinking a football club was not a money pit, he was either very stupid, or naive.

Whatever way we want to look at it, or put our own spin on things, it comes down to Randy looking at the books, and cutting back on everything financial at the club, and to hell with the consequences, after all, the General can always bring the Marines in to sort us Brits out.

Now “I’ll get over it” and “just support” like a lemming running to the edge of the EPL cliff.

  3. Guess what Lambert said he’d “settle for playing poorly and winning”

Wow, Captain Obvious at the helm of this sinking ship.

    • what he means is long ball to Beneteke most games and I said that 3/4 games agai, that is the strength up front and have Weimann buzzing around. However Everton is the toughest place around to try that

    • The ship has sank and it sank way before lambert arrived

      • hence I will not say sack him even though he is desperate.

Lets have a game of what if

What if Martinez had not turned us down before Mcleish ?

Would it have been any different ?

        • I honestly dont know, but with the players we had any manager would have struggled they were bought by MON to play the MON way. Martinez is a good manager but could he cut it anywhere else but Wigan.

        • Its a good post below but i have only just noticed it and i am really pissed. Fuck em Robo, I love Villa, what have they done to it. Doug Ellis how could you sell to these cowboys

        • Martinez has proven year after year that he can keep a team up with no finance and play decent football. Being the shittiest little team means they usually get the worst breaks and decisions. Look at Swansea, they guy knows how to leave a legacy at a club.

          • and yet despite Whelan’s blackmail he could not leave a small club like them for us nor Liverpool. Does he believe he can only go so far as in small clubs expectation levels are so much lower ?

  4. Oh, just remembered he sold our best players at a mighty profit, so he’s neither stupid or naive, maybe a bit unambitious though.

  5. it is inexplicable when its quite obvious what we needed, 2 or 3 loanees would have helped pay some big wages for a few months and if it didnt work out then so be it. it does seem to me that learner may have given up on the whole thing and lost interest as he did with his NFL team. i understand he has put in lots of cash to villa and has had his fingers burnt and cant hope to compete against chelski and citys billionares but on a business stand point alone it would have been a small gamble to get in a couple of much needed experience on loan considering the possible returns re staying in the prem so it does seem to me like he’s given up.
im happy to see us try and do something different and not be full of money grabbing selfish players who dont give a crap about the club, their team mates or the fans but there has to be a balance especially in the face of what looks like relegation certanty.
q.p.r paying samba 100 grand a week is just mental! but us signing a young french lad is equally stupid given our situation(no disrespect to our new signings).
    baffled :(
by the way i’ve just had to turn odemwingey away from my front door as for some reason he seems to think he’s got the contract for doin my windows, had to tell the lad to go talk to his agent. ;)

  6. “RL is loosing interest in AV” is a very interesting point. Obviously, he is influenced by General Krulak. If you know about warfare strategist you know that at the start they are fully focused of an objective, they are enthusastic, no doubt about failure, full of support and full of motivation for all involved.
But when it appears the objective can´t be realized they loose interest, they think that their soldiers are too weak, they don´t deserve it, can´t win the fight for them and so on.
Maybe he is thinking he tried everything but they whole set-up (fans included) is not up to his quality and therefore not able to reach the final breakthrough.
That would be strange for my feeling, but could be an explanation.

  7. The fact we are amongst the highest spenders over the last few years, just makes our current situation all the more sad.
Even when we splash the cash,we still can t get it right.
Greedy players, rubbish managers all taking us to the cleaners.

That, I think is one of the problems, the players these days, sign up to some fat, juicy contract, where s the incentive for them to perform.
They re going to get their 70….80k a week regardless, its all bullshit and I m seriously getting sick of it.

    • Ted, thats right. You and me are missing the good old days. But situation described from you is a problem for all clubs. Why are we in the shit so much?

      • I don t know mate,it has to be ,we have an owner who is either disinterested or simply aint got a clue what he s doin…and lets face it, how would he know what he s doin.
All I know is, its all gettin a bit farcical for me,its a joke and I m simply beginning to lose interest.
