Winter Transfer Market Dead, little change

The transfer window closes this week and so it has been a very quiet one and surprisingly so given the money next season.

If we look at our rivals for relegation then you have a few like us

Southampton – sacked manager no signings
Reading – some signings at the lower level
QPR – typical Redknapp a shit or bust tactic
Newcastle – Obviously got an agent in the French market raking it in with a manager who can barely speak English never mind French
Us – well we know … No activity
Norwich – No activity
Fulham – No activity
Wigan – Usual Wigan cheap signings see if Martinez’s ability to keep picking stays with him

In fact overall there has been little movement. If we want to look at say MON then he has brought two foreign signings this window, how strange eh ? But I count Sunderland out of it anyway.

So I dont think that we are that much weaker when compared to other teams since the window opened but we were weak anyway. I do expect some activity at Villa PArk in the next few days and I certainly expect the others to move. It will be an interesting week especially with a massive match to come.

A match that is yet again another ‘must win’ game, something we have done poorly on.

  1. I am not looking forward to Tuesday night , if I’m totally honest I can only see 1 outcome , the crowd & atmosphere will quickly turn ugly & nasty just as it did v Bolton at home last season on AMC ! To be fare who can blame them .
Gob smacked that Lerner is prepared to gamble on our top flight status when the stakes are so high !

  2. “Newcastle – Obviously got an agent in the French market raking it in with a manager who can barely speak English never mind French”

    Lol

I’m not convinced we’ll do any business of note Ian.
And if we do, why wasn’t it done a couple of weeks back, when there was more at stake than there is now? (cups etc).

When you look at the other teams, it makes you realise that we wouldn’t need to spend a fortune. Just a couple of really decent players could give us an edge on the others.

Along with others, I’m totally baffled as to what’s gone on, or rather, not gone on in this window.

    • I think we will still get a player in but hardly a top one obviously ….

looking at those around no one apart from Newcastle have done real business even QPR have only brought the one player so far.

As tyou say we don;t need a lot because the PL is so poor one quality player in the middle can make all the difference.

  3. I see PL is 1/2 favourite to get the bullet now.
    Even after what’s been said?

I wonder if they know something we don’t?

  4. Come on randy with hutton and warnock going surely we can afford 2 decent players in. Come on to fuck!

  5. Just seen an article about Curtis Davies.
He’d do a job for us wouldn’t he?
Should be cheap and certainly within our pay bracket.
He was unlucky with us imo and I liked how he played even with his dodgy shoulder at the time.

  6. As stated the bottom of the Prem is rubbish..

Which makes the even more IMPORTANT we don’t go down.. It’s incomprehensible!!!

In the summer we could get 30M for Bent and Benteke if we stay up.. Add to that Dunne Warnock Petrov out of contract and if we can shift Hutton Ireland Given we would be saving a staggering 350K a week min in wages plus have 30M kitty min to play with.. Out of the seven players we would lose only Benteke has been used properly this season so not like a raft of first teamers are gone..

With bargains in Europe and a few in UK we could really re build..

So going down is not an opinion!!

    • Relegation seems to be an option the club seem to want to explore. I do believe the club planned to rebuild in the summer. Problem is. I don’t think they planned to do it in the championship, and I don’t think lambert is the right guy to do it. Can’t wait to get rid of all of those players though (not stan or benteke obviously). I’m fed up of loathing more players than I like in the villa team.

  7. Warnock and hutton going could see at least 2 singings one a loan and one permanent. Wages freed up are about £70k, these could be the first moves that cause the domino effect that kick starts the transfer window.

I think all clubs wait until the last minute because clubs and players want too much at the start of the window. towards the end resolves and budgets get tested.

  8. Lets hope NUFC new signings dont acclimatise straight away – Villa need to give them a real physical welcome to the prem. My worry is that NUFC have not won away this season and by the law of averages…Hopefully CNZ will want to one over against his old club and against his French compatriots – poor choice if he does not get picked.
QPR and Norwich losing in FA cup should hopefully give the team a lift in that its not just us.
With Hutton and Warnock seemingly gone I’m a little more optimistic that some deals will be done but only if Lambert is still at the club. This is why it is imperative that we get a least a point. If Lambert goes then Board will be reluctant to get players in unless somehow a new mgr is appointed before Thursday and he has assessed the squad requirements.

  9. I can’t understand WHY bent isn’t playing, if PL doesn’t like him, he should get rid… That’d mean we could get an experienced cm/dm/cb–ANYONE! Can’t understand why we’re letting guys like warnock and hutton go, when they are out of contract at the end of the season, whats THE POINT?! Richard Dunnes apparently fit for Newcastle and could get a recalling to first team-HOORAH!

  10. One problem with new signings as it stands at the minute. Who the hell of any note would want to come and play for the Villa. The two most important ingredients needed are missing…..Money and the boards ambition.
Wouldn’t be surprised one bit if they are preparing for next year and championship football.

  11. Incorrect, Southampton beat Liverpool to a defender earlier in the window.

If you think we’re signing anyone, your kidding yourself. Only if randy has bothered to take some time out of his busy schedule to bother finding out, how much shit were in, and then we might get a few shit panic buys.

I’m past the idea of signings now, as anything we but in now, clearly won’t have been well thought out, and are we gonna get anyone decent with relegation fodder form? No I don’t think so.

  12. The only other ‘big club’ down there is Newcastle and they are spending like crazy to make sure they dont go down. Reading, Norwich, etc, dont have the kind of financial clout that we do (or are supposed to have). On paper, Newcastle now have a much better team. The only advantage we have is that we play them so quickly, their players will barely know each others names…
