Got to say even though the Millwall fans are ‘interesting’ and especially the one on the 23:30 train back from Euston, it was a place you had to go.
Despite what you may hear about it it is actually quite safe and made easier by being kept in for 40 minutes after the game so meant a run to Euston !!
However as for the game that was nothing less than I expected. We saw a Villa team never give up but the quality simply is not there. Yes we were beaten but I did see signs of a revival and including a good 20 minute spell where we kept the ball well but no creativity. The problems do seem to stem from simple defending a crossed ball, their first goal was a perfect example. Shittu (fatter than most of the fans) won an header against Vlaar, next corner what happens ?? Lichaj picks him up, what the hell is that ? The sooner Dunne even on one leg is back the better. I am afraid to say that Vlaar looks very poor.
The one real positive was the form of Weimann, he is a shining light amongst all the dross. Can anyone explain why he was taken off and not the hopeless Bent who does nothing (and yes he scored !!). Weimann for me simply has to start every game now alongside Benteke. Watch him and he anticipates the best of our team and knows where to go. He actually has pace and that is vital in a team lacking it.
Of course the fans are angry but last night they started to turn on the team (Bannan and Bennett took awful stick) and Lambert did at the end. That is only to be expected and for me that was the watershed moment. The team now either rolls up and dies or Lambert plays anyone with 100% for the club and never plays the like of Bent again.
Lambert will not go and if he did who the hell would want the job and be better ?
So lets get behind the team on Tuesday (damn can not go !!) because we really have no alternative do we ?
