I’ve been really busy over the last couple of weeks and I never got a chance to really reflect on the Villa news and recent results.
Southampton beating Villa
This was such a bad result, never had I been so upset. But it wasn’t the result that really bugged me, it was the fact that I’ve yet again lost confidence in our team. Whenever I watch a match, I always put on my Villa shirt and wrap a scarf around my neck. I used to feel proud and anxious for the game, knowing that we may in fact get a result. In fact I was contemplating trying out a new tradition that would see me keep my beard as long as we keep winning. Had I pre sued that, I’d have to shave almost every day! But in all honesty, going into every game I’ve got little confidence in my team and I just know that we’ll lose. It’s a terrible feeling and I felt this last year as well. If fairly confident if we, fans have little confidence in our team; I’m sure that the players have little confidence in the manager.
Transfer Window:
What in the world is going on? No transfers! We are past mid-January and our rivals are adding but were not! Remy is an excellent addition for QPR, Reading have signed a couple of players and we’re just sitting here doing nothing. The links haven’t been too exciting if I’m honest, Sissoko wasn’t too bad but the most interesting rumour might’ve been the fact that John Carew and Martin Larusen want to start playing for us again.
Di Matteo:
This is relatively new, there are rumours floating around that Villa representatives are talking to Matteo and are asking him if he want’s to save us. I’ve been backing Lambert for the last couple of months but I think he’s gone insane; playing younger and younger squads by the week! Once Bent is fit you have to play him. I don’t want to be watching Championship football next year! But in all seriousness, Lambert needs to be put under pressure. Di Matteo has one of the best CV’s in football management right now and if he’s interested; I’d put him in charge.
Relegation Zone:
We’re in the relegation zone now, last weekend the results went against us but had we picked up a couple of results earlier. We would’ve been fine. I think we are in serious danger and for a team like Aston Villa this is absolutely unacceptable. Something has to be done, whether this is investment or a change of manager I can’t stand another defeat and if we do get relegated how can we allow West Brom to be the only Midland team in the Premier League
I dont think it’s rocket science we must buy,if not then no more excuses.teams around us seem to be dealing with the problem & all fatty faulkner’s doing is twidling his dumpy thumbs.
I think someone’s taken Randy’s instruction that wages must be cut and worked out a plan where we hire a manager used to dealing with cheap up and coming players from lower leagues or abroad and making them into a PL team. We lost our defence in the summer and weren’t scoring enough goals so the £20million budget went on defence, strikers and a couple of midfielders. With Dunne due back from injury and enough experienced players, along with an academy churning out players, I think the club was looking for a manager like Lambert, able to work with lower league players and make a team capable of back to back promotions and a successful year in the PL. I’m not so sure they were even trying for more experienced PL managers and would any of them have wanted to come, with no money, unhappy fans and a not particularly good squad to work with. The plan (I am assuming for the sake of a laugh that there was one) hasn’t worked out so well, with Dunne and Vlaar being injured and the senior players not pulling their fingers out. It turns out of our three best players Guzan and Wiemann were two hardly played and mostly overlooked last season, only coming into the team as reserves. Benteke was an excellent buy, Lowton and Westwood likely to grow into good players. The rest of the squad is frankly not good enough and Lambert has a rabbit in headlights look about him. I supported him and the plan from the start, and I’d still like to see the academy invested in and developed, cherry picking good players from other academies and lower leagues here and abroad. I now think Lambert is out of his depth and it’s only when enough players decide to have a good day that we go out fighting and win (think Chelsea away last season), the rest of the time they just look like headless chickens. The aforementioned Guzan, Wiemann and Benteke look like the only ones who care, Wiemann needs to be made captain. It’s not necessarily that the other players aren’t trying, they’re just not good enough (Delph, Bannan, Albrighton, N’Zogbia), not getting enough time in to get match fit (Bent, Agbonlahor) or, well, I haven’t a clue what’s up with Ireland. Sometimes he plays blinding football, recently he’s just not been playing well. Wiemann has great movement about him and tells people what to do and scores and sets up goals. He looks exasperated half the time but still goes all out and still cares (look at his yellow card in the last match). If we don’t build the team up with some decent players around Wiemann and Benteke (or Bent, he might be a one-trick pony but if he can stay fit then we should adapt the team when necessary around him) then we risk losing them at the end of the season even if we do stay up. I went to the Southampton match with a feeling of despair and despite the team having a damn good go in the second half it was as if most of them hadn’t bothered to turn up for the first half. I can’t help but think everything points to the manager and he just can’t handle it.
Perfectly summarised season so far, and I’d wager that’s how the majority of fans feel. Weimann is this clubs future. There’s a lot of players in our squad, that will not be part of that future.
Well said foxy, i feel the same to mate dont know how much i can take i love villa hate seeing the team like this but lambert needs to go di matteo in
Di Matteo won’t solve the problem. He couldn’t stop West Brom sliding towards relegation and he won’t stop us. Granted lambert cannot survive another heavy defeat, but even a change of manager will still leave us with a crap squad and an uninterested owner.
Doesn’t matter what angle you look at it, we are doomed.
Nigel Adkins sacked at Southampton.
Lambert still at Villa.
Paul Lambert is a complete joke, he has brought shame onto this football club with the results this season.
Get rid of him, lets at least give ourselves a chance of staying in this division.
Lambert OUT.
Right- So what you’re saying is Lambert created this mess himself? Nevermind the past three seasons of the clubs trimming and turnover of the squad, or the players inability to perform under 5 different managers. It just doesn’t make sense to me, it would be like saying the financial crisis is due just one bad day in the stock market.
Keep your beard untill we win.
