Ian5991 has submitted this article about the recent reject, Stephen Warnock
We all know that we are in desperate need of both experience and players to fill the massive gaps in the team, most notably the DM and LB positions, as you can tell from the above, why not try Warnock?
Now, I don’t have a clue what Paul Lamberts problem with him is, he seemed to get a few games in pre season and I thought did ok, then all of a sudden, he gets dropped and then has to train with the kids. I know something went round back in August time that he was spotted at a Kasabian gig or something like that, when the team were playing. But if he wasn’t picked for that game, why shouldn’t he go enjoy himself? Surely that can’t be the reason for his exclusion.
Now, seeing the huge holes we have, especially at LB, why not bring him back in, he needs to put himself in the shop window again, and we need experience, and someone for that position as let’s face it, Bennett is utter rubbish, Lichaj doesn’t seem right and Stevens only has 4 games under his belt and is too vulnerable, to me, that makes two and two.
However, if Warnock has been cast out to dry by Lambert, for no reason, he may turn round and say f**k you Lambert, why should I come to the rescue now and play for you? Would you risk it Lambert has upset him for no reason, I don’t actually think he will come back to the fold; I think Lambert is far too stubborn, but I would give him a chance, can’t do any worse.
At the end of the day though, Aston Villa pay his wages and if I refused to do my job, I’d be sacked with no redundancy pay at all, so that should be the case and get him off the books.
He could also do the role as DM, he used to look useful there for Blackburn I seem to remember. Give him a chance. Definitely can’t do any worse than Delph
Failing that, news this morning that John Arne Riise is free to leave, I’d has him in a flash. Experienced defender, in a position we need, even until the end of the season as a short-term fix.
Not Hutton though, I think Lowton is doing an ok job, better than Hutton could do, but doesn’t anyone know why Lambert doesn’t like him either, apart from being awful?
I would bring him back….but not at left back….stick him in center midfield… tough tackler, experience, communication levels are good, has played there before…
Agreed. He didn’t do too badly for us at the end ifs at season and even popped up with a goal if I recall.
warnock is crap how any fan can say bring him back did you watch him last season makes hutton look tidy
I’d have him back as a defensive midfielder, although there’s nothing to say he hasn’t been tried there in training and it didn’t work. Didn’t he score last season when Voldemort tried him in midfield? I know a lot of people think he’s utter crap and shouldn’t wear a Villa shirt again, was he really that bad, or did the fact the defence was under constant pressure last season (as it is this) just mean he had to make more tackles and make more mistakes? Yeah, he made mistakes, but he busted his balls when he did play. I worry he might be too slow as a LB.
Yup.
I’ve never had an issue with him!
Bloody hell.. goes to show how desperate we are that we are even starting to think Warnock is decent..
He is shite.. We threw him and Hutton in the bin.. leave them there.. he won’t be the reason we survive!
Yeah he is that bad imo. Plus after being left to rot by Lambert do you really think he will be striving to play well and work hard for a relegation fight… no chance.
Im not saying he will key to survival, just saying he gives some experience we need and cant be any worse than our current LB or DM.
However, i agree with Adam that given how we have left him to dry, he robably wont give a shit anyway and not bother.
He is bad, but when you look at the alternatives he should be playing. Joe Bennett is one of the worst players I have ever seen and Stevens should have stayed in the Irish league as he is clearly nowhere near PL level and never will be. Lichaj is another dreadful player to come out the academy, So to conclude, yes Warnock is a poor player but poor is better that the utter shite that bennett, stevens and lichaj serve up
The answer to the question is Warnock really that bad is quite simply yes!! He is useless makes mistakes all over the place, can’t tackle, can’t defend, little pace, no effort, no desire, piss poor positioning and shit in the air. Other than that he’s great!!!
Worth a punt, as although I dont particularly think hes good enough, he is better than who we are playing at the moment!
We’ve been linked to Derek Boateng today, 29 yr old defensive mid. Fulham tracking him as well.. probably just more made up bullshit but would probably be cheaper than sissoko so maybe realistic. Carew also saying he would play for free.
He’s at least an option at LB, as it’s plainly obvious that opposition teams see the position as vulnerable to say the least.
I personally don’t think he could be any worse and while I don’t think he’s necessarily that good, I think he could do a job.
If he makes his usual bad judgements and gives away free kicks, so what?
Better that than conceding nearly every time the ball reaches that area, imo.
But yeah, I said a while back I think he’d be ok in the middle, protecting the defence.
He’s definitely got a calmer head than the kids, which is what’s needed, imo.
As for his attitude, everyone seems to say he’s a model pro, which is the bit I don’t understand.
I for one, never had a problem with last seasons defence.
They and they alone kept us in the EPL.
Lamberts biggest mistake,he put a wrecking ball through the defence….it should have been the mid field.
Thats where he should have spent his money.
Ted you are right the defence Mclesh had last season was much much better than the one we have now, do you remember the days when people were complaining about the number of 0-0 and low scoring games, Lambert has wrecked the defence and done nothing to sort out the creation in midfield which was our problem last season.I cant believe more and more people are saying if Mclesh had stayed we would be a better team in a better position and im starting to think they are right. Quite how we have found a worse manager than the one we had last season is unbelivable.
What happened to the defence last season though? Dunne was injured, so we had Vlaar in and Clark and Baker to choose from. Has Dunne taken longer than thought to get back fit, and with injuries to Vlaar and Baker we’ve had a decimated central defence? Did Collins and Cuellar want to stay or did their contracts run down and they chose to leave, Collins back to where he came from and Cuellar to MON? It wasn’t a bad plan to try to replace Hutton and Warnock but to freeze them out completely seems a little naive now, not that I’d want Hutton back at all.
cb, thats down to internal information given no doubt by Faulkner, Lerner would not know who is who in the managerial stakes would he ? and would they be good or not for the Villa, they looked for on the cheap people (typical Yanks). as for Warnock well he was bad at left back for us , but did see him play midfield and did get his tackles in. if hes any good, dont know, we are at that stage now that anyone will do.
I always rated him personally, he made mistakes but it always seemed to me he was working too hard to compensate for his team mates failings… always put in a shift.
If you saw his performance at Forest in pre season then it would be quite clear why he has not been involved since.
I’d put him straight in the team. We need his experience and I don’t think he’s too bad
Same as many, you judge on a pre season friendly, as opposed to over the longer term in the actual games that matter?
