Sissoko & Reo-Coker Linked

We’re starting to get more and more realistic links now, Toulouse midfielder Sissoko is linked with Villa. The report says that he is available for as little as 3 million because of his contract expiring at the end of the season. This is the player that would sit right in front of the defence and replace the role that Petrov played at the club prior to his illness. Some other reports claim that we have beaten Sunderland to his signature, not sure if that’s true but we are being strongly linked with this player.

There have also been links and rumours going around that Villa may offer a short deal to former midfielder Nigel Reo-Coker. He recently terminated his contract at Ispwich.

Two good midfielders and I’d take them both. Sissoko is a pretty good player and he was linked with us before when Houllier was in charge. But he is 22 years old and that’s why I think we should also bring in Reo-Coker. He has experience and has played for our team before. Wouldn’t be a bad addition to the team.

  1. I just really fear for us, I don’t think we can attract decent players anymore which is why it is so quiet on the transfer scene, hope I’m wrong tho

    • Steve when ur offeing 30-40K wages it’s hardly surprising..

I think Lerner will have no choice but to change tact…

    • Simply Steve, to attract decent players when you are a team that looks set for relegation you need big money to pay the wages. As we don’t do that, then nobody is interested in a team that looks doomed to fall down the divisions.

      • It’s not just the wages, we don’t want to put any initial money up to buy players – I know higher priced players demand higher salaries but we have nothing it seems. It’s difficult to stay positive and but fingers crossed we do actually get people in.

  2. I hope your right mate otherwise I can’t see anything other than relegation

  3. Might b bullshit but bent on his way to Newcastle with Guthrie and Simpson coming here also Scott Sinclair on loan b a start anyway

  4. Ireland,N Zbogwiya,Delph,Bannon,Albrighton,KEM…..All shite….BIG shite.
Always liked NRC and what he did for us.I d have him in front of any of the afore mentioned shite any day.
Just need another 3 or 4 mf s to go with him.
    O and a couple of full backs and a centre back…O and a …
How about a new manager, someone who knows what he s doin.

  5. While he s still available, sack Lambert and get Di Matteo.

  6. Getting back to NRC.
I believe our slow steady decline began when he was dropped from the team.
If you look at the stats,we were last doing well when NRC was an established member of the side.
Then something happened,I think he had a row with MON and he dropped him,its been all down hill from there.
Thats when the rot set in and the team started to struggle….Houlier wouldn t play him,McLeish wouldn t give him a contract.
Then our other mf guns left…Which leads us to now and shit creek.

    • Did that also coincide around the time we sold Milner? He was the biggest loss in my eyes and he worked his sense off, footballing brain and galvanised players around him.
Similar to NRC only a million times better and football. I’d still take NRC to sit in front of the back for as I agree he was a loss to us

      • No,it was way before we lost Milner.I think in the 2nd half of MON s last season,
As soon as he was out of the team we started to struggle.
He was a monster in the middle of the park, relentless running, tackling, breaking up the oppositions attacks and getting us going forward.
And most of all keeping the pressure on and forcing he other side into mistakes.
I know he couldn t do much with the ball but he was really good at his job…….winning the ball.

        • Very good point Ted. He was a bit harder than the rest of the MF and did his job well in ball winning and then simply passing to one of the creative MFs. He was no Merson but closer to a Keane…

          • He was a bit too powerfull for his own good,Jeff.
He used to make me laugh,he d steam into some great positions but unfortunately didn t have the skills to go with his power and enthusiasm.
But a great asset to the team.

  7. I think this wage thing is a smokescreen from the club, when Mcleish was in charge I remember him saying Randy wants an average wage of about 40k this would run through a squad of 25 players, because randy was also obsessed with fifa fairplay.

McLeish also said we will pay big wages if we feel the player is worth it, now i think this would be done but in a way to keep the wage at an average of 40k per person or at roughly £1m a week. I also think the club have lost a lot of money on players, Ashley Young was on his lat year in his contract and would of gone for a lot more. We also have a number of players who were just on a salary with an appearance bonus thrown in, look at the long list of players we had there wages and how much we actually got for them.

I think the club will spend big on wages as long as the budget does not exceed the £1m mark per week, I also think most players will be bought young as they will sell on for more if we do sell them, rather than seeing them wind down there contracts. We do need to have replacements ready a bit like fergie at Man utd who every 5 years refreshes the team.

Now this is all well and good, but this transition has left us near the bottom of the Prem and with one of the weakest squads in the league, hopefully this is the window where we buy another young up and coming star who will keep us going until we find the next one, as it looks like this is how we will be ran from now on, whether we like it or not

  8. Nice to wake up in the morning and we are linked to no one again…!!

But then again if your offering minimum wage to someone who’s worth is £10 an hour.. You can’t expect anyone to put pen to paper..

    Disgraceful stuff.

  9. Id take coker as DM for now and have westwood as the play maker, better than bannan and Delph any day. also not a bad shout about Tekkers in Midfield, stick gabby and weimann up top, recall the fonz maybe? not doing too bad at blackpool, point to prove maybe? somethings got to change anyway.. sick of going on here and seeing the same articles because we cant be arsed to bid for anyone.

  10. I think if Reo Coker is the answer then we are DOWN..

Look at the facts.. saints have lost 2 in 12.. QPR have just kept three clean sheets in a row.. two against teams that smashed 12 past us! Wigan are used to a battle every season and they always get out of it.. While we haven’t scored in 4 of our last 5 games and shipping in goals for fun.. right now we are the form team for relegation..

Reo Coker will bring NOTHING to enable us to stay up.. that’s like raising the white flag.. we need better.. nothing else will do!!

  11. Trouble is,even if we got NRC back,he s going to need players with skill and brains to knock it off to…..a Milner,a Young,a Downing.
No good playing it to the clowns we ve got now, they dont know what to do with it.
One of our biggest problems at the moment,we dont have mf s capable of playing in the oppositions half….Well, they re capable of nothing really. Not one of them is EPL quality.

  12. True,NRC and even Sissoko on thier own ,is not going to be enough.
We need an entire new mid field….players with strength, speed, skill, brains and height..
Bannon and Westwood especially are just too small for this league.
Thats another of our problems, too many small players.
We need height to have us winning balls in both attack and defence, thats why we re getting slaughtered at set pieces.

  13. How far is it from Newcastle to Villa Park only Guthrie and Simpson have not got here yet. and its been two days.
