Shay Given has been in a recent interview and admitted that if it weren’t for the Cup success he would’ve been leaving in January. Shay Given has lost his first team spot to Brad Guzan and is upset but admits that the cup games are helping heal the pain.
“It’s difficult when you don’t play,” said Given. “It is the manager who picks the team and for me, when I get the chance, it’s important I remind the manager that there is still plenty of life left in me and still plenty of years left ahead of me.
“I’m not used to this position but these cup games have been important. Had we been knocked out in the first round of the League Cup, I might not have been so happy. Sometimes you sulk about it and have bad days like all people do.
“I can’t say I’m quite happy to sit on the bench because I’m not. I want to play football, but it’s the manager’s choice and I’ve just got to try and impress him every time I get a chance.
“But Wembley is touching distance away so hopefully there are quite a few games coming up and hopefully I’ll play my part.”
I still like Given he is a great keeper, but boy has Guzan been improving. Guzan has been in great form and unfortunately there is little reason to drop Guzan especially after his Premier League games. If we reach Wembley and that’s a massive IF; I wonder if Lambert will drop Given for Guzan for the final or will Given retain his spot for his competition?
I think that if Guzan plays that is going to be it for Given and he’ll be out the door during the summer transfer window. He’ll definitely stay this season but I hope that Lambert doesn’t drop Given I’m still a major fan of his.
I think Guzan will be in for the Bradford return leg. There’s too much riding on it. By which I mean we’ll be a complete and utter laughing stock if we don’t win by three goals, let alone get beaten on the day.
I really haven’t rated Given this season. He always looks like a rabbit in headlights in goal and his communication with the defense (especially compared to the very vocal Guzan) is non-existant.
if he does not want to fight for his place then tell the overpaid prick to fuck off
He’s had a reality check the blokes down the pecking order now & it dont feel nice.if he wants to fuck off so be it,guzan in goal for 2nd leg thats def.
We need two centerbacks of good experience from a decent level and a ball winning creative midfielder(s) who know how to protect the back line when not in possession ….. forget the cup now, Chelsea would just embarrass us at Wembley in front of the world. We are coming into four Premier League games that will keep us up or relegate us. The defence has had no pressure as such on them up to now and they have collapsed during the last 5 games, now there will be pressure on those young shoulders they will buckle further make no mistake. If we don’t get the right players in this month we are in trouble, the teams around us are far more experienced as units on the field …… for the first time I’m very worried. We could have van Persie, Tevez, Suarez up front and it wouldn’t matter a jot with the goals being conceded. The defending last night and through xmas has been Blue Square conference / Sunday league level at best, only Lowton has been OK but he is on his own with no protection from the midfield or centre backs. Bannan and Delph are very poor, way out of their depth and any good passages of play are irrelevant to their overall poor performances in the team during this season. We can’t keep a shape to our play and their is absolutely no leadership on the field of play. Our attacking play is promising for most part and Bradford’s keeper was almost super human last night but Premier League teams shouldn’t concede the type of goals we did under any circumstances. I had no doubt they would score and I would have took a 2-1 defeat to be honest giving it was a cup tie and very open, but to concede from 3 set plays against League 2 opposition is not acceptable. The next couple of weeks is where Lambert puts it right or relegates us. UTV
Taxi for given.
Never been a fan of Given after reading an interview with him whilst at Citeh. He was so fucking smug…then Hart took his place and wiped the grin off his face LOL!
