Transfer Speculation: Inter’s Philippe Coutinho linked

Wow, now this is more like it. Aston Villa and Southampton are being linked with Inter’s young Brazilian midfielder Philippe Coutinho. The midfielder has found himself out of favour and has even been loaned out to Espanyol. Both teams need a new creative midfielder and Coutinho offer’s just that.

At Espanyol he has scored 5 goals in 16 games but at Inter has only made 3 appearances this season. He is highly-rated but then again Inter would sell him if a decent bid cam in. Some reports say that he would cost 10 million euros but Inter would let him go.

This is a very good player and I’m happy that we are linked with him, had we been in a better League position I would say bid on him, bid on him, bid on him! But we need experience and who knows if we have a couple of millions lying around as a Manager I would be the first one to bid for him. Either way this is just some more transfer news and definitely worth the read.

  1. He is a very good player and Inter are desperately trying to reduce their mammoth wage bill so he may be available. To us or Saints though I’d be surprised in the position we are in. Lambert’s plan was to be around 12th or 10th to attract players this month and it hasn’t quite worked out although we are only a few points away in real terms. Fingers crossed but I’d give it 2/5. UTV

  2. Good part of the rumour is it’s been around for a few days and won’t go away, unlike most. Very good player, Lambert did claim we can still attract stars so it’s possible we can beat Southampton to him.

  3. It would be around £8 million in our money, would think thats the kind if fee Lambert could pay? whats his age,?

  4. He would fit into a 4-2-3-1 well in one of the 3 attacking midfield positions.Yoan Gouffran can play in one of those positions to.UTV

  5. Good link, would like us to get him in but only if we get an experienced DM too.

  6. I hope none of you were the ones crying about needing experience and Lambert being a dick for buying young players ;)

For what it’s worth I don’t think it’s experience that is the problem with our team, it’s the lack of any quality.

  7. Our last few midfield acquisitions have,to put it mildly, been a total disaster.
Expensive flops on big wages, that are leeching us to death…….and sending us to the bottom with their inept performances.
We need at least 3 new players, just hope we can trust Lambo with our precious finances.
Please no more headless chooks….5 is enough.

    • Coutinho is a talent, I’m sure he isn’t a flop he is a recognised midfielder and I think that this would be a massive coup. He’ll be worth triple what we payed for in 3-5 years

  8. Forget about it. I very much doubt any UK club bidding or even making inquiries about a player who doesn’t meet any of the criteria to get a work-permit. Coutinho does not have an EU-passport. He has not been living in Italy long enough to apply for an Italian passport. His wife is Brazilian so no chance of gaining EU-citizenship that way either. He has not played enough ‘A’ matches (1 cap) for Brazil in the last two years. And as far as I know he does not have European relatives. As far as I’m concerned an agent or journalist has planted this fake rumor. For what reason I don’t know but I’m sure it’s a good one…

  9. IF we are signing Yoan Gouffran then i very much doubt we will be in for Coutinho too..

The kid is certainly talented but if we only have around 10M to spend then makes no sense at all.. simply because other areas are of more importance.. we need a DM.. maybe Placios and a CB.. get them and Coutinho then fantastic but otherwise it’s risky to bring in a kid from abroad and expect him to hit the ground running…!

    • Nobody who knows anything actually said we had 10million to spend…

      • Rolta we can only speculate mate..no one knows the facts.. so using that assumption im saying he wouldn’t be on our radar..

IF we have 30M he may well be :-)

        • Lerner spent £30m in one go for Houllier, gave McFuknut plenty and Lambert spent £27m on young hopefuls and Vlaar in the summe, so I think we can get in who we want if it fits the wage structure and criteria of young(ish) and hungry players. I reckon we will get in some decent additions. UTV

          • I think he gave Houllier 24M ( 18M bent and 6M Makoun ).. we will never pay 24M for Bent..and that was offset by the Young sale.. McClown was given the Downing money and PL spent 21M not 27M.. to re build an entire squad..

I get your point thou but i doubt we have lots to spend in Jan..

          • Young cost us £10.8m + add ons in the first place, Downing £12.8m too … they weren’t given us were they ?? Bent was £18m plus add ons and if we sold him we would take a major hit so I don’t see where you are coming from ? Lerner will spend if it is justified, going to improve the project and doesn’t cause any more financial damage to the club.

          • I hope so milan

          • Astonmilan the point i am making that in the last few windows we have normally spent what we recouped.. the point regarding fees for Downing and Young were at a time when Lerner was giving Oneil the ammunition to buy any players and give them good wages..

That ethos has changed and since Oneil left we have sent within limits.. normally offsetting against sales.. plus you were about 10M off in your figures :-)

We may well spend but i think more chance of it being in summer when all the high earners will most likely be gone..

      • I think it’s 10 million and any additional fund’s that Lambert manages

      • Well said Rolta

    • I haven’t heard about Gouffran anywhere! Where is this that he’s coming in?

  10. I hate to say this but it might be that a few defeats in January – with wins for relegation rivals – would panic Lerner into spending much bigger, whereas a few wins for Villa – and poor results for those near the drop zone- might make him decide to sit tight until at least the summer.
If QPR, Southampton, Sunderland, Newcastle, Fulham, Norwich spend big on dazzling names, Lerner might give it a go. But it may be a question of waiting to see what they do.
I think if there was a plan with Lerner-Lambert, that it may now be a casualty of war and that it is now the usual impulse, panic, fretting on results, looking at the table at 5pm on Saturdays, etc
The flair, style, wallet to bring in Bent at £18 million two years ago was to me the right message. For a while lots of players/pundits looked at Villa as a Tottenham peer.
If Villa do not buy credible names, Lerner may find that proven players or players with promise will look at Stoke or Swansea as a better bet for a Premier career than Villa.
I really wish Pulis was Villa manager.
He can get lower league and groom them, but clearly is comfortable buying the biggest proven names (such as Crouch) his club can afford.
Even if Owen proves a mistake, this is a manager who would love Bent, Lampard, Anelka, Drogba or better in his team. I still think that Lambert would say NO, NO, NO and NO.
Glen Hoddle took over Chelsea in 11th place and left them in 11th place PLUS Rudd Gullit. The single signing of Rudd Guillit attracted in his mates Vialli, Zola, Di Matteo, Frank Le Boeuf, and ever upwards to Russian oligarch being enticed in to bankroll every trophy Villa fans would cherish.

    • That’s what worries me. If we beat Southampton 3.0 on sat then Lerner will spend fuck all. But like u say if we lose next couple of games then he will be panicked into spending more

  11. Just another talksport rumour, a terrible terrible source to get these rumours from as 85 percent of what they say is utter bullshit. Why don’t we just get loads of players on loan? Wed only be paying a quarter of most of their wages, and when we survive we can use the tv money to spend on established players. just a thought…

  12. we wont get him because the saints are willing to match there value were not nor the wages it would take to get him here so we will have to settle for the likes of the leicester players wes morgan and the midfielder cant say his name so more championship players well at least will be ready for the championship when we get relageted
