Petrov May Feature in Final

Stiliyan Petrov may in fact lead Aston Villa out for the League Cup final if they beat Bradford City in the semi-final Tuesday. Petrov’s overall health has massively improved over the last couple of months and he has now entered remission. Also, Petrov has begun attending more matches at Villa Park. Shay Given gave an interview and talked a little bit about Petrov and whether or not he can feature in the final.

”It would be up to the manager [Paul Lambert] who leads us out and it would also depend on Stan”, Given said. “He is still going through some difficult treatments. One day he is up, one day he is down. But the lads would love it if he could and it would be great for Stan.”
”It was fantastic to see Stan and it gave everyone a huge lift,” Given said. “He is a real fighter and a great guy. He is still a joker and still has a laugh with the lads. It’s great that he has still got his sense of humour. We know we are in a relegation battle in the league but to see Stan fighting is really inspirational. It puts everything in perspective.
So will he be back? Will it be a positive thing? Would it help the team win?
I don’t think he will come back this quickly but the most important thing is his health and then whether or not he can feature for Villa again. It would be great to see him in the Villa shirt again because I think that his experience and his leadership are what’s missing in our midfield; but I think that the League Cup maybe too soon.

  1. This would be an outstanding and well deserved tribute. Get well soon Stan!

  2. He won’t play again, they mean for him to lead the team onto the pitch for the game Not to be playing. His villa career is over :(

  3. I don’t like the fact we are talking about Wembley. Lets get there first.

  4. Great for Stan and the club could do with more players of his quality & experience and may i say loyalty at the club, and hope that in the future that the club show their appretcation to one of our greats by keeping him at the club.

  5. best wishes to Him for a full recovery from all bradford city fans!!

  6. Great to hear he’s in remission,it would be a great gesture by the club for a great man.

  7. Thats the character you want in that midfield again a man like Stan.get well mate, I wonder if at anytime Lambert has asked for his input and advise, just a thought to know your still part of Villa.

  8. Fucking great news.
We need his composure more than ever if the chap’s up to it!

  9. They do mean to lead the team out onto the Wembley pitch as a token gesture.Personally I don’t think Stillz will ever play again but it would be a massive inspiration to the team for him to lead em out at Wembley. Were the famous Aston Villa and were going to Wemberlee Wemberleeee Wemberleee

  10. Dean Saunders named new Wolverhampton boss…

  11. It could mean he is in the starting 11 and subbed after 5mins so he can collect a winners medal.

  12. Jinsky sounds like you weren’t a big fan of stans, everyone to their own.

  13. He’s still our club captain. He may not be well enough to play but our club is a better one if it feels his presence. Firstly lets hope stan wins his fight against illness, but it would be a wonderful sight if stan was able to take a place in the dug out at villa park let alone wembley.

    Get well soon skip. ..

  14. He means lead them out……in a time gesture style surely? Do you really think he will be playing centre mid? As much as I would love that, I hope we find a place for him within the club but can see him ever playing for Villa again an I am alarmed that you think it possible he would be playin on the cup final?

  15. Surely nobody thinks Stan could come in and do a job for us after what he has been through?? The guy will never play again unfortunately but to have him walk the lads out ‘IF’ we get to the final would im sure make everyone involved in football very proud, Villa fan or not.

  16. If we do get to Wembley it would be great for Stan just to lead the team out having been through what he has been through over the last 6 months. Regardless of the result on the day, that would be a very emotional moment for all associated with AVFC. Get well soon Stan(19)

  17. Dont jump the gun !
