The third round of the FA Cup and Aston Villa are facing Ispwich at home. Aston Villa encountered a terrible festive season, gaining 1 point from a possible 12, while conceding a total of 17 goals in a span of 4 games and only scoring 2. Ispwich on the other hand, are improving under Mick McCarthy. They’ve recently got out of the relegation zone and may fancy having a go at Villa who are short of confidence.
Ispwich may feature new loan signing Kisnorbo from Leeds. Nigel Reo-Coker returns to his former club, Aston Villa who he played for from 2007-2011
Aston Villa Team News:
Darren Bent and Gabriel Agbonlahor resumed training on Friday and may be available for this match. N’Zogbia will be assessed ahead of the match but has also resumed training. Ashley Westwood is out with an ankle injury that was sustained from the 2-2 draw at Swansea. Baker, Vlaar and Dunne remain out.
Ispwich Team News:
Striker DJ Campbell returns from his loan at QPR, while loanees Stephen Henderson and Bradley Orr have been denied permission to play by their parent clubs.
Aston Villa Facts:
Since reaching the semi-finals in 2010, the Midland club have exited at a progressively earlier stage; fifth round in 2011 and fourth round last season.
This is the 55th meeting and their first in a decade. Aston Villa have won 22 of the previous 54, and Ipswich 19.
Ispwich Facts:
Ipswich are one of seven Championship clubs trying to eliminate Premier League opposition in the third round, but the Suffolk side have fallen at the first hurdle in five of the last eight years; including the most recent two.
This is the sixth successive away tie for the Tractor Boys; four of the previous five were lost
Likely-Lineups:
Given
Lowton-Clark-Herd-Bennett
Albrighton-Bannan-Delph-Holman
Benteke-Weimann
Chopra-Murphy D
Edwards-Reo-Coker-N’Daw-Martin
Hewitt-Chambers-Smith-Cresswell

Predictions:
Aston Villa 3-1 Ispwich
Aston Villa need a major confidence boost and this is just the game. Ispwich need to focus on their Championship survival so I don’t think that the FA Cup is a priority to McCarthy
You can also predict the score, all you have to do is comment below what you think the outcome of the match will be and you’ll participate in the prediction table! 4 points for the correct score and 1 point for the correct result. Here is the top 5:

Those days of gone bws there greedy sods now, nice thought though mate.
Tomorrows fans Giddy, what’s the average age of footy fans 42/3? Us fat balding lot ain’t getting any younger and where’s that leave footballs fan base in 20-25 years time? They need start encouraging the kids down mate, it’s all very short sighted.
Brilliant result. Could have been 4 or 5 in the second half. I know they are bottom of the Championship, but we played well. Bodes well for CC SF coming up and I really think we will come through against Southampton, WBA…
UTV
At last bent and nzogbia play. And nzogbia was the most threatening player on the pitch he held the ball and went forward with it and set up bents goal. He probably done more in the first 20 mins than bannan and ireland have done all season
Problem now is will Lerner spend if he thinks that zog and bent will keep us up
Hey hey lets hope we keep it up a gd cup run could save us keep the faith hey langford?
Too true mate.. I never lose the faith otherwise I would have given up about 53 years ago lol!
U dont sound that old mate!
Hey terry j ever heard of sing when your wining? And you ohh ahh were are you mate?
Yes we’re making the transition to top team for sure
Don;t worry am here and still think staying in the Prem-League more important than the cup.
No Terry told ya mate, cup fever mate, nothing like it.
Agreed mate but next Sat back down to earth.
It’s quite simple villa 1996,they seem to prosper only when we lose & are piss poor negativity runs through their veins mate its terminal.utv.
I think it’s not something right round the corner, but i like your optimism lucy.
Ian Robo…Garethvilla…ooha…..WHERE THE FUCK ARE YOU?
Shock mate, all them words are haunting them..
Guys, guys, guys cool yr jets! Enjoy the win but everyone went overboard like this after the Pool win.
If Zog performed like this every week wed be in a much better place but hes too inconsistent. Roll on the new signings.
I’m here mate. Pleased we won glad to see bent stick it up lamberts arse. We are mad if if we sell him now.
Ooha… I said Bent would play today and PL imo played the right players to give him support. I also said that if he played today he will probably stay until at least the summer. Hopefully Bent has had a change of attitude, couple that with a good supply line and a few additions to the squad we could be in for a decent second half to the season… Onwards, upwards…..and Wembley….reasons to be cheerful!
Iv said for ages we would be bonkers to sell bent at least till the summer he does exactly what it says in the tin he scored goals and lots if them. We are not in a position that we can afford to offload him. We need him more than he needs us. Decent result today but a lot of the defensive failings were still there to see and beat in mind they had 6 fringe players playing for them!!!
Oohah Mate well said a few on here though won;t like it.
I’m sure they won’t mate lol
Sounds like your up for it langford, could be waiting a while mate.
Giddy… Ian Robo will probably surface sometime 2moro asking why are we so happy when all we beat was a championship team…..try asking wolves, wigan, fulham, newcastle if they would like to change places with us!
The main thing today was to win and not get beat by a poor championship team.
In our attack we looked a lot better and as ive mentioned a thousand times before play nzogbia as hes a threat. And to those idiots again today who keep sayin bents lazy you obviously are clueless about football.
But sadly our defence is still weak and simple through balls we are all over the place. Clarke needs to be stripped of the captaincy and give it guzan as hes no leader what so ever and is the root cause to alot of our goals let in.
Lets hope we beat bradford tuesday and please dont drop nzogbia as i believe they will be shit scared of him.
A win’s a win and we’re through to the next round.
I had to work again today, so never heard a peep, the result apart.
How did we play?
Anyone care to write a report that I can stick up?
Transition on track
I would not be to optomistic about on the back of this win can soon be derailed when the real job at hand is putting points on the board in the league.
Same as before TJ….. Go and collect chassis numbers on spaghetti junction you negative prick!
It’s nice to hear cnz played well hopefully more to come.
I would love to be proven wrong by our players especially CNZ and Ireland they are both very talented but have failed so far at Villa
I agree about ireland but nzogbia came on against norwich and made a massive change and we went on to win 4-1.
Since then he hasnt played till now and he had a decent game. Its not that he dont try its that he hasnt been played and god only knows why
Wolves boss sacked no surprise there then.
All three teams relegated have sacked a manager this season, maybe its the way they are running them, Wolves fans have been taken for a ride since they sacked MM
Mad Mick should have stayed, for me a very good league one manager would have got them promoted then get rid then as clearly not a PL manager at all.
And we complain about player disloyalty! Nice idea robo…
rubbish first half, dire
Second half better but I could see behind the goal in the North Stand just how poor in defence we are. How we allowed average forwards at first division level to create huge gaps by simple movements.
How their sub in the last ten mins went between Clark and Baker with so little work.
Forget everything else if Lambert can not organise the defence and evidence suggests he can not then we will struggle as long as he here.
Good to actually see BEnt and Nzog be bothered, midfield is still awful and Weimann showed he has to start every game for me.
Frankly I dont care for the Bradford game we will go through over two legs easy peasey.. However what I do care for is Southampton game, Vlaar’s calf is turning into a saga and I envisage noone in at all before then.
Could see one hell of an hell scoring game next week.
My thoughts Ian. Our defence hasn’t been right for years which is y I wanted Steve Clarke in as he is a top fm defensive coach. I’m a firm believer in building from the back. Lets face it all our defenders are a pile of shite maybe except baker. I include vlaar in this and no il get slagged for it but he was nothing special when he did play his positioning was appalling, he is as slow as fuck and always has a mistake in him. We desperately need a new centre half and defendive midfielder. And also a top defensive coach to work with them on training ground as lambert obviously isn’t up to it.
Simply put we Know Lambert can not do it we seen it at all his clubs. We are not Man U who can win games 3-2 all the time and will never be. To be a success iin a league where the defences are as bad as this you need to be slightly better than abysmal to be OK.
With a god damn awful midfield then I think we will have little choice but be dead open, may work some games, esp cups but in the league, hmmmm
True mate if we had utds forward line then fair enough it wouldn’t matter about defence. Bug they can score virtually at will where we struggle just to score one goal
Of course and I just do not believe Lambert can and is capable of changing it that much.
Anyone else seen this the villa time bomb!! http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/aston-villa-face-17m-wage-1519589?
Its not that there bothered its the fact they played.
But once again villa fans were complaining about bent in the first half for not running into the channels ( how thick ). Bents in the team to score not pose by the corner flag. At half time my bro came up to talk and i loudly explained about those fans and in the second half they changed there tune as i heard from the same person “benteke wouldnt of scored that-well done bent”.
And as i said earlier nzogbia done more in 20 mins than bannan and ireland have done all season
not get me started about Bannan and Ireland
spot on there billy, i remember not so long ago those prices for cup games, a fiver for kids is great most working class kids can’t afford to go these days if the prices today were the same when i was a kid(relatively of course) theres no way my folks could’ve paid for me to go regular and along with that its good PR, its good for attendance and its good for the club, simples!
anyways we won! when we went one down i feared the worst but the team kept their heads up which was no mean feat given our form. ontop of that zog not only played but appeared to play well!
now im not getting carried away but our jan fixture list is good, we can do well this month and put december behind us.
UTV!
I thought Weimanns goal was brilliant .
sorry peeps i was coming in on the end of bws comment on previous page. im a bit pissed to be fair
celebrating
Will be interesting to see what happens in the next few games. If we stick to more of a 4-4-2 formation (which I hop to God we do), then the wide positions are really up for grabs. Nzogbia is the only talented wide player we have, so if he can perform, the position is his! However, he has wasted every opportunity he has had here, so we’ll see. Maybe Holman can play on the right just for his work rate. Our central midfield is still very weak and needs bolstering asap.
Been saying play 442 for a while but got slated for it. Lets keep it simple and let nzogbia have the freedom to drive the ball forward
