Italian media are linking Aston Villa to Danish 20-year old Frederik Sorenson. He currently plays for Bologna and is part-owned by Juventus. The centre-back has made 9 appearances this season and is no stranger to a change of formation. Like Paul Lambert, Bologna’s manager, Stefano Pioli enjoys changing formations with the young Dane having played right back, centre back, left back and in a 3 man defence; this is a very versatile player.
His young age makes him the perfect Paul Lambert recruit, however many speculate that during this transfer period Villa will focus on experience and spend their couple of quid on more experienced players.
Sorenson would be an excellent signing, he’s young, versatile and would come on the cheap. But this isn’t the saviour that Aston Villa have been looking for.
Is he better than Chris Herd………?
Herd’s a beast player, Clark’s at fault for any defensive issues
Herd is awful
so youve been watching the villa blind folded, herd has cost us a number of results in the passed, the equaliser at QPR there first 2 against then gave away a penalty in that game. his positioning, reactions, miss timed tackles etc is why herd is a liability get vlaar back with clark, bennett and lowton either side and that could be a solid defence but herd is a poor footballer IMO
Agreed, he is slow, clumsy and late in the tackle. Probably why big Feck liked him so much as a DM.
Defo not a CH!!
Say what you like about AM but he was right about alot of things.
herd is shit you get feeling he could fuck up at any second plus i dont see much potential for improvement he plays to much in the mist..clark is very good with alot of potential..
sorenson sounds good fits with what the plan seems to be..
would love to see a real leader come in and the young tony daley pretender from saint-etienne Aubameyang we will do well..KEEP THE FAITH
robbie savage is a CRACK HEAD TRANNY….
Crack head tranny he is and I hope we prove him wrong and stay up.
Could be a good signing supplemented with more experienced signings. The 3-5-2 (5-3-2) formation seems more effective for away games though, so I’d rather see us revert to 4 at the back for home games and away games against teams on our level.
Good point about the formation 4 at the back for home games defo with an Experianced not over the hill pairing.
The truth be known anything better than nothing, we sure cannot defend, 17 in 4 games. for the first time I understood Lambert’s words when that 90th min went in, FFS he mutters. as your saying Villainousvillavillan could just be a back up to an experience one coming in thats on his last playing years.
Three conceded in six prior to that, but I didn’t think that we were Milan of the mid-90s then either.
We need to be able to play a settled side, which we’ll have for the Saints game and thereafter hopefully.
Chelsea, Arsenal and the Mancs are all capable of dishing out absolute thrashings on their day, that is the gulf in class.
We just happened to get a particularly good thrashing.
Vaze I hear what ur saying.. But Wigan could’ve scored 5 at Villa park and the first 20 minutes at Swansea we were a shambles.. The alarm bells should be ringing very very loudly..
Results breed confidence and we now have Ipswich Bradford and Southsmpton.. Get Vlaar back and a new CB and we could grow as a team.. Here’s hoping..
The players are letting him down alot
Well Bill just been through the papers and talk is more of the same from PL in the window twenty somethings Oh and maybe a pensioner from Norwich even older than DB Whom as not even scored for a year..
Ohhh let’s believe everything the papers tell us shall we? That would be very naive wouldn’t it? Let’s all just go fishing for anything unfavourable so we can all just whinge like a child and be all negative… Oh… no. we’ll let you get on with that.
Hope not. Not good enough. Not better than the kids we have, and we need a lot better.
Have u seen him play them Andrew.. You must be scouting him well to know he is no better then Herd Clark Baker n co..
Haha, you’ve got to remember Lionheart… The majority of our fellow Villa fans know better than anyone who has ever stepped foot into our club as manager. That’s why they’re all highly successful nobodies… I mean football managers…
That sounds a bit patronising mate..Everybody is expressing themselves in their own way.Look at it this way everybody wants Lambert and his players to be a success but he isn’t doing very well is he.The amount of hidings we have had this season are unaceptable coupled with the few chicken scraps of good performances its been a crap season.Records popping up everywhere yet he still remains in charge.I hear be positive its up to Lambutt yes butthead to give us something to be positive about not relegation battles and regular proper hidings.UTV
As if the last few seasons have not made you realise that sorting this team out will take TIME! Notice how half the team are from the youth side, most of whom we’d all replace. That is clearly a sign we have a weak squad – even though we bought more players than anybody in the summer. It’s too simplistic, as I see it, to focus on the hammerings.
It wasn’t meant to be particularly polite… And to an extent I agree. BUT… More or less the signings Lambert has made have been fairly good. The players he was left behind are not good enough. No matter what he does with them, a lot of them are unfortunately not up to it. Is that Lambert’s fault? No of course it isn’t, yet people blame him. He’s made mistakes, and he will.. all managers do. IMO, with all the injuries, and our desperately poor squad I don’t think he could have done much better apart from shut up shop and concede less. Yet so many Villa fans expect far far too much.. It was the same under MON and it’ll continue. I’m not happy with our situation but I don’t make ridiculous points about players I’ve barely seen not being good enough, or shout at Lambert to take someone off and then not have an idea of who to bring on etc etc etc… I’m giving him time, and this transfer window before I even think of blaming him. Obv everyone else can get angry if they want… neither right or wrong.
Actually, I watch Serie A quite a lot. Never once claimed I know more than Lambert, so that was a nice try. Simply claimed from actually watching him play, I’ve never seen much from him that makes him better than Herd, Clark or Baker.
That’s a fair point mate.. if you have seen him play and he isn’t upto it then we don’t want him..
If he is a good young player then no harm in buying him.. But it shouldn’t deflect from the need of an experienced CB to play alongside Vlaar..
Yesterday in the end I was gutted not to get all three points but it shouldn’t mask the fact for the first 25 minutes we were alarmingly awful and the defence was all over the place..
Westwood was taking off too and we desperately need another midfielder along with an attacking player..
I’m hoping we make a bid for lescot…………… I am we’ll awar of how unlikely this is but one can hope and it’s well know he is a lifelong Villa Fan
I think that’d be a good idea, a loan move would certainly be on the table
With Toure brother going away to African Nations Cup i dont think Lescot or Milner are going anywhere…………
Need Dunne back to sort out this defence, teach them how to do it….Not a 20 year old Danish “prospect”
Mate that,s all we are going to get is so called prospects. As PLs quot villa can still attract experienced players can;t stop laughing Lescott forget that Villa fan or not does anyone really think he is going to come to a club that is fighting for it;s life.
I’ve just heard one for ya Bradley Pritchard from Charlton LMFAO
Terry Jones…………… I did say it was unlikely, about as likely as you cracking a smile
But maybe, just maybe……….. He is out of favour, a big villa fan……… I think he and vlaar could be awesome and then we could bring the kids through slowly, not just feed them to the lions like we are at the minute
We should IMO get in an Experianced CB or CBs to bolster our leaky defence. The young Dane can come along to the party to learn his trade but not starting 11.
Here’s a question for you – what if he is better than who’s playing at the moment?
You might have said the same about Benteke before seeing him play and look at him now, he’s making quite an impact isn’t he?
As I started saying earlier: having such a young team is not our problem, it’s that half our young team seem to push the definition of ‘premiership standard’. Out of the team that started yesterday I would keep Benteke, Weimann, Westwood, Clark, Lowton, Guzan for sure and not necessarily all starting every game. Half the team.
If we got better young players in we would probably be better, so what’s the problem with that?
Ok mate good point if he is better then fairplay but there are better more Experianced defenders out there
The defence IMO is the only place in the team that experience is a must if you look through all the squads central defensive pairings there average age is significantly higher I am all for young players across the pitch but CB has to have an Old Head and the more I see of Clarke the more I think he would be better in the holding Defensive Midfielder role.
Everybody keeps going on about the defence, the defence.
Ok,imho, the defence is now worse by some considerable margin, than last seasons.
But ,I reckon we had a good defence last season and a lot of people did nothing but bag the shit out of em.
The problem as I see it is still not the defence its the fkn midfield.
Two seasons ago when we were a good top ten side we had a mf of…Young,Downing.Petrov,NRC and Milner…..compare that to the total shite we ve got now.
This means we cant win the ball, hold the ball, set up attacks, pressure the opposition and we cant provide cover for the defence, hence they re under pressure all the time.
These quality players were never replaced and so we ve been struggling ever since and ….I said this 2 years ago, until they are. the only way is D O W N.
Swansea was total bollocks…one shot on goal, that went in,a bullshit penalty….We were lucky, really lucky.
And IMO Lambo,is to blame for our current defensive woes …..he sacked all our experienced defenders and also alienated our best striker ,so I hope he s got something pfg up his sleeve, cause thats what its going to take to get us out of the shit we re in.
And he and Lerner should carry the can if we go tits up…However by then it will be too late.
O sorry…Am I being negative ?
The midifeld has been our biggest problem this season Westwood has impressed me but the rest have been shocking Bannan and ireland are shit and should be sold
Sold or shot? LOL! !!!!
We should have a Headless Chook Raffle…..sell the fkn lot of em .
I thought our defence looked good when it was at full strength but it’s not, which is why we’ve looked a shambles recently. The midfield is where the problem is. I still think we need a central defender and a striker (what if Benteke or Wiemann were injured and out for a couple of months?) but the midfield is where it’s all at. I’m no fan of the long ball from Guzan to Benteke but it’s about our only option at the moment when we can’t pass the ball out and up the field. Lucky we still have two excellent strikers and Guzan, we have the basis of a good team out of the rest but it’s nowhere near there yet.
Get Vlaar back.. add another CB and it will start looking a lot better.. Baker and Clark n be 3rd and 4th Choice..
Midfield is key.. IMO we need TWO players.. one tough tackling player and another who can create score goals but mucks in too.. now im not saying its easy but we need to fins them from somewhere.. because right now are midfield is a shambles..
Banan Ireland Delph Albrighton are not good enuf and need to be sold.. K EA hasn’t shown anything but being in a new country i am willing to leave him a but more time.. now i know they can’t all be shipped out in one go but we need to add players..
Log term i would say only Westwood right now could start for us in midfield… meaning we need to buy three midfielders if hopefully we stay up and next season are looking to push on to mid table..
p.s apologies foe the spelling.. damn Iphone
Right on the button, Lion. Those two players you describe are in my view EXACTLY what we need. The midfield is so weak that it doesn’t protect the defence or offer much creatively. If (bloody big if, I know) we can find them, bring them in, and they hit the ground running, it will probably be the difference between survival and the drop.
Here’s what I hear..Wellbeck and guidetti loans..raoul loe ossosuna and Bradley Pritchard..
Where have you heard about Wellbeck coming on loan..
The gut who new about most of our signings in the summer
Guy
The guy with the gut?

Don’t we have enough 20 year old central defenders as is??!! If there is one position on the pitch in which you need experienced players, its centre back!! Lescott would be great, but as someone said above, the African nations cup means he will be be playing more for City.
Is big John Sleuwenhoek still around….I want to see some big ,perfect sliding tackles.
Lets go down in style!
