IMO I don’t believe even Lambert knows what his best squad is yet. His biggest blow was losing Gabby and Albrighton in preseason. Gabby offers us pace that we always seem to lack when he is not playing. Albrighton is a natural wingers who will (given the chance he wasnt last season) deliver the ball in the box and be the creative force Bent needs.
Ireland to me is still an enigma. I like him and we all know the potential he has but he just doesn’t seem to click with the team. His work rate is fine, yesterday I watched him lose the ball and then chase back and win it back but then couldn’t create anything with it. Bannan had a great preseason and I thought he would have possibly got the nod over ireland yesterday but did not, in fact I think he should have played over Delph. Bannan and Ireland with KEA sitting in the centre may be the best option as all are great passers and aren’t afraid to get on the tackle (although I know Bannan seems lightweight but at least fired up). There is creativity there and when Gabby and Albrighton return I eould stick them on the wings as it gives a fantastic option to play as either 451 433 or even 442 with Ireland or Bannan switching on to the wing.
In terms of signing I don’t think we should be to rash to splash the cash. We still have a tackle in the middle if the park with Herd, also I believe Gardner will show his potential this year.
We should sign another CB and proper CF I believe. I like the shout for K Jones as he adds a physical presence we do not have up top and gives a different option to Bent against teams such as West Ham and Stoke. I do like Clarke and I hope he comes good and is just at this moment suffering from being played in different positions to often and adjusting to whole new defensive partnership with Vlaar, Lowton and Stevens/Baker.
To finish I will probably get shot, I don’t even agree with it myself BUT…….. would anyone think of taking that Judas Downing back if we could get him cheap(ish). He did well for us, scored goals and above all else would provide the service for Bent. I also think he brought out the best in Albrighton as they seemed to have an understanding of when to switch flanks and always knew when the other would be running onto the back post for a attempt on goal. As I said I probably be shot for even thinking it but its not to bad a thought.
Well the young players, and by presumably you mean the likes of Bannan, Delfouneso, Herd, Albrighton, Lichaj, and Stevens, simply aint good enough growler.
We are going nowhere fast if those players are to form the backbone of our team.
Wow one game and every one is arguing among one another! wow give it another loss and every one will be saying sack the manager, no wonder people say Villa fans are fickle!
You know, I really like Bannan’s distribution and Delph’s too but playing both at the same time isn’t such a good idea. I do tend to think of Bannan as someone to come on as a sub at 60 or 70 when legs are getting tired. What does everyone think of Carruthers?
I think he’s extremely promising Foxy. One of our better young talents. I’d definitely like to see him get the opportunity to his establish himself. Another youngster though, and I cant help feeling that the starting line up needs more experience.
Certainly though Carruthers would be a better bet wide right than the likes of Albrighton, who I just cant see as a top flight player.
