After today I have asked the question if indeed this is the worst ever home record.
I have seen it mentioned that if we did not beat Fulham it would be but then I asked the oracle on this. The oracle on this is of course John Lerwill and he has confirmed it is most certainly the worse ever top flight run.
I am 99.75% sure, Ian that the record in the top-flight has been
reached. In 1973-74 (in Division 2) there were 7 games also, but that was 5 draws and 2 defeats. Now it is 5 defeats and 2 draws in the top flight. That is an infinitely worse sequence than any before. Even in 1935-36 (when teams were scoring 7 goals a game sometimes against us), there were breaks when the odd win was obtained.
Got to say that this is quite a record to be broken in all these years and quite a disgraceful one as well. to wait for over three months for a win at Villa Park is a record even the likes of Graham Turner did not have, Mcleish should be ashamed of it.
Aston Villa News 24/7
STOP SPENDING, STOP GIVING MONEY TO LERNER AND THE OVER PAID PLAYERS.
STOP ALLOWING LERNER TO GAIN FINANCIALLY.
EMPTY THE GROUND, MAKE IT CLEAR WE HAVE HAD ENOUGH.
DO NOT SUPPORT LERNER
he is almost certainly losing money, rumour is that discouting tickets has cost £18m already. So look to the finances.
He is not in this for money, but he is now financially embarrassed and how long he can go on watching the club leak money is open to doubt.
A sensible fan group to start probing the finances and liniking with the brown fans is now overdue. ANy takers, or is that too much to ask for?
trevor fisher.
Trevor you may be right re the discounted tickets having an effect.
But as for LERNER loosing I’m not so sure, even with the estimated loss.
Consider year on year he has sold players, did not buy for two and a half years, has the TV, PREM, GATE, SPONSORSHIP REVENUE along with merchandise.
LERNER is a buisness man, the loss will be offset elsewhere, maybe that explains the lack of investment and a poor manager to delect away from LERNER.
I do not believe LERNER will be financially worse off. ITS the club that will feel the impact of any loses, I imagine similar to the BROWNS.
SO LETS DO SOMETHING EMPTY THE STADIUM STOP SPENDING, LETS ENSURE LERNER DOES FEEL IT FINANCIALLY.
Dear TED,
I guess it’s half-term week and your Mother won’t let you go outside to play.
If I look at your pustulating diatriabe in the 5 posts above I would summarize it as follows:
1. You think Ian has some brief for Lerner and his regime and want him to state as much, and even apologize.
2. You would like Lerner to go as soon as possible.
3. You would like McLeish to go as soon as possible.
4. We have poor players.
5. We are about to be relegated.
Explain just one thing. How will points 1,2 and 3 (plus the exacerbation of point 4) stop point 5 happening?
Paul, I’ve been making these points for a while now there not new.
Secondly as it stands we are in a relegation season with a manager who is poor and at best championship players. LERNER remains aloof and appears only to be driven by financial gain.He has not supported the team.
Point 5 could be avoided with a manger who knows how to motivate and has some tacticla ability, do you honestly think AMC falls into this catagory?
He has now delivered a record for home performance, are you seriously saying someone else would not improve our team and their chances?
Do you feel a manager with two relegations in three years and a possible third or at best a near miss in a desirable option?
As for LERNER, what difference would DOUG make coming back at least he engaged. We would be no worse off.
LERNER has not supported the team.
Surely even someone as niave as you can accept that LERNER has two sporting teams where there are similar disquiet due to his refusal to enage with fans and lack of investment.
Ultimatly in this time of austerity LERNER expects people to part with their money but refuses to acknowledge them or even part with some of his own A DISGRACE.
Aston Villa sack Alex McCleish after shock defear to Wigan?
Would defeat to Wigan be a shock ?
Haha
No it wouldn’t
Lose to Wigan then Blackburn and we really will be in the shite. Arsenal, Liverpool and Man u away and Chelski at home, our season hinges on the next two games.
Off topic but follow this link for a good read,I think we need a little reminiscing about the “good old days” at the moment.

Great article I knew sir Ron on a personal level as I was friends with his son who now lives in Norway. The guy is a top bloke and so down to earth its untrue. Apart from a picture of himself and team in his house at the time there was no other memorabellia on show which was a shame really. Even that picture was demoted to their games room. Sir Dennis is right though he really didn’t care much for football after WBA and was more into his golf amongst another thing I don’t think fair to mention. Wish we had a modern day version of sir Ron now. I was there at European cup final and seems like yesterday and that we on the verge of greatness. Unfortunately this never transpired.
I’ve bashed on in the past about renaming a stand in his honour but to many narrow minded Villa supporters seem to forget what he achieved and get lost in rage about the manner of his exit, who cares? Not me that’s for sure, thanks for the memories Sir Ron, for one moment Aston Villa were the greatest team on the planet however brief, what do they say better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all!
So true Ellis should of named stand after sir Ron instead of himself. He built the best team we had in living memory thou big fat rons team should of won league IMHO. I know for a fact that Ellis hated that our most successful period in modern history was not under his reign and has always been in a self denial it ever happened. This came to light when learner came and welcomed sir Ron back with open arms and couldn’t understand why Ellis had almost hidden the fact we were european champions. It was almost like we were too embarrassed to blow our own trumpet. It is well documented why Saunders left but he is a man of principal and turned down a lucrative job with the arabs for us as well as man utd. He didn’t think he was appreciated enough by the bendalls and 3 yr rolling contract was not much to ask considering what he had built. He never wanted to go to blues deep down but couldn’t go outside the midlands for personal family reasons that I can’t mention so had to stay in the midlands. He started becoming disillusioned about football after what happened with the bendalls to be fair.

Top drawer mate.
So much for Ebenezer McLeish’s book balancing feats at Rangers, they’ve just gone into administration discrediting the only positive thing on his CV, time for a reality check Randy???
Rangers main issue was with HMRC. I think it may have been down to tax avoidance schemes for players that have been overturned and the club have to pay the tax on them. A number of clubs ran schemes in the years leading to 2002 when EBT schemes were overturned by HMRC winning in court (I think Chelsea and Arsenal were reputed to be among them). With interest and penalties it would amount to a tidy sum. Not McCleish’s fault though
The point is DS the only thing that got AMC the AVFC job (imo) was how he reduced the wage bill and balancing the books at Rangers, well what else could it have been?? Randy saw this on his CV and got an hard on.
With the events at Rangers yesterday AMC’s fiscal prudence up there looks a little less impressive, although he’s not responsible for Rangers debt and yes your right about the off shore payments to players and the tax avoidance issues but at the end of the day he got the Villa job on the back of what he’d done at Rangers which in hindsight wasn’t much at all, are they stable? Financially secure?
How on earth can you blame AM for the Rangers situation whne he left half a decade ago ?
that is like blaming Ellis for our issues now
I’m not blaming him for Rangers debt but he got the Villa job on the back of his cost/wage cutting at Rangers that obviously didn’t work!
And yes of course you can blame Ellis, WHO WAS IT THAT SOLD US TO LERNER???
And he left in 2006, its now 2012 that’s emmm, oh yes 6 years. Is 6 years a decade now? or do you work in base 6?
Lets look at his time at the Sty, there 4 years and they are in the shit financially, a pattern forming with this alleged master of fiscal prudence or is it my imagination?
So McLeish says he had a “game plan” which, in his own words was, “You have to keep them at nil to have a chance to win the game.”
That is negativity at it’s worst, and seems to be a recurring attitude in most games.
Why not go for it from the kick off? Answer, because that is the way McLeish operates, with fear of losing, not the hope of winning, so it’s no surprise that it’s the worst ever top flight home record.
The manager went on record yesterday, in his after game interview on Sky, as saying that, he has a very good home record in all his time as manager at previous clubs.
I beg to differ, in his last season at Blues, the relegation one, they finished W6 D8 L5, exactly the same home record as when they were previously relegated under him, he is either stupid, economical with the truth, or deluded. All 3 I think.
He has to go before he drags us down with him, I doubt Mr Lerner has the bottle to sack him, ego and pride are at stake, not the good of the club.
Btw ianrobo, was that you hoping for a nil nil on Twitter yesterday? So you subscribe to the tactics of failure and boredom also? Maybe you should apply for the avfc manager’s job when McLeish has gone.
KRANKY at last a real post.
Ianrobbo AND his site are letting us all down.
AMC is incoherant in his interview and laughable with his arrogant refusal to accept hiis own por CV.
Apart from the likes of IANROBBO who allow this fanciful behaviour to continue the MEDIA must alos take the blame, BIRMINGHAM MAIL for example, why are the tough questions asked to AMC, Why is it not pointed out to him that his record as aprem manager is poor?
Why is he not told the facts by these journos is it because they want us relegated, because their friends with AMC or because they lack the bottle?
AMC LERNER OUT.
Birmingham mail do us a favour and challenge AMC
Ted i agree with you about mcleish, but lay off ianrobo he does not want or ever will want villa reglated, and also he has stated many times about how he is frustrated with mcleish
The issue is LERNER.
Lets hear Ianrobbo’s views on LERNER.
just to take it off topic ; i bet heskey is dunnes replacement
Joking apart I said some time ago that heskey should be converted to ch like dion. Can’t be any worse than Dunne.
Douglas Bader couldn’t be worse than Dunne!!!
Thats made me laugh
At least most fans have now got their wish. With Dunne out of the team we’ll see if the defence improves
Agreed be interesting to see. I personally don’t think defence will be any worse and at least (assuming warnock is not playing) we won’t have defenders making costly mistakes every game so that shud help.
You may be right. My concern would be that both Collins and Cuellar play in the right CB, so may not be balanced. Clark would have been more natural as a left footer to balance one of the others. That would have been more interesting to see how he coped but hey ho.
I’d play douglas bader at the back billy, he’s great in the air!
as the debate is no longer about the playing record, why not take a look at the big wide world and the madness which makes it worse elsewhere? Try Glasgow Rangers, just gone bust, or turkey, 100 on trial for match fixing, or Egypt, loads dead in a riot.
Villa are not bankrupt, no one is fixing the games, and no one is dead.
So keep a sense of perspective
