If you want a team to throw away games then you could not pick a better one than Villa over the years.
The first half went exactly as I predicted the game would. We were really good, defending well, and allowing a slow and ponderous Arsenal nothing. then when the chances came we were clinical and efficient. Darren Bent’s finish for the second was magnificent from a tight angle.
Then we had Half Time.
Now clearly when you are two nil down at HT the manager is likely to give a team a kick up the Arse. Is Wenger though THAT good at bollockings ? I don’t think so. Somehow Arsenal worked out that with width here we had no cover for our poor full backs was an area to exploit. Yes RVP is everything to Arsenal but did we have to make it so damn easy for him ? Some of the defending was laughable in the extreme and they took advantage of it of course.
Many people will overlook the excellent first half for a 25 minute period of madness by Villa. In fact just like the Wolves game where we saw the same. It is so obvious pace hurts us and of course we have no one with real pace at the back. This has been our problem all season and teams will eventually learn at this. I have no complaint at the penalties, both were clear and justified. However we maybe should have seen three sending offs in the game, two for them and would have made a big difference.
So in effect season nearly over before Feb, we will not get relegated nor of course in the FA Cup. Many people are having a right go at Mcleish and I am not sure he can be held fully to blame but the lack of fight in the second half has been shocking.
Just hope this has no negative effect for the rest of the season. I am trying to work out why I am not angry at what was seen !

Dunne and warnock cost us again. Every game they have a howler when is AM gona drop them permanently. We need a whole new defence now it’s gone past a joke. Given is good but that’s it. Dunne was also out jumped easily for corner that Ireland cleared of line so effectively 2 big cock ups. Point is he does it virtually every game.

..we underestimated Arsenal on their home soil. How wrong. Yes, Dunne made a mistake for the 1st penalty but beside that he had a good game. Warnock couldn´t handle Walcott in the second half. Bent shouldn´t have gone into this tackle which caused 2nd penalty. And you don´t give the 2nd penalty after 1st one – situation wasn´t clear, not even in slow motion. Old rule: keep a striker out of his own pen area.

Ian, you are rightly critical of the defence but you fail to mention that Carlos Culler-a player you rate so highly-was simply awful. There are players at the club who only have to fart & they get praised, namely Cueller, Albrighton, Bannan, Clarke & the club legend that is ‘Gabby’.
There is no hope for this club-another season ends in January…or is there a twist in the tale? Lose on Wednesday & who knows.

Feel sorry for the fantastic supporters today ,long journey back on a Sunday evening , funny thing is at half time I knew this would happen ,tactically inept manager ,he must have known arsenal would come at us and what did we do ,naff all ! I really haven’t got the enthusiasm to go Wednesday to watch qpr beat us and get dragged into a relegation battle ,season over !!
Unfortunately, I have resigned the future of Villa is nothing but a dreadful one. I love the club, but unless a large amount of favourable fortune comes our way and we get a decent owner who wants to spend money on the playing staff, I see relegation coming, if not this season then next. He took the shit down twice and he will do the same at Villa.
