All I can say is what a game !!
When you saw the team selection playing Gardner made total sense given the other choices and injuries. For the first 15 minutes it paid a great dividend and we played really well. Good harrying by Bent led to a deserved pen and it looked like we could control the game. However at the time I noticed Gabby who started very well suddenly disappeared and Clark was left exposed.
From then on in the first half we were under total pressure and could have been 4/5 goals with no problems at all. so going in at 2-1 down at HT was a relief in many ways and changes had to be made. simply you could not allow Kightly that kind of space down our left and Clark must have been spinning at the end.
With Warnock being brought on for a sick Gabby this made all the difference and the second half became more cautious. Keane then who had done nothing had one piece of magic and helped by the keeper scored a fine finish to level the game. With a sending off, of the stupid Karl Henry this gave Villa the chance to win the game.
Then up steps Robbie Keane again with a fantastic strike to help pay back a large chunk of his money. that strike simply was top class from any player in this league. For the goals I give Keane the MOTM but Gardner ran him very close. We took advantage of when we needed to and got a frantic 3 points when we could have been dead and buried.
Football is such a weird and funny game, no wonder we enjoy it so much !!
Aston Villa News 24/7
All have to say is the following: Robbie Keane should have been a villa player a long long time ago. Doug Ellis – need I say more! As a villa fan you just get the feeling that certain players would have set the club alight. Robbie Keane, for all his ability, has failed to achieve his full potential in the PL. I really believe he would have achieved at villa – what a shame we conspired not to sign him on so many occasions at the peak of his career. Yep he is most definitely one of those who got away. In fact I have a top 3 of those who got away. These players I believe would have undoubtably signed for us at opportune times given the right push and been pure magic for us:
1. Robbie Keane
2. Craig Bellamy
3. Scott Parker
Anyone got any others??
