Well this is from the Everton OS and what a fantastic piece.
Everton have been totally honest about their finances. No spin, no BS, nothing but the facts so fans can see and debate it.
So what has this to do with Villa ?
Simple, us and Everton are basically the same club but in different locations, Pretty similar histories, pretty similar fan bases and crowds, pretty similar teams and positions the last few years. At both clubs the owner under pressure for different reasons but one club has laid out the card and explained in detail and in non technical language the situation.
Everton are pretty much a private club, they are under no pressure to release this in terms of regulations. They did however and it shows a certain amount of openness no other PL club has dared show.
I know a few Villa fans dislike Everton but we should all welcome this and say well done to them.
Aston Villa News 24/7
One important diference mate, the most important one. Everton are not even the biggest club in Liverpool.
Agree with AVMark, the presence of the club in their own city and the stress on success are light years apart.
of course but that is not really relevant to them issuing full and frank financial details
This is all i ask of our board, and i agree they are not the biggest club in Liverpool but they are in the same boat as us, respect to Everton FC for being honest up front and open with the fans.
Most of our money was spent on paul faulkners gastric band.
I know that Faulkner is an absolute joke, happy to moderate Villa’s spending but can’t moderate his own food intake. Can’t wait for that non footballing prat to disappear!!!
he didn’t swallow a gastric band he swallowed a fat larrys band??
The dream is over with randy lerner and alex mcleish
OK so fair play to everton for filing their accounts about 7 weeks before the deadline. Most of the information is in their accounts that they filed a week ago, but they have added some explanation. Villa will file theirs within the next six weeks as they have the same deadline. Then you will know the state of play for last season. The problem is, as with everton it is just a piece of history. It won’t tell us the current wage bill etc. It will show that Lerner’s investment is over £100M in equity and probably around that in loans. And we all want him to throw in enough to buy a few standout players to improve the squad.
I think the board have been quite clear. the wage bill is way too high and has had to be cut to stop the club bleeding cash. That means high earners going, which will reduce the wage bill and the colossal debts. But then we can see that can’t we? What do fans really expect?
I like your view on things – honest! Realistic!
As a life long villa fan Im getting tired of unrealistic villa fans who are quick to moan and groan when things arent going well – yes yesterday was bad but there were some points to take from the game – these seem to be forgotten quickly.
Yes were the biggest club in the midlands! and yes we should be doing better but however many thousands of fans wanted doug out and they got it – not they want lerner out. Its getting stupid. Just because the PL was introduced to Russion Billionaires and Arab Sheiks who want to buy the title it was expected that Lerner would do the same
Aston Villa is a privately owned company and therefore do not have shareholders who have a say and have a right to know about the finances of the club. As fans we should trust the people running the club we love and show our support – through the good and the bad!
I for one dont think AM’s doing a particularly good job – its gone downhill since MON left but look at the calibre of players who left before and after him. These havent been replaced, probably because Lerner sunk so much of his own money in he thought its about time to get some back. The fans moaning about no new players coming in and Lerner not spending should think what they would do if it was their money.
Its easy to sit in the stands and get pissed off when your not the one whos losing an extra £1m per home game in revenue…..partly to do with idiot fans trying to arrange a boycott! Hows that going to help!
I, and many others are ashamed at the way Blackburn fans have treated Keane – dont ruin our reputation, our history (our status as most influtential club? – see related post) by stooping down to their level.
And DSvilla – your right – Swansea beating us is exactly the same as us beating chelsea – as much as we played well against Chelsea – they were shocking!

Exciting attacking football, wins wins, wins
OK. But really, who is doing that? For every Spurs I can name you an Everton, Stoke etc. I think wigan have a reputation for attractive football but not wins wins wins. Would you swap Villa’s position for theirs?
I’m not ignoring our weaknesses but i do think things will gradually improve, but we have to try to be patient for a while. Swansea was crap but it’s probably no more representative of the general situation than the win at Chelsea was.
Everton are a direct equivalent. I can’t think of a more similar team, both historically and in the present day. Both sleeping giants I’d like to think!
