Full Time – Swansea 0 vs Villa 0 – RIP Gary Speed

Sunday lunch KO’s are THE worse you can have as a fan, player or manager, hate them.

FULL TIME and the obvious result of a draw a lot predicted came in. A point in those circumstances was good and at least not a defeat. However not much to say, MOTM was Gabby as our only threat and we move forward. No match report tonight due to the circumstances in which this game was played.

81 – good block from Given saves a Lita goal

79 – Bent should have scored when clear, hit straight at the keeper, apparently offside

78 – Bannan on for Delph who improved in the second half

76 – Hutton positionally very poor let Sinclair in, saved by Collins. Swansea not really threatened but nor had we.

68 – Jenas on for Heskey

64 – Villa well on top with Delph playing well

56 – Slow start and Gabby causing more problems as we start well(ish)

14:38 – Game kicks off for the second half, no changes

HALF TIME and pretty boring game in all honesty. We got back into it in the second half of the half but way off the level we should be at.

36 – Now Dunne booked

28 – Subdued game, we have had a couple of decent openings but swansea controlling the flow of the game

18 – Gabby took advantage of the Swansea RB struggling and forced a save out of the keeper. Tactical change, Gabby on the left, Heskey up front

13 Mins – All Swansea possession and Hutton and Delph already booked

13:33 – Kick Off

13:32 – Emotional minutes silence for Speed, which turned into a loud round of applause, well played all. shay Given clearly in bits over it and was very close to Speed.

13:28 – Players out to chants of ‘Only one Gary Speed’

13:17 – Contrary to previous reports Alex Mcleish on sky has not mentioned any withdrawals but made it clear we would have agreed to a cancellation

13:04 – I have decided no analysis or comments about the game today, just update with the facts of what happens

12:51 – Game will go ahead

12:34 – TEAM NEWS FWIW –

Cuellar dropped, Petrov is injured

VILLA: Given, Hutton, Collins, Dunne, Warnock, Herd, Delph, N’Zogbia, Heskey, Bent, Agbonlahor.

SUBS: Guzan, Clark, Cuellar, Bannan, Albrighton, Jenas, Delfouneso

12:32 – It is a total shock about Gary Speed and reports saying it was suicide, just dreadful news

12:21 – SHOCKING news as Gary Speed has dies at the age of 42. RIP Gary and this puts a massive shadow over today’s game

12:18 – However we get the great god of money from Sky and play to their tune. This is a crucial game for self belief and morale for the team and when Mcleish said

“It’s no disgrace to lose to Tottenham but the manner in which we went about it was not a team that was extension of me. There will be changes.

then you have to ask who sets the team out in such a negative manner, whatever changes should be positive and maybe up to 4, we will see.

  1. Yea you have a point but was he told “let him know your there”? I honestly didn’t think he was that bad, infact I thought the stupidest tackle was by Warnock on the edge of the box but he got away with it.

    • Yeah, and Delph’s tackle in the second minute was pretty daft too.

Ha ha, let him know you’re there?? If Hutton was told that I think he took the suggestion a little bit too far. But that isn’t the point, it isn’t the strength of the tackle that bothers me as much as the stupid areas that they are happening

  2. when it becomes painful to even watch your own club that you love and adore then it jsut isn’t right. We Villa fans don’t deserve this and we can keep putting ourselves through this. Envisage a march soon, dont believe the crowds are having that impact, someone should fly a plane over villa park with mcleish out just like blackburn did, Bruce at Sunderland is feeling the pressure lets all get him out of
villa park and save our club

  3. Billy WalkersShirt,

We certainly weren’t as bad as Monday, but apparently a radio commentator said that Swansea’s performance was the worst he’d seen in 3 and a half years.
Says a lot for how good we were, doesn’t it?

Surely you saw how we can’t put any football together?
As for us being tedious to watch, well……

  4. But don’t you find all this negativity is becoming a little tiresome? Spurs are a top drawer outfit and to be honest if the myth that is MON had been all that the team would have run itself for the next 18 months after he left, Sir Ron’s team did.

    • MON’s team isn’t there. Remember Milly, Ash and Judus – 3 of our finest have all left. And the defence has collapsed since MON’s back room staff left with him. We were BETTER than Spuds. And the negativity comes from the club. We just reflect this shit back.
      Get the protests going ASAP!
      MCLEISH OUT!

      • Apart from Milner the rest were still there last season and where were we then? Oh yes just remembered, wallowing in the bottom 5 for most of it.

  5. Yes, it’s tiresome.
But people are just calling it as they see it.
And it’s not as if there are any positives to my mind, just none at all.
Sticking with out of form players, playing some out of position, etc etc

And yes, Spurs are a decent side, but it was like we’d lost before we’d started the game. That’s just unforgivable.

Something’s just not right, as I don’t believe our players are as bad as we’re looking and I can’t see how this situation can carry on.

  6. Its hard to find anything positive to say this season. The only things I can think of are the performances of Given, Agbonlahor and more recently of Herd. Bannan and Gardner give us some optimism for the future but aside from that, i dont see anything else positive to say. McLeish’s negative tactics and laughable team selections have even turned the most pragmatic Villa supporters against him.

  7. at least hutton showed some fight and passion, albeit sometimes misguided….. bent was a waste of space, and as someone rightly said, he had reasonable service 2day but was totally disinterested… playing for a move maybe?

  8. Pretty disappointing that we didn’t win this. Started far too negative. Bannan should have been on from the start.

On a positve note, Gardner scored on his debut for Coventry.
