Mcleish the deluded and old team

Well Alex Mcleish will make friends tonight with his after match comments.

James Nursey has posted this on twitter

AM told press #avfc had their chances, blew them and were punished. Said failed to close down #thfc enough. Demanded response at Swans

Well I have to say I am stunned at that. Er….. Alex, what chances mate ?? which chances did we spurn that cost us the game, out of the three shots on goal, compared to at least 8 clear cut Spurs ones. Even DOL at his most deluded, even after Doncaster never said something so mad it defies the belief of any single Villa fan watching it tonight.

Then lets look at the ages of the players tonight

Stiliyan Petrov 05/07/1979
32

Shay Given: 20/04/1976
35

Alan Hutton 30/11/1984
26

Stephen Warnock12/12/1981
29

Richard Dunne 21/09/1979
32

James Collins 23/08/1983
28

Carlos Cuellar 23/08/1981
30

Stiliyan Petrov 05/07/1979
32

Emile Heskey 11/01/1978
33

Gabriel Agbonlahor 13/10/1986
25

Darren Bent 06/02/1984
27

= 29.9 average age
= 30.09 average age after december.

Thanks to a poster on this blog, how worrying is that. I am aware that Mcleish has NO track record AT ALL on bringing the kids through but this is a shocking stat. Surely if he wants a reaction from the players and fans he HAS to play Bannan, Clark and YES I would play Gardner against Swansea. Energy, vigour, youth, all good ingredients for a team.

Go on Alex, be brave, stop being negative and lets go for it !

  1. I think there is an exaggeration here. Just like the rest of you, I am disappointed with the manner of the defeat. But did anyone really believe we could compete with spurs at WHL?? They have numerous gifted players that are extremely comfortable on the ball. They have a genuine passing style of play and a well balanced team across the pitch. In recent times we have always struggled against spurs under Redknapp. Even the successful o’neill team failed to pick up points against them- we were always clinging on for defensive type draws when we weren’t losing to them.

    • I believe he played Hutton at right midfield as a physical defensive presence to combat bale. As if that wad going to stop bale! Not using our young talent and playing defensive players in advanced positions is appalling. I have tried to remain open minded but Mcleish has lost my respect after these tactics. He is clueless when it comes to attacking tactics. The midfield has always been a mess since the season commenced. He chops and changes from a 5 man midfield to 4. Heskey for all is hard work, simply can’t be played in midfield and always gets it wrong in the 18 yard box.

We were always going to lose, but the way the team was set up to not even be able to give it a go with the stupidity of Hutton on the right wing. For mcleish not to change it round sooner when he saw we were losing control, is criminal and unforgivable. I have tried to remain positive up till now but I have no choice but to conclude that he has no managerial dynamism that our club requires. I can’t see him coming back now with the top clubs to play. I’m afraid for the first time I have to suggest:
      MCLEISH OUT!

      • couldnt agree with you more, the guy just stood there like a plum and did nothing. with the attacking talent he has, particularly youth talent he has to play them coz whats out there at the moment aint cutting it.
He obviously CANT react when we are being fooked in every department, feel sorry for heskey, he is trying his arse off but he aint no left midfielder.
PLEASE LERNER, GET RID OF THIS CHUMP

    • I can remember O’Neill’s sides beating Spurs. In fact I can remember it was Spurs clinging on for draws against us. Tottenham Hotspur, more often than not, finish below Villa in the league.

      • Villa haven’t beaten spurs in 6 league games now, and 11 league games against redknapp. Think it’s fair to say that they enjoy playing us :/

  2. Ian, I applaud your last comments about the intoduction of the youngsters named. i.m.o. the Swansea match would be just the right time to bring them in. At Spurs it was probably not the right time, but now it is. Combined with Jenas, that might possibly be the salvation for the Villa.

  3. All Villa fans please make sure you fill your Xmas period with other happinesses because Villa are in shit streets and will have dropped down the table come the turn of the year.

  4. Ever single time the ball goes back. It just gets hoofed up to noone just for the opposite team to attack again.
I want to start a chant of HOOOOOOF everytime they do. maybe the point will come across then.
How can you expect to win when you don’t want to retain possession and gift it back t the other team

  5. Don’t worry lads, I have it on great authority that avfc HAS already been sold and will be announced after January. The interview with randy is a blatant cover up, he suddenly comes out and speaks when rumours start circulating about the sale of the club. Add to that there was nothing new, nothing we hadn’t already been told. Watch this space!!

    • at least he got the bit about not closing down spurs players right!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

could be a blessing in disguise this one

were always going to lose this game

but the fashion in which we lost it should prove to be an enormous kick up the jaxxy for all concerned

    • If only!

      LERNER & McLEISH OUT NOW!

    • and do you still believe in Father Christmas and the fairies ??….wish it was true mate I really do ‘cos relegation is a dead cert…..
I dont go on any other villa blogs due to the noderators being complete tossers but Id like to know what drivel VT are on about …Is Mr Fear backing big eck still ????

  6. Sack the manager! he couldn’t even make us beat 3rd in the league on their home ground. We must be a laughing stock, blah blah blah

  7. Alex Mcleish comments about Alan Shitton in birmingham mail :
“I’ve been playing four forwards the whole season and I took one out.
“Maybe Alan wasn’t exactly the ideal man there because he’s more of a defender coming onto the ball as opposed to being ahead of it.
“But we thought that he could cope and that him and Carlos could thwart the two attacking left sided Spurs players. I didn’t think Hutton did too badly and Carlos, in fact, did quite well.”

So Mcleish thinks “didn’t think Hutton did too badly” if that is not bad then I sure hope we dont see Hutton play BAD !!!

  8. One of the worst piss poor performances I’ve ever seen, totally and utterly dross, we never stung half a dozen passes together, to many long balls, to predictable, no craft, no guile no fucking idea. Mc fucking Clueless parks up the bus, puts 11 behind the ball but we are right royally fucked if the concede. Sack this useless, clueless inept clown now.

  9. putting 11 behind the ball worked in the 80′s and possibly in lesser leagues. In this league the quality clubs have the talent and experience to sit back and wait for the win. We were outclassed and a terrible formation also meant we really looked out classed. Old team, dated tactics, no money. Let us hope we scrape through the season and start building next year.

  10. Last night my faith in villa well and truly took a nose dive, from having ash young, downing and walker last year, who are fast paced forward thinking modern players. We had Heskey, hutton and cuellar. Heskey contniues to drag the plough, hutton is simply not good enough, and cuellar was again out of position.

  11. I hadn’t realised we usually won at Spurs, or even against Spurs for that matter.

Just shows you how much I don’t know.

McLeish gambled on an ultra defensive tactic and failed thanks to two awful defensive errors.

The result just kept us out of the bottom 3 I believe and with some easy games to come I expect better.
