So this is what he has said I read.
From Mike Taylor the BBC Radio WM reporter on twitter
bbcwmmiketaylor Mike Taylor
Alex McLeish tells BBC WM that #avfc will make “one more signing” before start of new season. interview to follow on 95.6FM
Talksport are saying he said ‘one more TOP signing’ but what should we believe from the words of those in football. Just a few days before we signed Darren Bent, Houllier claimed no forward lined up so he was lying.
It is all part of a game in football of bluff, double bluffs and lying to distract people. The TOP signing could easily be N’Zog with say further signings like Hitz or another free signing. The other factor is relying on the likes of Ireland, Warnock and even Beye coming through and make up the numbers and hoping the kids come through.
Big risks and if true confirms Young’s money was used for Bent and Milner’s just banked.
EDITED
Just heard the radio interview and AM, says one AT THE MOMENT but kept stressing how we have to reply on the players already here. All I want to be honest is to spend every penny of the money we got from Young and Downing, sod even a net spend. Unless AM is a great bluffer, forget that.
Aston Villa News 24/7
It’s hilarious the pompus responses of MR. Lerner’s PR machine (which i presume you are either a major cog in or a total beleiver in).
Yes we need an alternative in place before we chase him out, yes i can read and interpret accounts, and yes there were not a que of people the last time we were sold…. and this therefore (apparently) means we must just lie down and get fucked by people without so much as having and opinion because or we’ll be accused of ‘not being a true fan’ (a bit like 30s-50s germany, italy and spain)
well as i m not going to descend into the child like, i will refrain from mentioning my birthplace or where 5 generations have stood/sat on the holte for how many games. However it is pertinent to mention that if Mcleish’s staement was literal, we should expect no better than 13th and apparently, acoording to a lot of you; be happy about it.
Yeah we even have a cult headquarters under Star City where we dress in Cleveland Brown tops whilst praying to a giant MBNA credit card for Championship Football and Cameron Jerome to sign for us.
Being realistic about the situation we find ourselves in isn’t the same as being happy about it.
I would hope we are aiming for an improvement on last season and to try and maintain a more comfortable position throughout the season than we did last and as I said above it will still be a “whatever” kind of season.
If the finances need to be straightened out and we have to wait to offload more of the average players on high wages before we can improve then so be it, we have to accept that as a fact until the finances improve or we are taken over by someone with masses of oil money.
i accept your points about the finances; no problem if what he is doing is getting us in line with financial fair play guidelines, as long as he comes out and says this before he begs for my money, even through Faulkner if he preffers the quiet life. But to ostensibly say we are aiming for Champions League (i havent seen any officail articles on our website talking about us breaking into the top 10), garner the biggest sponsership deal in our history, whilst raking in the highest season ticket revenue in the whole of our history; and taking in the biggest amount of transfer fees, and reducing our wage bill by incredible, probebly again, history making amounts.
It does seem he has lost faith and given up, because all of the above just doesnt add up
100% agree that we should be openly told what is going on and what (at this current moment in time) we are looking to achieve.
I am of the opinion that he no longer wants to be in a position where we are paying high wages to a lot of players that never play and so given the numbers in the squad take us to about the 25 limit, give or take.
I can understand this, if you were running a business would you want to pay 4 or 5 guys upwards of 40k a week not to do any work?? It is difficult to come out and say this openly as it is going to give the hump to a lot of the fragile minds we have in the squad…………..but we should at least be told that money is tight.
Why is it pompous to be a realist ?
I hope that Santa brings you the billionaire Chairman that you seem to feel we’re due, but I don’t believe in Santa anymore.
I don’t think that Villa are lying down and getting ‘fu*ked over’, I think that we’re living within our means.
Everyone can have an opinion, what is a true fan ? You want Lerner out and someone else in who spends (even more of*) their own fortune, I would like that but don’t envisage it happening.
You weren’t going to be childish, but then you couldn’t help yourself. Congratulations if you were born on the centre circle and for being a sixth generation fan.
I don’t think anybody would be chuffed with 13th, other than Swansea, Wigan, Wolves, WBA, etc, etc. Fourth of fifth would be great, sixth or seventh ok, anything less disappointing.
I don’t want the club to go bankrupt aiming to achieve this, it may put off your seventh generation.
You sound a decent bloke, probably interesting to talk to over a pint, why the heavy sarcasm to make a post ? You’ll only invite it back.
*yes, I appreciate it has been converted to loan stock.
i accept the sarcasm back; its only fair if i am confrontational, or offensive that people can be to me. I accept we shouldnt bankrupt the club; and i dont expect some ramdom billionaire; but these are the last transfer windows before the financial fair play rules, if we are to invest to the level to which we all aspire then i can only be done in the next 7 months. It is quite accepted busness model to spend in order to reap in the future, and long term a couple of solid signings and a decent season and revenue streams increase and we are in a better place to compete after the rules come into force, limiting Citeh and Chelski (especially chelsea) and if we were within a 5 places of them our academy will come into its own in the years after that; who knows what the future could hold.
I just see our last big chance to cling onto the coat-tails of the best fading over the mountains.
Amen to that brother, but sadly, in this money laden league, investing £50m+ to try and get to fourth or fifth instead of seventh or eighth is a big ask.
Doesn’t look like he wants to do it, which is sad if true.
Football would be better if it were as competitive as the Eighties again, when the finances were in no way as disproportionate as they seem today.
And it does break your heart that you have to work on keeping kids in Brum as Villa fans instead of Man U or Chelsea, but that says more about modern life than Villa.
oh yes its not just the football that does it! I just always have been of the opinion i want to aim for the stars; even if you fail the hopes and dreams can keep you going in bad times- i no longer know our hopes and dreams. I understand the pragmatism, i do, and i’ll be back next season- i said i wouldnt after Mcleish and wasnt going to untill i asked my 4 year old son if he wanted to go to Villa next year “of course- we support villa”- i just have to keep hold of some kind of dream that things will get better, or at least fail playing barca style football!
Speaks Through Anus said “You have got to love the clueless pricks that post on here.
Alex McLeish is the manager, young and downing have gone but everything is fine and Lerner is god”
Massive overstatement and distortion of the facts once more.
You either cannot or will not reason with an opposing opinion or reasoned argument.
Randy Lerner cannot compete with the Chairman in this league who truly have no limit to their investment capability.
As has been stated, £1bn in a couple of years at Citeh, a vanity purchase of £50m by the Russian.
Is Randy Lerner the best Chairman possible. Probably not. Is he trying his best for the club, I think he has shown that. He was badly let down by several people.
Is there a queue of foreigners waiting to live in Brum and blow their fortunes playing catch up in the Premiership with us as their toy ? Doesn’t look like it.
Face facts, we sold out once last season, crowds have been poor, it is difficult financial times for many.
Have we tried to retain each of Barry, Milner, Young and Downing ? Yes, all were offered club record breaking contracts, but left for what they felt were greener pastures.
Barry has won an FA Cup, Milner sat on the bench for it, both will have CL football next season.
Young has signed for the most successful English club, God knows what Downing was thinking, but he’s a cu*t and I hope he gets injured again.
None of you Lerner out mob can have ever looked at a company’s balance sheet, let alone forward plan one.
Lerner must go because he won’t invest in Villa.
This coming from a set of fans who are refusing or are unwilling to renew, and a fanbase that has struggled to get a sell out unless we get to Wembley.
I hope we do well this season, don’t think we’ll win th eleague but I don’t think we’ll go down.
As for not being a true fan or having to be a Lerner apologist for seeing reason, take a look at yourselves lads.
Well put as always Vaze
I’m sure the hate mob will get to you shortly, haha
i was nodding along up until you said i have never looked at a balence sheet, then to suggest that somebody has to follow something blindly in the vauge and false hope of success; well if thats your thing fine but i like independent thinking. kind of ruined some very good points about the departed players.
what is happening to our club. 1 more signing, and the money we took in with letting 2 go.
why is everyone so depressed about villa? lets just get on with it, i mean i want villa to be challenging for top 4 but it wont happen this season, or in the near future. with all the great talent coming through the ranks, lets just enjoy seeing some young blood in team.
I’ll drink to that Olly, probably Strongbow on the way to Craven Cottage.
I have stated before that I get more pleasure from cheering on and supporting a local lad in coming through the ranks than an Argie mercenary who can’t stay put for five minutes.
“to follow something blindly in the vauge and false hope of success”
Is that not the Oxford dictionary definition of supporting a football team??
