For whatever reason we always seem to turn some signings into a saga and finally the capture of Given who was first mooted when McLeish joined is over.The reported fee I have seen is £3m and possible wage is £50k a week and it fills a position vacant since Brad left and we can look forward to seeing Given in goal.
There is no doubt that given is a quality PL keeper and I have no problem with him signing for Villa but I think other options were long term a better signing but he is not a duff keeper so at least that position is sorted now. The length of the contract does stun me at FIVE years for a keeper who has had injury problems and is no Brad Freidel for his fitness record.
I will not proclaim him as some fans have said that he is a world class keeper but he will not let us down either. I t also appears that Brad Guzan is going to be the number two and he will get some games to prove if he is up to it.
So welcome Shay and enjoy your stay at Villa and hopefully join a long list of quality keepers we have had.
