Busy now that we have sold a player so everyone can get to work on speculation.
So we have the daily record claiming we have accepted a £2m bid for Carlos Cuellar, just how mad is that ?
I would be totally pissed off if this was true as I can think of at least two other defenders (Dunne and Warnock) who deserve to go first and in fact should have gone by now.
Of course loads around about N’Zogbia with the latest being Mat Kendrick saying we have bid £10M but one report in the Daily Mail Sunderland are sniffing, 1005 sure he is Brum bound.
Quiet on Shay Given
Then finally the Daily Mail reckon we are looking at that total waste of space – Shaun Wright-Phillps for £4m for a 30 year old who has totally wasted his career, just WHY ?? Thought we wanted ‘value for money’ and not a retirement home for footballers looking for their last pay days.

Aston Villa News 24/7
Looking at SSN Spurs wont Shaqiri for 5 million, if it’s true then Villa should put in a bid. Would be a shame if Cuellar left, when fit he is Villas best Defender.
Cuellar had a good game at the molinuex and suddenly he is beckenbauer and bobby moore rolled in to one.
Very average footballer. To think we played 7.8m is frightening. We should be looking to offload him, dunne and collins they are all a bag of wank.
Should of gone for Roger Johnson, bargain at 6.5m. But obviously McLeish has got to work with the shit we have because we wont shift any of them at a decent price.
I agree with most of this but i do think Collins and Dunne are good defenders, they made a lot of mistakes last year because the full backs were pulling them out of position, leaving us caught out in the middle.
N Zog is better than Downing, if we get him at half the price then it is a deal even if he only has a year left on his contract, like Scholes has said i think Villa are now wise to the fact we are a holding ground for players breaking into the England squad, time for us to bring on the youth and sign overseas players only, so we do not get stung again by greedy over rated one dimensional footballers
Agreed. We have spent too long trying to shuffle Collins, Dunne and Cuellar in to some sort of order when, in reality, they all belong in the ‘fucking average at best’ category and need shipping out ASAP. Collins and Dunne belong in a different era. Cuellar is a functional squad player and probably belongs in a different league.
Very well said – is that really you JPA?!?
RANDY LEANER AND THE HIS BROAD HAVE LOST IT
…broad ?
Who is this American tart that is running our club?
Fee agreed for Given
It would be of some concern if we viewed Shaun Wright Phillips as progression.
Love NZog, Love Given, Cueller was our best defender again in a very BAD season for our defence not hard to look good, he’s never looked at home in Villa tbh but, SWP could be potentially a very good signing about if NZog or Albrighton Got injured who would we have? 4m for SWP would be good business, AND if we get parker im thinking our line up is twice as better as the one we had last year could do with a defender or two though otherwise McLeish you’re impressing me mate if you get these to put pen to paper.
The transfer policy appears to have been changed to be based on sabbotage and high risk:
What if Given’s injuries strike again? (highly likely) – and he is coming to the end of his career…
SWP – past it, no sell on value, nothing to motivate him apart from a nice wage packet (big mistake)
Parker – what if he misses a large portion of the season injured (again, highly likely) – he is also over the hill I’m afraid (excellent player but no sell on value and poor business at 7mil+)
I hate to say it but it does look as if Randy and the board have lost it. These are the type of signings DOL made because Doug got tight – remember selling a young Hitz coming up to his prime and replacing him with the geriatric and injury prone Berger – that went well didn’t it? Sorry, but all this smacks of the same misguided policy to save a few pennies – NOT good business by all accounts
Worried…
For the record, pennies won’t be saved – they will be wasted because it’s all FALSE ECONOMY!
Honestly I have never heard such drival.
We have sold Young with 1 year left on his contract and 27 year old Downing for a combined fee of £40m. We largely had no choice.
We are signing a inside forward who is arguebly as good for half the price, trying to sign one of the best midfielders in the league (if champion contenders Chelsea don’t sign him) and we are soon to sign on of the best keepers in the league in recent history who is 5 years younger than our old keeper!
Everything else is speculation but if we get Parker, CNZ and Given it is not a bad start! A rivitalised Ireland and Warnock may be like two new signings as well plus we have Delph, Makoun, Albrighton and Clarke who could really make the step up this season and finally we have one of the most prolific goal scorers in the league. Get a f*cking grip people !!!!!
We will be a competitive force next season and will pose a pacey direct attacking threat. Albrighton on the one wing, CNZ on the other, hopefully Parker and Irelend releasing them with incisive through balls they are reknowned for with super Darren Bent to finish the job.
Appaulds wildly!
Grow up wake up.
If we struggle next season or get relegated it will be because of people like you.
Where Moyes.
What happened to DOWNNING NOT FOR SALE?
Our defence is terrible why have we not got rid of Dunne/Warnock?
Are you from LERNERS press office?
Read the comments on this site from people who have supported Villa for a very long time.
You mean moaned non stop about Villa for a very long time right??
Spot on McGrath
Ted is a snotty pimpled moaning rash and JPA talks out of his backside. As for Jinksy – no class whatsoever
And to add to all of their negatives, they can’t write Proper English!!
I will go with that. My concern is the manager’s ability to make the ingredients tasty.
I think we have the nucleus of a good, possibly very good squad. And the prospective additions appear strong. But Alex? Can he do it?
BTW not knocking. He will have my support as he proves it one way or t’other.
Good, lets see what your saying when were fighting relegation or worse relegated. will you still support LERNER?
Ted, you are the one that needs to wake-up.
I was not happy with McLeish’s appointment initially but have come around to it. He won a cup with a weak blues side so he obviously is good at making the most of what he has.
Our defence was one of the best in the league the season before and can be very good again if disicplined and AM could be the man to do that.
Would you rather keep Young and Downing and then next year Downing goes for £12m and Young on a free? There is nothing we could realistically do. It is not Lerners fault they wouldn’t commit to the club.
Looking at the players we have, a good preseason and some stability coupled with some good solid signings and we could even push for a top 4 place. The key is stability though and ranting about how it is Lerners fault MON squadered the genuine chance of AVFC becoming a ‘big’ club.
We need to consolidate for a few seasons, grow revenue, nuture our young talent, make some clever signings, clear the remainder of MON dead wood and then maybe someone outside investment could push us on to the next level while we win a cup on the way.
* not ranting!
MJV – It is not you that is ranting is it. No apologies necy. Good mature debate. Ta.
Ted – bit early for the beer ain’t it? Instead of simply knocking the club from top to bottom ( between your spelling lessons – btw good luck with that) why can’t you take a step back, accept where we are and give us a clue as to how you might give positive input. That at least might be respected.
If we’re not fighting relegation will you shut your face?
Totally agree with everything you said mjvilla if we get the players we are being linked with even swp i think to be able to play games continually is a good enough incentive for a player, hope we have a really good season just to shut all these fuckers up for slagging the villa off,i no we have been a joke so far with the way the clubs being run,the manager situation, top players leaving etc but lets get these players in who want to play for the villa and show them we aint finished yet
MJ – I’m usually positive and still am – but there seems to be a distinct shift (if the rumours are true) from buying players coming into their prime to buying players that are past it.
My opinion is that Parker, SWP and Given are over the hill – that’s just my opinion…
LIKE!!!! +1
disgraceful.
LERNER IS DISTROYING OUR CLUB.
Selling all the assets and buying third rate plyers.
Yes I know he bought Bent BUT THAT WAS TO WARD OF RELEGATION.
Lerner would have lost more.
He has sold our player of the season three years in a row.
I hear you say they wanted to go. Ask yourself WHY?
Because we have no ambition, no money a owner who has been miking us.
We sell Downning for 20ish but n’zogbia 10 ish LERNER MAKES.
You LERNER FANS WHO FAILED TO SEE THIS COMING HOLD YOUR HEADS IN SHAME.
We now have a yes man manager a BLUES MAN.
He has to work with players who are not good enough and certainly not committed. Why is DUNNE and WARNOCK still at the club? Get rid.
GET RID OF LERNER.
You Lerner fans have no right to feel hard done by you have contributed to this it was well advertised what LERNER was doing.
You LERNER fans have no right to complain when we are fighting relegation this season or worse relegated, remember the man you believe in has done this.
I’m even starting to feel sorry for Alex Mc what happened to.
DOWNNING NOT FOR SALE.
Wonder who decided otherwise.
Remember that was said in public how stupid and underming does that look.
LERNER runs the club malkes all the decision.
ITS OBVIOUS HIS DECISIONS ARE WHATS BEST FOR LERNER.
LERNER OUT.
Ted – see above.
Good news LERNER FANS.
The Liverpool players and fans are happy with the purchase of Downning, at leats LERNER can help build and strenghthen LIVERPOOL.
Was it Houllier or LERNER who touched the LIVERPOOL sign in the tunnel last years?
LERNER well done sold our best player. gave the manangers job to a BLUES MAN.
WHY SHOULD YOU CARE HOW WE VILLA FANS ARE FEELING AS LONG AS YOU MAKE MONEY.
BUT I BET YOU STILL EXPECT US ALL TO TURN UP AND SPEND MONEY.
YOUR A DISGRACE. LERNER OUT.
I will write you a letter to Mr Lerner
Dear Mr Lerner,
Stop hurting Ted’s feelings, pretty please.
Ted, grow the f#ck up and support your team and stop acting like an a*#ehole!
You are seriously missing the point.
If we allow LERNER to continue he will destroy our club. Do you want that?
I GUESS YOU DO AS A MEMBER OF LERNERS PRESS OFFICE.
A question if we get relegated will you still be as happy with LERNER?
vILLA FANS WANT WHATS BEST FOR OUR CLUB, WHICH ISN’T A CHAIRMAN THAT TREATS US WITH DISTAIN AND SELLS OF OUR ASSETS.
I’m amazed at your lack of appreciation or support of the club.
LERNER is not the club.
Are you from LERNERS press office?
Remember you support this, you will be as responsible as LERNER.
Yes TED, every single person on this forum who looks into even the slightest positive from our club is in fact an employee from Randy Lerners press office.
I am infact his PA and I know FOR A FACT that championsofeurope1982 is Paul Faulkner in disguise!! We regularly do lunch and discuss in detail your insightful and extremely logical comments over an expensive latte and chocolate croissant charged to the club credit card……….ssshhh, if Randy finds out we will need to sell Darren Bent to balance the books!!!!
My cover is blown!
Well said championsofeurope1982…………TED “constantly copy and paste your illiterate drivel” DY BEAR you really are a complete dick!!
A lot of you guys are idiots. Even Arsenal, a top 4 side, have been selling like crazy with only one good player coming in so far.
Almost all clubs not the top 16 moneywise in UK and Europe have to sell, and even some of those have to do that. You really do nto pay attention to what goes on outside your little bubbles….
Only top earning clubs can spend big with these new rules all across Europe. Sunderland have a nice fairly new ground do not forget. And to be honest, Villa are losing money. and have problems filling Villa Park. If you don’t go to the games they’ll have less money, and for those fans abroad then buy their junk from the store.
Where do you think this money comes from? Does it grow on trees?
Randy does not have a bunch of oil money or shady cash inherited from a gang of royal thugs. He inherited some, but he is running it as a BUSINESS not a money pit like others do.
Do any of you run a business? Really?
I will put my house on the fact that TED will respectfully, yet surprisingly coherantly, disagree with you Geoff.
yOU SAID IT HE RUNS IT LIKS A BUISNESS.
Remember if we get relegated YOU supported LERNER.
I totally understand the restraints, BUT what you fail to recognise LERNER spent in Jan for the first time in almost three years and that was to avoid relegation, it would have cost him more.
I WANT OPENNESS.
I do not want to feel our club is being stripped and we line the pockets of LERNER.
Lerner initially sold us on a bright future, OK I accept it may have changed BUT if that the case then I totally fall out and disagree with the false perception he still has HIGH ambitions.
This is misleading and unfair.
Its almost as if he wants us all to still believe in his initial plan so we continue to invest in the club.
LERNER is a buisness man he is in it to make money.
He his running our club into the ground.
We are now worse than when he arrived if not the same at best.
We are going backwards fast and sadly we have people running the club who appear to have not affilitaion or commitment.
Why can we not getr rid of the likes of Dunne and Warnock.
Do you really believe that want to play for our club?
Ted. If you honestly do not want to ” line the pockets” of Lerner. Don’t go to Villa Park.
I have an inkling that about a score of people who sit near you will be grateful.
Well said Geoff. Ted – please piss off – you sound like you are off you head FFS
Probably..
I think a large portion of this also has to do with the remaining MON slop that still will likely sit the bench. Beye is still here..Luke Young…Dunne/Collins…Heskey
Total up their weekly salaries and you get a big albatross, a little lighter with those releases, but still there.
We have excellent youth coming through, and they will figure a larger part this season, let us not forget. WE will buy 3-5 players the rest of this window…then the rest of the slots will be filled by young players.
What is wrong with you? This is a sports club. You treat it like its your government, which you should demand openness from. Its..a…game…that is a massive business. If he isn’t making money on this club, he will of course restrict his costs and expenditures and try to make it look better accounting-wise in order to sell it.
The only reason we went a step back last season was because the manager quit 5 days before the season started, then the next guy was shown the door..and because of the instability a bunch of players left…they need McLeish to provide stability.
Thats what you will soo…build from youth and what you have now, and add players to it to fill the big gaps, like Given, CNZ, Parker, etc…
Tell you what Geoff. This reasoning with the banners and molotove cocktail brigade is hard work.
Look Ted: we want to be successful. We want a great style of footie as we do so. We want to be financially stable, we want the perfect spiral of upward success to attract great players. So we win big things.
We get it. But we are where we are in comparison with the Big Guns and it has been so for many years. Let’s hope AM is better than we dread he might be and give him a chance. We need the discipline that’s for sure.
If we find Europe and win a cup will you then still be blaming Lerner? Who do you want? I mean look at the SHAmbles.
C’mon son – mature debate for once and stop yelling at us.
Selling Downing at 20m was a good deal. Esp if we get Nzogbia for half the price. We had no choice with Young and again we got a good deal. Im not worried about selling these players, I just hope we re-invest the money wisely.
You guys don’t have to worry about getting Barry Ferguson. Blackpool and Birmingham have agreed a fee for him.
With Downing, Villa offered him an improved contract, but he was advised not to signe it, that at least shows that Villa tried to keep him, also Downing handed in a transfer request. People are quick to blame the club and owner but if a player wants to go then 9 out of 10 time the player will go. We got 20m, hopefully NZ and given will come quickly and 2 to 3 more player and well be fine next year.
Bid has been rejected for n’zogbia and whelan has said they wont accept a penny less than £10million, so obviously we didn’t offer £10mil just hope Sunderland don’t come in now and offer £10million because Bruce will have more chance of getting him than McLeish will in a two horse race
If that’s true, give them 10mil and get on with it FFS
You gotta wonder what the bid was then. We had a 9m bid in just last month, and he wants 10m. So with an improved bid, what’d we go too? 9.5m?
It was reported that we offered 10M. Where are you getting this from? I cannot find it.
Couple people are mentioning SSN’s has said it, but I still can’t find it either.
when they said on SSN we had a bid rejected they also said chairman dave whelan said villa was just short of the asking price and wants no penny less than £10million :/
toffees to beat us to N’Zogbia? Fuck off
really ?
Did SSN just say a later bid, hardly beating us to him, lets not go OTT on everything eh ?
SSN say ‘Breaking news: Sky Sports sources understand Everton are attempting to beat Aston Villa to the signing of Charles N’Zogbia. More to follow…’
We have to get this guy.. Surprised Everton have atleast £10mill to blow on one player!
Oh bollocks…if Everton do beat us too it all I can say is ‘start the fans and launch the shit’…
*to it
This is outrageous. How can Everton & Sunderland beat us to this? And it always seems when its OUR turn to get OUR main target now that Given is halfway done, all of a sudden the press leaks a bunch of other names to help the agent or the club drive the bid up. I wouldn’t be surprised if the agent or the club LITERALLY write the articles and distribute them to the press via a PR firm…tahts how it works in all of the rest of the media these days.
A PR firm writes a story on the behest of a particular lobby group or company or organization and hands it out to media outlets who just change the name on the story and run it. Thats the main format today for the big news outlets.
So I really wouldn’t be surprised if that was the case…I think we still will get him…but It does looks like we are diddling with CNZ..
Totally agree with Ian on this. How can Warnock and Dunne be deemed part of the Villa’s future when Cuellar is not? Carlos is more than a match for either of them on the pitch but there is more to it than that.
Every fan I know has always looked upon Carlos as a proper Villa player. His attitude is first class and he always speaks about the club and the fans with fondness.
Warnock and Dunne are professional footballers who just happen to be plying their trade at the club we support. They play we pay; if there is an affinity there I’ve seen no sign of it.
