Whilst Sunderland have gone mad and Liverpool going mad for once we have stayed quiet the past week.
Think after the mad mad summer we needed a few days of calm and reflection and assess what is going on around the country and other teams. Prices have gone so crazy that sensible teams will wait and see what happens. Sensible teams will wait to see who is not required by clubs and who have to go because of the wage demands.
Sensible teams do not go headlong into a rush into a bubble market and pay at the very top of it, that is a lesson we have learned. However I can understand some fans impatience. Look at the squad and you can see concerns all over the place. Fans are worried the money may not be there and mixed messages coming out all over the place.
Given and N’Zogbia for a combined fee of £13m represents possible GREAT value but how much would we like James Milner back and a top centre back ? What is the ambition for Randy now and can McLeish deliver that ambition.
I would never say we are in better condition that some (ahem Blues) and that is good enough but this summer is going to be such a difficult one to compete in that the canny teams could be the ones to benefit the most.
It does feel to me that with the players returning next week that will really kick start everything.
BTW why is the backroom staff not been completed yet ?
