The last thing we need is yet another transfer saga and if he wants to go he showed at Middlesbrough he will do exactly what the Mirror have said to force a move. This of course would bring down the price as we do not have to pay out a loyalty bonus to him and thus can accept lower.
The reports seem to suggest we want £19m (£1m less then effing Jordan Henderson) but the dagger to the Villans hearts would be far far far more than that. Losing Young & Downing in the same window no matter how much deniers may say otherwise is a massive massive blow to the club’s heart and pride.
Of course this is all just paper speculation and until we get a definitive statement from Downing he is staying I am very very worried that we could basically lose all but one of our stars. What must Darren Bent think ?
Of course if they get Downing unlikely they need Adam and could come to us but give me Downing every single minute of every single game over Adam.

I don’t disagree that MON is/was a big name and I’m sure some player came because of MON.
When ever a club buys a injure player is a big risk, Paying 12 million for a injured player is a big risk and in this case it worked out, sometimes players can recover physically but not mentally.
true but it was really not that much of a risk was it in the face of competition from others, you see us now being able to get players instead of Spurs and Plop ?

Who cars whether Downing stays or gos!! I don’t think he is that Gud but wud rather have him than not simply because he is better than most of the dross we have left. Whatever happens we are midtable at best this season so in the grand scheme of things it’s not that important!!

Both players together were involved in 31 of 48 goals last season. Both were the leading players in terms of appearances, assists and besides Bent in terms of goals scored for our club.
If we loose Downing too, that would be a hammer blow. If that happens, we have to bring in adaquate replacements. Otherwise we will struggle once more.

the only way i would accept downing leaving in the same window as young is if the money for him was crazy, AND they put in a player who would be value to our first team.
i am not going to speculate on who that player would be as i have no interest in selling him. but that would be my ONLY scenario.
