Villa have just tweeted to say new sponsor at 22:45 tonight.
Since this Morning when Mat Kendrick tweeted that the new sponsor would be announced today with an international company with a local link the net has been alive with speculation. Later on he said ‘hedginghisbets’ indicating a betting company that led people to believe it is a gambling company.
So people have been guessing and many names mentioned but after Villa just tweeted such a strange time for the announcement you have to ask why at this time. My guess is that the name is out there and maybe even a paper was going to run with it later on tonight. Maybe it is to do with the time zone the new company is in.
However a name that has been mentioned is Genting.
You may not be aware of that name, I was not but they are a large Malaysian company who have a wide range of interests (go on google them) and they fit the multi international company Mat mentioned. However more important is that the local link is just 1 mile from Villa Park.
Circus Casino at Star City
and they want a ‘super casino’ at the NEC – LINK
EDIT 22:47 – Villa late as usual
It is GENTING – LINK value of deal not known yet and I hope we do not have the Chinese symbols

Aston Villa News 24/7
Good news about the sponsor, I like it…now for the bad news – you guys are gonna flip out…especially Ian
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2007059/Stewart-Downing-given-green-light-Liverpool-move.html?ito=feeds-newsxml
So the Mail says we will sell Downing and bring in N’Zogbia and some striker I have never heard of…
Not just me flip mate, how many really want Young AND downing to go in the same window, that would be a football disaster
I agree…but it looks like hes trying to raise more money than hes been given. He has a lot of buying to do because of the mass exodus.
Looks like without Downing now if that happens itll be N’Zogbia and Albrighton on the wings with backups yet to be determined. Bent and Gabby up front. Who knows with the keeper and backline – he will probably splurge on Foster. Dann is off to Stoke. Adam in the middle with Makoun holding. Ireland will probably stay to rebuild his market value because he has none right now.
Its a massive blow. It’ll be a miracle if they make the top 6. I still think without Young and Downing he can get enough in to beat out Everton and Newcastle, and perhaps Sunderland – who are splurging this summer
I wonder how much we will get from the sponsor?
He is gonna have to be at his very best, the manager, if he is going to last here. They simply must have a good start to the season.
anyone remember the days when we were one of only 2 club teams that had charities on their shirts? I felt really proud to be a villa fan. A new crest, MON at the helm, ACORNS on the shirt – heady days indeed. Fast forward 2/3 seasons and its genting f*cking casinos, the epitomy of corporate greed, and alex mccleish.
Congratulations randy, the transformation is complete.
we are now just another soul less mid table club. sad to see that we’ve reverted right back to the deadly doug days, when you think what could have been.
Most if not all loved the Acorns on the kits but we simply can’t afford not having a sponsor if we have any ambition at all. At least we’re still apart of Acorns and didn’t ditch them.
But that’s it Andrew, our ambition has gone…
How can you blame randy lerner when most of the money that comes into the club goes straight into the players pockets! if we want to be a bigger club we need to generate more income!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
we do and if this is £3m per year or more that helps a little but the real revenue gainer is CL football as simple as that and until we get that we will struggle and we are now prevented by the corrupt UEFA rules from taking a risk.
MON wasted far too much money on average players with BIG salaries! we are now paying the price, the fans need to show a bit of support as 1 full house last season was pathetic. UP THE VILLA…….
Here! Here! And we thought Randy was different…
Ian, I’m a Malaysian Villain & I have to say this is a fantastic move for Villa.
Genting is a global brand & Villa need to become globally recognised. Locally, Genting Highlands (its base in Malaysia) is a cross between Alton Towers & Las Vegas, it is widely known throughout SE Asia and is a massive resort complex with many Vegas style hotels.
More importantly Genting is the only place you can legally gamble in Malaysia so it has had a monopoly for decades giving it the platform for worldwide expansion.
I rarely miss a Villa game because the exposure on TV is so extensive in both Malaysia & SE Asia.
Having the Genting logo on the shirt in both English & Chinese is a very smart move.
I don’t know any local Villains in Malaysia but that could change with this deal especially if coupled with a successful season.
Strategically this is a very good forward thinking move, do you realise the global reach of Chinese speaking people exposed to the BPL? It is MILLION$$$$!
This is very good news for Villa.
Are you Paul faulkner in disguise ?

has anyone seen the value of this deal that is the ONLY thing that matters
Not the only thing Ian IMO. marketing in Asia will be massive now. huge revenue streams.
wrong as always
Everton had a far east sponsor for a few years, their revenues hardly budged, most of them over there only care for the ‘big teams’ and mainly just Man U and Liverpool buying hooky tops.
Chelsea tried it and just withdrew as the money is simply not there, a myth (except for TV rights)
You are a patronising pillock for a blog writer.
except I am right eh ?
is that the best reposte you have, any proof that this will increase far east sales ?
course not
We’ll see Ian, when it comes to being wrong you take the cake. Not 2 day ago you mad an arse of yourself over Bradley. then comparing lerner to Ellis. seriously those in glass houses and all that.
where is the proof that Everton’s deal garnered extra revenue from the far east over and obove the extra sponsorship ?
they may have done but hardly helping them is it ?
Where is the proof that they are not only stable because of this deal they could be screwed without it. stop speculating like you know its fact. i would have thought you would have learned by now.
Let’s be honest, we need to tap in to global markets if we are to achieve anything like the success some on here thing is owed to us somehow.
You complain that players are leaving, won’t renew contracts as we can’t afford them, then moan that we have a shirt sponsor.
On Downing, if you’d been told we’d get £19m back in the £12m paid on an injured after Wolves away, you’d have been institutionalised.
He’s come on a lot for that, but with only two years left on his contract, for me, £19m is just too good to turn down.
I’m still not fully convinced by him, thought he was made to look a lot better with the introduction of Walker into the team, who was another genuine attacking threat for defences to cope.
Downing made the most of the space that was created, he isn’t great at beating a man, nor does he work particularly hard, and never gets a foot in.
£19m ? Snap their hands off.
yes why not, Albrighton and Clark cost us nothing so if someone wants to spend £10m on each then wow £10m PROFIT lets do it
so much the Ellisian way of thinking it is scary
If Albrighton and Clark are worth £10m each and refuse to extend their contracts then yes, I would sell them.
I’d be interested to know what you do for a living, because you certainly cannot be in business or finance.
Maybe you don’t like it, but it’s the football of today. If you’d like the club to allow players to leave on frees each year instead of generating income to make our own purchases, then we’ll sooner be in a sorry mess than ever.
Answer this. Are Man U a selling club for allowing Beckham and Ronaldo to go ?
Just as an aside.
Is Carlos Cuellar good business ?
This ‘selling club’ paid £8m for him, played him in his preferred position occasionally, as a poor right sided full back a little more often, and he’s now possibly returning to his ‘selling club’ for £1.5m to play as centre half.
Shoudl we keep him and release him for nothing next Summer or offer him a new contract ?
think it is a total disgrace we would let Carlos go and it seems keep Dunne or Collins. Those two DISGRACED the colours they worse and Cuellar despite being treated totally un fairly is the one to be shipped out despite being a MODEL pro
I have supported Carlos since the start and I am disgusted we are looking to see, the cash situation must be REALLY bad.
He’s decent, no better than Collins, Dunne, or Clark. Maybe Dunne who I feel is a liability on and off the pitch nowadays.
We can’t get rid of Dunne because of the ridiculously high wages that he was enticed here with as a lastminute.mon signing.
We should be looking to bring in better players than all four of these if we are to rise in the table.
Clark I feel shows promise, and should see more game time this season. The other can go if replaced by younger better players.
Hey, Robo, how come you weren’t invited to the McLeech arse licking session with Fear? Ha ha ha!!!! Would have been nice of them to invite JPA and TED down!!!!!! Typical of this weak board we have.
They probably prefer reasoned discussion to imbecilic rantings.
Hardly qualifies you to formulate a structure to carry the club forward ‘within its means’ by posting constant negative drivel on a messageboard.
Don’t care mate about it, just one glorified PR exercise that told us nothing new and should a manager be telling a group of fans who he wants and does not want ?
No, I don’t think that we should.
In the same way that I didn’t feel that the Board should be telling us who they do and don’t want as our prospective manager.
Let’s be honest, to satisfy sensationalist sites like this, you pander to the current mood swing of the public opinion.
The Board are damned if they do and damned if they don’t looking at your logic. On many areas.
New players, releasing players, new manger updates, prospective signings of loaned players with/without the managers permission.
Take a third party view of your blog occasionally.
It is entertaining though.
As I’ve said a few times, great site lads, keep it up.
Thank God I don’t sit next to some of you lot at games though, I’d be under suicide watch lol !
actually I never called for the board to say anything until the AM thing came up and that needed a denial, of course we now know why we heard silence for a few days.
Certainly in a fans meeting we should not be told Dann is too expensive, Gardner wants to come back, Green not good enough but Johnson is.
Mad
I want to hear open apprasial of our ambitions and guess waht was so noticable by it’s absence,.
15m for danns! thats a joke he has 1 good season in a shit team.
Love the fact you’ve gone from having a HOSPICE as your sponsor, free of charge, for a few seasons, to now having a CASINO sponsoring your shirts.
If that’s not indicative of Villa’s changing objectives and outlook over the past few years, especially post-O’Neill, nothing is.
the deal could be worth up to £6m a year ….
laughing now ?
I’d have thought that being an Everton fan you would have appreciated the need to generate income as a football club.
The Acorns initiative is ongoing, the supporters clubs have adopted it as our charity, and millions have been raised, and will continue to be raised.
Thanks for your concern.
genting = the devil!
