HOULLIER – Enough is ENOUGH

Well Juan Pablo Anus has took a lot of his stick, here is his retort.

I have been challenged by the Gerard Houllier fan club to put my views across on him and how the club can go forward so here it is.

Houllier has been a dreadful appointment since day one for this club. Fair enough I did not want him as manager but I was prepared to give him a chance and If you can be bothered to check posts on here from October to the end of the year you will see I have argued with IanRobo to give the bloke a chance.

But almost from Day 1 it has gone wrong, his first day in the job he manages to put his foot in it claiming we are just a 7th – 12th place club, what sort of a message does that give out? Hardly the most inspiring words from a newly appointed gaffer. Is it just me or does any body else see the connection between introducing a new fitness regime with double sessions and the horrific run of injuries we had? Surely that is no coincidence. I agree that things needed to be changed from Timewarp O’Neill but surely as I keep being told Houllier is a football genius he should know such a drastic change 2 months in to the season was asking for disaster. Speaking of changes, his ridiculous ploy to get us playing 4-3-3 or is it 4-4-1-1 with Young as a supporting striker, it was obvious to everyone that it did not work and it only since we have reverted to a 4-4-2 or 4-5-1 with Young as a winger there has been a slight improvement, and as all you well informed people keep saying he
will want to play 4-3-3 next season so god help us.

I keep hearing how much of a genius he is the transfer market, sorry but he is not. I’m bored of repeating how his Liverpool signing were on the whole poor. Fair enough he got Bent, but come on when the board panic and offer you £20m+ to by a striker its not difficult is it to get a top player, and persuading him to come from such a glamorous club like Sunderland and offering him an extra £30k a week must have been difficult! Believe me he did not come here because of Houllier! Makoun looks lightweight and out of his depth, a few passes at Old Trafford does not make him a player. What about how poor he has been in every other game? Walker although good going forward, he is a defender who cannot defend, and as for Bradley he is just another Salifou (pointless addition to the wage bill). Finally on this subject, Robert Pires. The less said about him the better.

Now I get on to some the “highlights” of his reign on the pitch. Playing for a draw at home to Small Heath, struggling to see off Blackpools stiffs, a gutless defeat at Blackburn, the shambles at Liverpool both on and off the pitch, getting ripped apart by Spurs at home when they had 10 men for an hour, possibly one of the worst Villa performances ever at Man City and the way he crucified Lichaj after it, Sunderland at home, drawing 2-2 with Fulham at home with there great away record, surrendering at Man City in the cup then losing at Bolton and losing to Wolves for the first time in 31 years, and at Villa Park! I’ll admit we have had some ok results but these can not mask the failings that I have mentioned. Neither can finishing 9th, we have spent the whole season hovering around the relegation zone and although we finished in the top half we are still close the bottom end of the table on points. Blues going down and finishing above Wolves and WBA does not make a
successful season, they are our rivals only because of their location, they shouldn’t even be finishing anywhere near us points wise. Losing to them all in the space of 6 months is a disgrace.

The most important reason though to get rid of him is his health. He has a very serious condition and especially at his age it could prove to be fatal. Does the club want a manager to die in office, does Houllier have a death wish? He is almost a pensioner with 2 years left on his contract. Surely any body can see he is not the man for the future, if in 2 years time he has been kept on wont we be in the same mess needing a new gaffer, new players and more transition? Now is the time to act and get the right man in that can take us forward for years to come.

There are plenty of people available that would give their right arm to manage a club like the Villa; there are probably only 5 or 6 more desirable jobs in the country. People keep saying we are a big club, it’s about time we started acting like one. Lerner needs to show some serious ambition, ruffle a few feathers and go get the man he obviously wants which is Moyes. He is the right age and has all the attributes to take this forward and lead the club for years.

I know the Houllier fan club will have plenty of come backs and bring out “stats” to back him, blaming everybody except him and slate me for this. You asked for my opinion and you have got it.

  1. “It must just be a coincidence then that you always pop up when certain others are commenting.

Any way, the post has done the trick. Its wound up silly old fools like you and proved that the majority want Houllier Out!”

As I said before how do you know what my usual posting name is unless you are linked to this site or in fact ianrobo. It’s a fair question and I’m sure that the people who use this site would want to know that it is being run honestly?

“the post has done the trick”, so the article was written purely to wind people up? I thought the article was written to give an opinion/agenda. You’ve just shot yourself in the foot mate.

As for it proving that then majority of people want Houllier out, the last time I looked this blog had got 175 comments that’s hardly the majority of Villa fans is it?

Anyway isn’t it time for you to get ianrobo’s tea on, oh sorry you are ianrobo aren’t you, I forgot, silly me. ;)

  2. Lighten up son, you must somebody else on here because of how much it has upset you being accused of it!

How have I shot myself in the foot, i expressed my opinion, i knew it would wind a lot of sad fuckers up.

As for the majority, read what i said it was about the none existant support shown for Houllier at villa park.

    • The only name I post under is this one, unlike some JPA/ianrobo (which is is today?)and you still haven’t answered the question. ;)

      ANUS OUTED!!! ;)

  3. I can guarantee i am not IanRobo, we agree on one thing so obviously we are the same person. Just because he posted my article we must be the same person.

You cant even think of a decent name without using mine, says it all really

    • Oh dear I do hope I haven’t touched a nerve? ;)

Anyway it’s not a name it’s a statement but fairs fair I’ll change it if it bothers you.

      ANUS OUTED!!!

  4. This is boring. I made my point.

I’ll be back wednesday when hopefully Houllier is gone.

  5. Geez…this has gotten to the point of spamming. Almost every post is this guy flipping out about GH. I hope its a bot, because it would be sad if a real person spent all that time venting about GH.

If he does not manage next season, the club will keep him around in the front office because of his international contacts and scouting network. If Moyes does come on board, then he’d better stay for a while. They can afford a new manager but only if GH stays in the background. Otherwise that is simply too much change. Unless you have an insane transfer budget then most clubs cannot afford to go through two system changes in successive years and still have success. Moyes would be ideal because he would understand that he is part of a bigger plan and its not all about him. Houllier would still be at the club in some capacity. If GH does return as the manager, then good. Thats a bit of stability with a better system than MON’s. They need to become a passing club, who can move through the midfield with passing.

That is really what wins in today’s game as Barcelona proved yet again with their outstanding clinic at Wembley. GH has slowly started to improve the style of play, which is what this season was all about.

After MON left, the two main goals for this season were to stay up, and to improve the style of play over the dull chip and chase that most clubs play in England. Manchester United played too much of that in the Final and you saw the gulf in class. Swansea just got up by playing a more passing playing style, and look what Martinez has done at Wigan with no budget. He has survived yet again with the style of play.

  6. I totally agree with u Jpa, -I’m sure I have written pretty much the same on here before you did. The crux of the matter is would Houllier et al be in any sort of position to survive had we drawn with Liverpool finished 12th below Stoke and WBA and trophy winning Blues had stayed up?

You have it right, we must not judge ourselves by our local rivals, even in our darkest hour we finished above them. Even David o Leary managed that!

We need to look at the evidence, we were very close to going down, our best player is about to leave for the third year running, we are as far away from the Champs League as when Lerner turned up. Downing is non committal,we have a sick manager, the board continues to delay, and just too play devil’s advocate if Houllier wasn’t sick would Randy be so sympathetic after our third worst prem points total and worst ever defence?

Ps when MON first turned up he had hardly any pre-season, crap players and still got 50 points to Houlliers first season 48. After all if Houllier had a full pre season this wouldn’t have happened right?!?!

    • “The crux of the matter is would Houllier et al be in any sort of position to survive had we drawn with Liverpool finished 12th below Stoke and WBA and trophy winning Blues had stayed up?

You have it right, we must not judge ourselves by our local rivals”

You say we shouldn’t judge ourselves by our local rivals and yet you have done exactly the opposite in your first paragraph.

For the record we didn’t draw with Liverpool, Blues didn’t stay up and if my uncle had been born a woman she’d be my auntie!!!

As for Houllier having a full pre-season, why don’t we see what happens shall we? The jury is still out for me but I would prefer to give him the benefit of the doubt at the moment and support my team.

The season before last, Stewart Downing came to us injured and had no pre-season and I seem to remember a lot of fans being on his back becasue he was too slow and couldn’t cross or tackle.

Well guess what, the following season he had a full pre-season and correct me if I’m wrong, he was voted Player of the Season by his fellow players and the fans.

I’m not saying the same will happen with Houllier but my point is that a season is a very long time in football and I for one am willing to give him the chance……..at least until Christmas.

  7. This thread has proven to be a bit of a waste of time; JPA simply repeats his basic line without any acknowledgement that those who don’t share it have anything valid to say.
A few of us may share some of his specific criticisms of GH during the season just gone without subscribing to his view that we’d be better off with someone/anyone other than GH in charge.
It doesn’t have to come down to a simple choice of either ‘loving’ Houllier or wanting [say] Moyes to replace him; there’s a perfectly valid and reasonable position that says yes, he’s made some mistakes, but that you don’t chop managers just because it’s been a pretty duff season – especially as even Anus seems to concede that some change was inevitable, in that MON’s methods just weren’t tenable in the long run.
Ultimately though, all of our opinions are worth zilch: the club will make their announcement in the next week or so.

The big question then, at least for me, will be whether all the fans on here get behind the club after that decision, regardless of who is named in charge, or do we have to get used to a constant campaign of ‘so-and-so out’ just because some people think they know better?

    • Ardent, I’m about to renew my season ticket, I don’t expect top 4 finishes, I don’t expect FA Cup wins (a league cup semi would be great for me!), but I love that 90 minutes at a truly magnificent stadium, with some great banter, and thinking about nothing else for a short period of time.
My daughter will make her debut this August, and I can’t wait!
      Up The Villa.
      Romantic, maybe, realist, absolutely.

      • Sasa, hope your daughter gets the claret and blue habit as she grows up!

Like you, I don’t go into any new season expecting us to win a trophy, but I live in hope that we can suprise a few of the arrogant ‘top 4′ or ‘top 6′ who think that they’ve bought some permanent right to be where they are at the moment, and even perhaps that we pull-off a few real shock wins against them along the way and make people take our club seriously.

  8. The thread has become a bit of an albatross but Im a fan of JPA he makes this site tick !

  9. Aftet watching the champions league final I was absolutley gob smacked! The level of football was fantastic, the players were so determined. I not saying I expect villa to turn in to barcalona over night but seriously what is the point of playing if your not trying to win everything. Seriously what are we aiming to achieve? Call it living in the past but this club should be aiming for the top! Lerner has to realise his responsibilities as owner now. A brutal change has to be made now! Let’s not fucking pussy foot anymore. Is houllier the man? I don’t no maybe but I don’t think we should take the risk to find out. Get a good manager in asap! We paying fans want to see the ambition we would have if we owened, managed or played for villa. No games any more. If you don’t wana play the your out!

    • Barcelona were fantastic to watch, but there are a few in this community who describe even Arsenal as playing a “tippy-tappy” game that somehow isn’t ‘real’ football!

  10. [...] HOULLIER – Enough is ENOUGH Well Juan Pablo Anus has took a lot of his stick, here is his retort. [...] [...]

  11. Mat Kendrick is saying that GH has left by mutual consent!

In other news JPA was seen jumping for joy down Witton Lane :-)

  12. taxi for houlier HE HAS LEFT OUR CLUB…..

  13. The champagne is on ice.
