An old favourite of many transfer windows returns.
They reckon the Lyon midfielder signed by Houllier whilst at Lyon (see how easy this transfer lark is) is a £6m target
I think every transfer window someone has wanted him and every window at least one paper links us, at least this time they can claim some substance !!
Aston Villa News 24/7
Ian – what ‘substance’?
oh just that Houllier once signed him, thats enough to make the link for the press
He’s been around forever hasn’t he? Is he an attacking midfielder? To be honest I don’t even know what kind of players we need to sign in the summer, depends on Ash Young leaving (probably will), creative midfielder, another striker and a left back
But where does that leave the likes of Bannan, Delfouneso etc.?
I’ve heard people compare him a bit to Steve Staunton – basically has played anywhere on the left of midfield with supposedly very strong and accurate left foot.
Personally hope we can really get the best out of Bannan next season, although I don’t quite see where the Fonz will ever fir into the first-11?
ArdentVillain
If you pronounce Lyon as in Lyon’s Maid Golden Syrup, not as in the place or the name Leon, then if he signed for Villa, he’d be a Lion from…
…this isn’t really the substance you were looking for, is it ?
I think we may sign several players in the Summer, who they are, they don’t even know themselves yet.
Great site lads.
Oops, forgot, we’re talking about The Sun… the magic ‘substance’ must be some form of whacky-baccy; they’ll probably be telling us that Stephen Gerard’s coming too.
I have it from an ITK that Houllier intends watching Liverpool at least once before the end of the season, so you never know.
Well I won’t rule out any links this summer.
Michael Owen, Thierry Henry, Gary Cahill, James Milner,Benzema, Stephen Ireland staying, etc etc, nobody would really shock me anymore. We got Darren Bent, Kyle Walker and Jean II Makoun whilst in the relegation battle. In the summer, Houllier could pull off any deal and I wouldn’t be shocked!
This link has happened before and is too easy to think up, but if it’s true and GH wants him then bring him in!
Did you see Milner coming off the pitch at Anfield? Seeing that just made me wonder…
Come back home James, you know where you’re loved more than anywhere else.
I heard about it but I didn’t see it. What did he do?
Well he sure wasn’t happy about being substituted that’s for sure, shaking his head an all that, then as he got to the subs bench, tore off that black band thingy (whatever it was for), and threw it on the ground, looking pretty pissed off.
The commentators were even commenting on how uncharacteristic it was of him.
It just made me think, it’s not exactly working out for him there at the moment is it? A player like him needs to play week in week out…like what he did at his former employees.
Thanks mate, didn’t see that. To be honest I’m not one for banners, but on the final day against Liverpool I’m tempted to hang one in the North Stand:
“Dear Randy & Gerard,
Please bring James Milner back home!!”
He would definately come back now he has seen what it is like there, I’ve no doubt about it.
Now that’s a campaign I’ll fully get behind!
except the cost implications are enormous, yes we could sell Ash for around £15m but Man city brought Milner for £27m, would they drop that much ? (they could afford to)
then there are his wages
then you have to figure out how much money any manager would need to probably buy 6/7 players in
I’m all for the banner idea, worth a try :L
I remember him from back in the day on Championship Manager 03/04 lol. Decent player. Not sure if he plays in the hole though. That is the sort of Attacking Midfielder I’d imagine GH is planning to sign to replace Ash.
Always thought he was slightly overrated. Seems like he has been around forever but 28. Around the same age as Van der Vaart and a similar type player. As my Swedish friend has always told me his name is pronounced SHEEL-STROM
haha I remember a Swedish girl I know correcting me on how to pronounce Mellberg.
MYALL-BJORG?
I just stuck to Mellberg. See what u see as that Catchphrase old fart would say.
or even “Say what you see” hahaha
Ljungberg always sounded like Lunchbox
Not forgetting carew which in norway is pronounced COW REF. always made me chuckle
In fair of bursting the bubble… (and if anyone is interested)
Carew is pronounced Cahrev.
> Say Cah like the start of the word CAnoe (CAH-nu). rev like the start of REVenue. Then combine these to cahrev. And say it fast.
Mellberg is pronouced Mellbaerg.
> Mell is pronounced the same in swedish as in english. Baerg is like when the frence say merde (as in: f*ck). Its not pronounced ‘murd’ as what would seem natural if you just read it in english, they say “maerde”. Baerg is the same with a B in the beginning, a G instead of a D and without the E in the end. So you say: Mellf*ck…. ahh, sorry. Mellbaerg. Say it fast.
Kallstrom is pronounced Kchellstroem
> Kchell is the same as when you say the word gell. Notice the ch-sound that appears between G and E. Kchell = gell only with a K in the beginning. Stroem is the same as when you say drum. I was playing on the drum. Replace DR with STR without changing the ending of the word. Say: I was playing on the Strum. Kchell-stroem. Say it fast.
And…there you go
PS! To answer the MP. No, I would not want kallstrom at Villa. I think we can do better.
Hi Scandinavian – thanks for the education in pronunciation. We need a little more informed insight like yours on here and a lot less idiocy.
To return the favour … the French word merde translates as the Swedish word skit if I remember correctly from a discussion that took place at a bar in Brussels 25 years ago.
Tak sa mycket
Yes, merde is “sh*t” or “f*ck”. Not the acts, but the expression
Which would correctly be skit or fan in swedish (im norwegian though).
For further merdiness:

He’s a good player. Is playing for Lyon still, so he’s still match fit. He’s got a shot on him, could do something like what Petrov did or what Stankovic did v Schalke. Could be our Milner with his long range shots we so desperately miss.
We should get this chant going, “we want james milner back”
this is spot on mate and villaman 42 is right to. instead of the negative protests and banners we shoud do a positive 1, a BRING MILNER BACK campaign, banners, chants etc the lot. I think he’d come back for regular 1st team footie, he knows he’s loved here, and lets face it if any team can afford to take a loss on players its citeh, they will be taking a massive loss on players like adebayor, balotelli, and kompany this summer when the exodus starts.
Kompany’s not going to leave City, next to Vidic he’s been the 2nd best CB in the league. Plus, they could make a huge profit on him.
didnt mean kompany, meant boateng, he’s the one thats considerd a flop right? stop being so bloody picky you knew the point i was making! either way we should try and tempt milner back.
I like being picky. But yeah, Boateng’s been useless.
Does Houllier play Football Manager?
Lazy journalism MON at Celtic Houllier at Lyon blah blah blah YAWN.
Are we still in for Seb Larsonn?
Who knows? I do know that instead of Walker, Spurs are offering Villa Hutton.
as good as he looks at times walker looks better going 4ward than actually defending, what ive seen of hutton he looks like a good, proper right back, another good prospect, worth a punt i think.
Hutton is a good defender, Walker was caught short a couple of times on Sunday but once Collins spoke to him he seemed to get his positioning right.
I actually cant wait for the next transfer window if the last one is anything to go by, I am sure we will all be tutting cheering arguing and discussing as usual
We don’t need another MF unless Milner returns. I would love to see 433 with Milner and Bannon each side of Makoun with Albrighton and Downing up front with Bent. Failing that Ireland for Milner.
Houllier plays a 4-2-3-1 rather then a typical 4-3-3. So I’d imagine that if he came back then he would probably accompany Makoun and someone else (maybe Bannan) would play in the hole.
I got villa into the champions league in my first season on champ man! Maybe I should be considered for the hot seat if houllier gets the chop.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fZJ5_0M8gHs — I threw this together before he left, i’m all for the chants and banners, if it means being a step closser to get jimmy back then why not?
We’re again linked with Falcao. We’ve been watching him often, along with Arsenal and are again watching him in the Europa League. Would go for something like 15m+ which sadly gives us the advantage over Arsenal as Wenger doesn’t like paying that much.
Milner will have his pick of clubs if they decide to cash in. Think he could be had for less than £20m, but we wont necessarily be the most attractive option open to him.
I think the only reason he’d pick us is because we love him. You can go to any forum and you’ll see that and if he did come back he’d be cheered like there’s no tomorrow.
Probably won’t be the most attractive, but we have proven that even playing for us, he could stay in the England squad.
If anything played more for England whilst with us.
We want our Milner back!
