You’re welcome to Darren Bent – if we can replace him. He misses too many chances – missed at least 3 against Notts co in the cup. Our problem is that we have no other strikers currently as 2 of the 4 we have are injured. we will have none on the bench tomorrow.
Gyan is better then Bent in my honest opinion. Everyone thought Sunderland overpaid for him but he’s been a really bright player. Bent’s a good player but would cost to much for his overall talents. He’s quite lazy when he’s not taking a shot.

Bent misses too many chances. He still scored 8 in 19 in the league this season. He scored 24 in the league last season. Compare that to Gabby and Carew – a combined 0 in 17.

Anybody who believes what that fraud says is either very naive or very stupid. He is either so vague that his supposed itk info is useless or just repeats stuff that is already on the internet if people bothered to do some research. No truly big name striker is going to jump ship to a relegation battle with a team who will not pay big wages. I will continue to be realistic and only take notice when the official site confirms a signing.

It is very obvious that we won’t pay the £1o0k+ a week wages that someone so big that it would cause the forums to go into meltdown would demand as firstly we don’t have that level of ambition and secondly it would destroy any dressing room spirit if one person was on double the wages of the rest.
There are plenty of players on double or triple what others are on? Nothing usual there, how do you think Man U players feel now Rooney is on 200k a week? They seem to be handling it ok.

Not in the slightest. Clearly we were after a striker as we don’t have one worthy of the name. Bent is a good player and a good signing but nothing near the standard to send a board into meltdown. The guy is a fraud as he doesnt name names and you are the stupid one to hang on the fraud’s every word. If anyone actually does some research then he never comes up with anything new.
I am starting to believe it could be actually be Benzema for 20 miilion euros or so.
The vague information we have:
It is being done behind closed doors – Mourino would not want to sell him to any Championsleague clubs as it may come back to haunt him later in the competition. So Villa might be his only option.
Its a we mean business signing – Benzema would be the biggest signing in the clubs history and make Ashly and anyone else think Villa is on the up and therefore want to stay.
He knows Houllier and has a great deal of respect for him. Houllier could say join, if you perform well, a big club will come in for you and we will let you go – maybe a buyout clause in his contract? That way he gets first team football with his old mentor in the most high profile league in the world.
Real Madrid get there money back and don’t strengthen their rival in the Champions league like Man United or Chelsea.

I am with MJvilla, if this rumour should be right I think it could be Benzema. There were rumours before when somebody talked about he is a good friend of him and knows he want to come. I don´´t think we will buy him but it could be a loan deal but only if Real has catched an additional striker instead of him. Would be a great signing. Let us dream!
The rumor is we have made a ‘big money’ bid. Speculation is it could be Carrol or Bent but why would the selling clubs agree to keep the deal quiet? The Benzema situation is a special one and you could see why it would be kept quiet if Mourino has said he won’t let him go to another Champions League side. He obviously wouldn’t see us ascompetition whereas he would Spurs. Chelsea, Man U or Arsenal and even Man City and Liverpool.

A guy I know has genuine connections at Villa (not with the players).
This guy is not always right, though he is not a liar. In the recent past he correctly told me Heskey and Dunne were about to sign but he was equally adamant that a Scottish League goalkeeper (Gordon) and winger (McGeadie) were about to sign for us.
Anyway, I was told last week we were about to sign a striker from Man City. I am glad now I was not tempted make a big fuss about it on here, because now that RSC has gone to Blackburn it seems it is not going to materialise.

I’m not doubting your source, in fact rumours of approaches are quite often true. However, the speculation can sometimes continue to grow long after the deal is actually dead in the water; for the simple reason that a lot fewer itk people get to learn that negotiations have in fact ceased.

Good luck – hope it works out for you and Darren – he’s a nice guy and anyone would be tempted by an offer of doubling their wages. £18m – > £24m is a good deal for sunderland and thinking back to how we turned down big offers for Kevin Phillips and Kenwynne jones then later having to let them go for a lot less, it makes sense to me. But he needs to get back to scoring form. Only scored twice in the league since he got 2 vs manu is sept.
