Really hope this is not true from Lyoncapitale.fr.

This would be a HUGE blow if true
According to our information, while Jean Makoun was on the verge of leaving Lyon on Wednesday, the Cameroonians have finally decided to stay at Lyon until at least the end of the season (Article updated 18:30).
Would it still be a turnaround unique transfer market and his incredible antics? While the transfer of Jean II Makoun appeared to act, it seems that all is far from being tied. If Lyon and Aston Villa, as we announced on Wednesday , are agreed on the amount of the transaction, Cameroonian, he, according to our information, would no longer necessarily inclined to leave the club to that of Rhone the city of Birmingham. Indeed, the formation led by Gerard Houllier in the depths of the Premier League standings (18th), does not sport the same guarantees that Claude Puel.
Houllier ultimatum
On Thursday morning, the No. 17 OL took part in the training of the Olympians, normally. His teammates want him to stay. Like Aly Cissokho ” is both a good player and someone I like off the field. If we leave, he’ll miss the locker room. ” On Thursday e n early In the afternoon, the midfielder still hesitates and is thus still not party during this winter transfer window. By early evening, a pattern emerges: Jean Makoun no longer wishes to leave the ship Rhone.
Side of the two clubs are eagerly awaiting the decision of Jean Makoun. Gerard Houllier who wish to enroll, Claude Puel eagerly retain. General Gones coach said on Thursday noon press conference that the midfielder OL was not gone yet, “d like it to state things as they are effective . There are technical criteria, financial, human … We must take everything into consideration. ” He is even ready to play Saturday against Lorient: “j e see him if I feel it is operational, I do not see why one would miss of him. ” As for the Villans technician, he even set an ultimatum for Cameroonians to take a decision before Thursday early evening.
The situation on this issue this Thursday at 18:30:
- According to our information, Jean Makoun have decided to stay at Lyon until at least the end of the season. Contacted by Lyon Capital , Olivier Blanc, communications director of the OL, we stated that ” discussions were going well . ” Stay tuned …The situation on this issue this Thursday at 15h :
- Claude Puel and Bernard Lacombe, the two leaders of the sports sector at OL, want Jean Makoun remains between the Rhone and Saone. Given the many deadlines to come, the departure of former Lille leave a great void in midfield Rhone.- The club Lyon can not ignore the financial aspect. OL has received a sizeable (around 8 million euros) that Lyon can not refuse in the current state of things.
- The club Aston Villa wants a quick decision. An ultimatum was even set in midfield OL in the evening Thursday. For English training, the transfer was granted Wednesday.
- Finally, the principal party, Jean Makoun, has not yet decided. Cameroon still hesitates. Nothing is done yet.
And this from RMC Sport
While everything is set for Wednesday between Aston Villa and Lyon on the conditions of transfer of Jean II Makoun, for 6 million euros plus three bonus, the English club has still not reached an agreement with the player. The arrival of outsiders in this case has clearly pushed the situation and provoked the wrath of Gerard Houllier, who thought the matter settled. Negotiations are continuing on the basis of a three and a half years. All parties involved in this case hoping to find an agreement within the next few hours if Gerard Houllier will give priority to another player.
Just listened to Radio 5 and they are talking as if a done deal.
From France.FR a more positive spin on it
While the departure of Jean II Makoun to the Premier League and Aston Villa is imminent, Claude Puel has to deal with the presence of Cameroon in the group to prepare the reception of Lorient on Saturday at 21 am, in the framework of the 20th day of Ligue 1. Lyon coach has given the case of former Lille on the official website of the OL: “We know what John II brought to the collective. It was important, it is important. There are considerations clubs to be considered as financial ones. And I take them into consideration. For now, John II is not gone yet. If it is still there Saturday, I would see what state of mind, it is . I do not see why I should deprive him if he is well. He was always very straight and very reliable. If he leaves, he will not be replaced. “

Slight hold up, fee agreed. Down to personal terms. Villa confident it will go through. Probably not in time for the game
Aston Villa News 24/7
By what time does he have to sign and have a medical to be eligible for the Blues game?
think by noon saturday but frankly would not start him anyway, dragged on too long, too much going on his head …
starting to agree with that Ian. Think about the lads, been working on this game since Monday morning, suddenly Makoun comes in and goes straight into the middle of our plans, would disrupt the team a little so maybe not worth the risk? I would love to see Ireland replace Ash or Carew to start now.
as added to the main piece Mat Kendrick is not expecting teh deal before the Blues game …
finally can write my preview piece knowing who the players will be
villaman, he can’t start Carew, not for me anyway, Petrov was quite damning of him last week, more damage to be done bringing in someone like that than starting with an “unknown”, I go agree about Ireland though, he could, if he wanted it, make a difference.
I suppose it would make sense, give him a chance to know the players and their style. Can’t see Carew starting but I’d like to see Ireland get another chance as Houllier did say that he could feature in his plans.
I don’t see it fair for Ireland especially seeing as Pires is picked over him!
I reckon this i easy to pick
Brad
Cuellar
dunne
Clark
albrighton
Petrov
NRC
Downing
young
gabby
Albrighton being teh key for me now against shite Murphy
no young and why have u named brad cb
I would go for same but sub Walker for Brad at right back and put in either Ireland or Bannan for Young as he’s suspended!
durrr
walker of course
then swap Hogg for Young
Such knowledge!!
why would GH pick brad over walker at right back??
Young suspended isnt he?
Mat Kendrick:
“Just been assured Villa are still very hopeful of Makoun deal going through. No hitch, just resolving a few details. Fingers crossed .”

a bit off topic but do you guys think we should go for that Ba guy?
My team if Makoun doesn’t make it:
Friedel
Walker Cuellar Dunne Clark
Albrighton Reocoker Delph Petrov Downing
Gabby
Remember we will find out tommorow if Delph has made it.
But I would bring 2 people out from the cold back to the bench:
Marshall, Lichaj, Collins, Ireland, Bannan, Gardner, Carew, Fonz,
Confirmed – I am stupid and think you can name 8 players on a bench! LOL
Gardner and Wiemann both deserve a chance.
Houillier won’t play 3 defensive midfielders I reckon Bannan will play in place of Young. Oh and Walker right back. That looks like a good team to me. It would be nice if at some point we could play Makoun instead of Reo (I can’t pass more than 10 yards) Coker.
Because he shouldn’t have too. It’s not his job. Get to a player like Downing, Albrighton or even Petrov who can make wonderful passes…
It’s not his job? He’s a bloody professional footballer!
He is, but why should he have to pass more then 10 yards? He makes the simple pass because he’s not a great passer of the ball. Wouldn’t you rather see that then him wasting and losing the ball on every pass? I didn’t mean he shouldn’t have to pass, I meant longer then 10 yards.
Quite often he can’t manage the ten yard pass and unlike Barry or Milner, quite often he leaves Petrov stranded because he wants no responsibilty of a football and goes hiding. Not denying he has good qualities but the bloke is a professional footballer. It’s the opposite of someone like Downing – no-one is saying he should be as good as NRC off the ball but the bloke is still disgracefully cowardly. I don’t think it’s too much to ask that footballers who get paid obscene amounts of money have at least the adequacies of a decent Sunday morning player in all areas but unfortunately, it appears to be!
That’s not to say NRC goes hiding in matches per se, because he does have good off-the-ball qualities, just that it is at times like watching a child when we’re in possession. Anyway this is very off-topic, I could rant for hours about the modern day footballer!
Don’t disagree, he’s not the most talented, but there’s no reason to name him “can’t pass more then 10 yards”, if he has a hard time passing 10 yards, why want him to pass longer?
Very hopefull of makoun signing and it will be a great signing also.
Team to play VS blues:
Frediel
Walker Cuellar Dunne Warnock
Albrighton Makoun/Reo Petrov Downing
Agbonlahor Carew
Brad
Walker Collins Cuellar Clark
Downing Petrov Bannan Coker Albrighton
Gabby
Let Coker and Stan sheild Bannan to get more advanced.
Sasa C – a sensible looking team at last.
I can’t understand all these people calling for Ireland and/or Carew to play, neither of whom have shown the faintest sign of doing anything all season.
Ardent, I’m the same as you mate, love a bit of flair (Bannan can add that), add with pace and a bit of steel
Potentially we have a great midfielder in Bannan, he really can spray the ball, not many about like him, if we get a midfield to look after him we really do have a class act on our hands.
Sasa C- it’s the ‘steel’ that we’ve lacked for a long time; we have some players who do show flair when they’re allowed to, but too often our lot just won’t get stuck-in where it’ll hurt. Guess it’s part of the question “do you love the shirt enough to put some blood on it now and again?”
I know what you mean, I look at Stevie Me at Liverpool, see how he get’s stuck in, and I have to admire it, I think Albrighton has the same kind of fire in him, if he can control it, but it is great to see a tackle that matters, Laursen did it with aplomb to be fair, perhaps Makoun can be the one?
Laursen, and Mellberg too – but then you’d expect centre-halves to get a bit battered. It’s the likes of Petrov, NRC, even Downing, who could do with a bit more comittment when the going gets tough..!
spot on, Stan’s not the answer there!, I’d agree about Downing and NRC, when was the last time we had that in your opinion?
Platt never shirked a challenge that I remember, but post Prem League, who would you say did it best?
Sasa,
Dion Dublin [the guy literally broke his neck playing for us; Ian Taylor was another one who’d never back out of a confrontation…
yep, legend Taylor no doubt, and big Dion.
all the best.
I am getting tired of seeing Downing go into tackles constantly trying to shield his ankle. Need way more commitment from him
Agreed, Ireland is a nutter and Carew believes his own hype
Isn’t it fantastic to have some options though? Instead of facing every single game knowing our only choices for central midfield are Clark, Bannan and Hogg. What desperate days those were!
why are so many people latching onto carew. he hasnt played any football for weeks and will be totally unable to run. he cant run at the best of times. he was only ever, effective for us when he had a long run in the side and was reasonably match fit.
now he cant even be arsed to show up for training, has said he isnt fit and has shown complete disrespect for the club, himself, the manager and the fans – all when we needed him the most. he symbolises all that is wrong with the spice boys at the club – but has no issue at all in collecting 50 odd k a week whilst he is chilling out from clubbing whenever he gets the chance in london.
he doesnt deserve our attention. delfoneso has shown he is ready and if you saw how he played against arsenal reserves – he showed he is probably the most talented striker at the club. he was turning and powering past defenders for fun. for the last goal, he ran the full length of the pitch and still managed to square the ball for a weismann tap in. carew would have stopped and had to cough after 5 yards!
mr smoke – agree 100% about Carew, but not convinced by the Fonz [yet..]- he always reminds me of Darius Vassell at around the same age.
With you both, up to my hips with Carew, he might be big, but he has an attitude far worse than me and you.
sasa c – it’s not a song that’s going to catch on though mate
i best leave that then!
Wiemann looks good
Why do people see one comment and then automatically presume it isn’t going through.
Jean WAS in Birmingham today, and things are alot closer then presumed. As Matt Kendrick said a few niggley bits need ironing out but in terms of contract, fee’s etc this has all been agreed but for things to happen you need clearance.
wot source told mate
Someone on a rumour site posted that it was on the Lyon main website that he traveled to England today.
loving it sasa! top man.
in any other walk of life carew would have recieved a written warning!
ardent – vassell at one time was playing a run of games for england. remember his overhead kick goal against holland. delfoneso needs to play games but doesnt seem to get chances. id start him with gabby on sunday.
mr smoke, your memory is better than mine but what I remember most about DV is the massive sense of expectation he generated when he first started playing for Villa and the same again from England fans. He had pace and no mean skill, but often just seemed totally ‘alone’ on the pitch..somehow never quite on the same wavelength as the rest of his team..
[...] SPECULATION : Is Makoun to STAY with Lyon or a contract delay Really hope this is not true from Lyoncapitale.fr. [...] [...]
fair point. i think vassells issue was his lack of self belief. could have been a great striker but just lacked the minerals!
a bit like Luke Moore then,,?
Personally, I think he is more like Gabby. Gabby is turned 24 now and for a player who relies so much on pace the time for talking about potential is all but at an end.
By the start of next season (at almost 25) Gabby is probably going to be as good as he is ever going to get; whether ultimately that is anything better than Vassell was, remains to be seen.
UTV
To be fair guys i think makoun will be a really good signing only slight draw back is that his whole football education has been in france so he may need time to get suited to the prem also other than his 25 yarder against madrid i dont think ive ever heard him mentioned positivly and he got alot of stick when lyon started the season badly. I still think kranjcar should be a must along with samba but in no deal for collins he needs to stay hes a monster and a marque loan signing of a world class forward even on big wages just to make sure we pull away from the relegation zone.
His whole education was from Cameroon, he moved to France when he was 18 and got into the first team right away at Lille, didn’t go through their academy. But anyways, he has the physique for the EPL. And only for his goal against Madrid? He’s not a goal scorer, he won’t be brought in to score 10 goals a season. He’s being brought in to sure the midfield up so we don’t get dominated again. The guy is a mammoth, a beast. His tackling and strength alone is better then what Reo-Coker adds to the DM position.
By the way, while we’re looking at Lyon players. We should take a look at Pjanic.
Makoun …. Medical set for 3pm this afternoon !
Adam … Wants to come and his agent is talking to Oyston about the deal, bypassing the very mouthy Holloway !
Rodellaga… More likely than his colleague Figueroa … but this one could be a week away or so.
Good if these come off Nelson. Where do you get your info from?
Rodallega? Probably not with Boselli going to Genoa. They have a youngster and that’s about it besides him.
If all those deals work out plus Benzema ……. Me = Faint
Benzema though i thought our wage bill was higher than tottenham any idea what makoun is getting reckon sids was on 40 to 50 grand and if lazy boy carew goes that frees up another 50k we need daives beye guzan pires ireland(forgot he was still here) and carew off the clubs payroll just think its pitiful how much we will recoup for them and u have that smug s**t house oneill sitting with eamon holmes on morning tv in belfast laughing at how his terrible transfer sense has us loaded with overpaid expensive dead wood that people are offering 250k for 5 mill players
“Houillier won’t play 3 defensive midfielders I reckon Bannan will play in place of Young. Oh and Walker right back. That looks like a good team to me. It would be nice if at some point we could play Makoun instead of Reo (I can’t pass more than 10 yards) Coker.”
He can pass 10 yards or more(and less) but not guaranteed it will go to one of his team mates!!
and he looks like he will commit a foul everytime he goes for a tackle.
