Ireland to sit it out, Houllier confirms loan deals and wants a new keeper

With Villa and especially Houllier there is always something to be said about the club.

Three stories tonight worth commenting on

First The Mirror claim Ireland is prepared to to the bare necessary to pick up his wages and ‘sit it out’ and not be bullied into a move and lower wages, this could get nasty.

Second The Daily Mail report quotes that Houllier is looking for loan deals. They say without quotes

Gerard Houllier has admitted that Aston Villa are in the market for loan deals in the New Year as financial reality hits home at Villa Park.

But Houllier did say

Explaining his position when the window opens, Houllier said: ‘I am open to anything.’
‘However, generally it is not a good time to improve your squad.’

Oh dear, not the first time he has said this and could be reality but I NEVER like Loan deals, when MON did them with Kiraly and Bardsley, for a club our size you would end up with has beens or failures looking for one last desperate attempt to impress in the PL.

Third, The Mirror say that Houllier has confirmed interest in a new keeper, probably McGregor

“We are looking at goalkeepers, we have talked about it, but if Brad is fine in February we will keep him.”

Why the hell does he mean ‘If Brad is fine’ ?

why would he not be fine ?

Another player Houllier has fallen out with ?

  1. “Generally January is not a good time to improve the squad. Plus Stiliyan Petrov, Nigel Reo-Coker and Fabian Delph will be back. Loan signings? I am open to everything.”

Actual quotes from Houllier? he was specifically asked about loans, he ain’t exactly going to rule it out is he.

Actual quotes on Friedel “Obviously Brad is 39, so I need to look after the future.”

  2. I also agree with miffedvillan in regards to randy doing the club up and selling. I think he is making sure the youngsters get estabilished which creates great assests which have not cost anything Which will make the club more appealing to future buyers. He cannot be making that much money at the moment and after all he is a businessman and I think he is biding his time to sell on. I believe he intended to put villa in champions league but due to rise of man city and spurs this plan of revenue is now out of the question. So to make his money he will have to sell the club.if he cannot inveterate In transfers the club will slide which will harm his investment as vila may not be worth as much. As much as I love randy we need sum 1 with bags of money. As we are not a London based club which attracts players or can offer big wages we find it dilficult to recruit top players. This leaves it harder 4 us to compete (even with the likes of
fulham) and this is wh we need sum 1 which can invest in top young players. This would also allow us to loan out our talented young players like how man u have do with welbeck etc. I’d rather them play then be on the bench. I belive houllier was brought in to help usher In the change of approach with helping to develope the youngsters from the academy which randy has invested in. I believe Some of these players will make it and given time and a few extra faces villa will become great again. I think villa is and will be very appealing to buyers as we are big club, have great infrastructure with regards to youth system and great facilities. I want to take the time to say I believe In houll and that he is right man. If playerd aren’t happ. Then they should go and not rock the boat. Can you imagin be At work and telling your boss you don’t like his methods, you just wouldn’t do it. Players are have to much power and to much of an ego . Right I have a hangover and am off to find a cure . Sorry bout spelin but this was written on iphone

  3. I read all the sites trying to stay abreast of whats happening at VP, I must be mad i know. But this must be the worst Villa site of the lot always the glass is half full and anegayive approach. Ho well neve mind i am off to Bardados in a few hours!!!.

  4. Don’t just assume he has fallen out with Friedel and make him out to be the fucking bad guy again, Friedel has been suspect the last few weeks and thats obviously what it is, not another player rift as you so badly want it to be.

Loan deals aren’t always bad too, players like Fernando Gago are available on loan… if you think he is a “has been” or whatever you’re a tool.

  5. It’s nothing to do with falling out and Friedel has made that crystal clear in recent weeks. No doubt you have a theory that he made the interviews tied to a chair with a pistol aimed at his head.

Friedel is still a decent shot stopper but his problem with movement is getting worse; if for example a cross comes in, and the ball is then headed back across our goal, he is still rooted to his original position and the opposition are left with tap-ins. Whereas in the same situation, younger keepers scramble back across the goal-line to at least put-off the opposing striker.

He has cost us goals this season and he will cost us more. None of us like to face up to it but the reality is age gets the better of as all, and at 40 the decline at this level is rapid.

  6. well Houllier has said in today’s PC this according to WM

Gerard Houllier will decide on veteran Aston Villa keeper Brad Friedel’s future in February.

Which indicates he is not hopeful to me of getting his first choice

    and no MORE injuries, waheyyyy

  7. Critics on Friedel are rather unfair. He still is very reliable and his amount of mistakes is one of the fewest in the whole league. Yes, we have to look for a long term replacement, but he has 1 1/2 years in him. We have other positions in our team who need new players more urgently. Goalkeeper is no priority. We shouldn´´t change our team completely. Take it step by step. Would think that 2-3 new players in January would do us good. And a proven goalscorer must be a prime target.

  8. Nobody is on about him making mistakes. And his experience means in many situations he is sill a good keeper but at times his movement across the ground is almost non existent; and it’s going to get worse.

And this consecutive PL games record is affecting him and putting pressure on the manager to pick him. On a few occasions last season, he should have been rested and particularly in the early stages of the Cups Guzan did enough to deserve a chance in the League.

Because we aren’t challenging, I really don’t mind if GH doesn’t sign a new keeper in January but I won’t be crying ‘it’s unfair to poor Brad’ if he does.

  9. EXCLUSIVE!

    ianrobo in Houllier attack shocker!!!
