As long as they get a good price for Ireland then no harm done, Gerard should sign a few (3 or 4) players if so. It sounds like they’re already planning on which players to get, way in advance. I don’t expect big money to be throw around though.
Houllier said he doesn’t want a striker in January and that Stephen Ireland will not be moving on in January either. Both stories are rubbish. And for the people of Birmingham, look out your windows! This snow is apparantly going to get much much worse and last for the next few days. Postpone the match Chris Foyd, please!

However, and I think you already know my views on this Ian, Faulkner should never have agreed/allowed the Milner deal to go through with Stephen being part of the deal, not while we were in between managers. Signing players is a managers job, not something that should be down to a CEO. We should have told the Manchester City hierarchy, ‘Sorry lads, its 26m straight cash for Milly, or no deal’.
Bringing Stephen in at that time was a huge gamble, as is now being proven. Who could say that any new manager would rate him, and wouldn’t have preferred the extra 8m quid to spend?
I hope though that now he’s here, we give him the time to adjust, settle in, and get his career back on track.
He’s quality, and that is a commodity that is in relative short supply at Brummagem B6 right now.

Agree 100%. Ireland was top young player in Prem 18months ago. Seems he is ‘high maintenance’ but give him time to settle – then make a judgement. There is so much instability around the club it is probably not surprising he is finding it hard to settle. You know if we sell him in a year he will be star player somewhere else and we will be kicking ourselves.
I’ve never rated Keane and I never will.
sell ireland. This is probably the reason why MON resigned. He was forced to take Ireland as part of the Milner deal. In what i have seen so far, he has performed poorly. he has no defensive qualities at all. he tries to get the ball back by half heartedly making tackles. Get him out of the club. Bannan is so much better then him.

Ireland’s got quality and Houllier has vowed to get him to play like he did at City. Give him time, he was forced out of the only club he’s been at and loved but was forced out.

Ireland can’t head the ball, can’t tackle, can’t finish 90 minutes of football, can’t win in any of the matches he has played for Villa.

Was Berbatov a hit in his first season for ManUre? Was Tevez a hit in his first season for WestSpam? There are several other examples when very good players could not accomodate after their transfer. 3 or 4 months are not good enough, give him time until the end of the season.
He seems to be flop until now, but we will see, if he is top at the end of the season.
Ireland is a funny boy, weird in the head, we haven’t time to wait for him to decide he can play well again. He may well come good in 12 months but we havent the set up to accomodate that. We arent a Man U, Chelsea or Spurs team who can fade someone like that into the background until they come good again.
Stephen Ireland should be given a fair chance. How can we judge anyone when they have been given so little game time. He’s only been a VP a wet day and some expect him to play like Messi. After the debacle at VP last week Ireland looked ok when he came on. The team last Sat had rabbit in the headlight problem. As a villa fan for over 40 years last week was the first time I felt embarrassed watching them. The first half display was abysmal.

The question is: is Ireland rated by GH. I don´t think so. Pires was starting against Arsenal and Ireland on the bench. No clearer proof was required. So, I wouldn´t be surprised if we loose him. I would give him a full season. I believe he will improve.
