Well look like the Daily Mail have jumped the gun and proclaimd Gerard Houllier as the new Villa manager
Makes total sense so much so I had £10 at 10-1 last night
PL experience that Faulkner said, Randy went to Paris and he has a record of winning things abiet on one season 2000-1 10 seasons ago !
OK put this on the line, I do not want him, at 62 he is not the future and whether as a Director of Football which has never worked in English football or as a manager. Now I will support him, I do wish him well but I fear this appointment will be bad for us and no point me trying to dress up how I feel for the fear of being called ‘negative’.
So if he comes what could we get, a manager whose transfer record is poor
Poor all round, £25m on Cisse and Heskey ??? A few good signing like Riise but overall very underwhelming.
A manager whose tactics were defined as negative, a manager who the Liverpool fans wanted out and claimed he never played the kids from the reserves.
So it has took Randy 4 weeks to get an out of work manager who has not had a job for three years, well lets say I am bloody underwhelmed at that, Houllier is no Mike Holmgren !
HOWEVER I should not need to type this I hope Randy and Houllier prove me wrong and we go on to have great success.
EDIT 00:23 – The guardian reporting that it is Houllier and Kevin MacDonald as coach, exactly what Graham Taylor said it should be, so it was Taylor advising Randy and not Klinnsman. Again appears the cheaper option to me and a massive risk by Randy.
Aston Villa News 24/7
dude he sold heskey as well so he realised he wasnt any good, and i agree i hate heskey but he scored like 15 goals under houllier thats a miracle haha
It’s the future structure of football management. If the articles are accurate it will see Villa take international scouting seriously for the very first time, as well as employing a top notch team of hands on coaches, led by KM, that are solely focused on getting the best out of the team. Although not new internationally it is still regarded as an innovative structure for the British game so why shouldn’t Aston Villa Football Club take a leadership role in the game and encourage positive change. We all want Lerner to show his character as a business owner. Whatever decision he makes I hope that in a few weeks, months and years we will all by marvelling at the outcomes brought about by those decisions.
Of course, it could all just be yet more press speculation and/or a smoke screen from the club hiding what they are really up to. Only time will tell. Fortunately that time shouldn’t be too far away – checking news now etc every few hours has shot my productivity to pieces!!
surely it is the best use of a talented and long-serving employee and one of Europe’s most experienced and successful football men?
To give MacDonald the job outright would have been naive, but to have him be assisted by a Director of Football to do the dull stuff (contracts, recruitment, bits of media work and strategy)… it seems a progressive decision.
Pathetic. Just about sums up the club at the moment
i think this could be a good thing, km knows the club inside out and will be able to give the players in the resas etc a good crack as well as the players who are there. he also has houllier there to pick his brain tacticclly and to to support with looking wider than englan & scotland for players. I would be interested to see who many of you acctually want because alott of the names like hiddink are pure fantasy.
A director of football has never worked. Also what is to say that the two of them can work together? Such a stupid idea
Ian, you are such a drama queen, Houllier will be twice the ex-manager… cos he was a useless wanker.
Well, if this is true, I suppose it ticks all of Randy’s boxes: manager with Prem and european experience who has won trophies; a leading role for Kev Mac; the introduction of a new team management structure at the club. The most interesting aspect is Houllier’s links to the Clairefontaine football academy. Can we expect to see a few young, French-speaking academy graduates hanging round Villa Park ? And if they’re in the same mould as Henry, Anelka, and Gallas, are we gonna complain ? Might just be an inspired appointment.
Good points except for one thing, if they are in the same mould as Henry, Anelka and Gallas we won’t need to complain because they’ll do all the complaining instead
Houllier in his six years at Liverpool has a better win rate than any villa manager in the 20th or 21st century, some of you need to do your home work before writing things off before they have even happened. How does anyone stand a chance at our beloved club with some of the arm chair managers that call them selves supporters, GET REAL
honestly – Here Here
It’s just the asshole with their heads up the ex-wankers arse.. O’Schpiell was never that good and sign 90% shite.
Apologies for the terrible grammar and spelling above!
Honestly – Well said. It always suprises me the thousands of people who comment on these blogs, forums etc an hour before, during and after the game moaning about the players, maneger and performance when you dont go the games and pay your way. Before people start I accept if you live abroad you cant and i know about money, i have a family myself but when you see the club doing everton tickets/rapid £10 and chelsea for £15 there is no excuse !!!!!. Somebody i worked with was slagging houlier about the treble he won saying it was a poor mans treble – it summed it up for me, we need to get out of this ”we won the european cup” mode it was 28 years ago!!! We would give anything for that treble he won. Who ever gets it lets get behind them and the club and stop moaning FFS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Having thought about the potential dual appointment of Houllier and Kmac as a Director of Football and 1st Team Coach pairing, I quite like the idea.
Houllier is undoubtedly an experienced and knowledgeable tactician and I seem to recall the Liverpool team under him playing incisive efficient football admittedly not as exciting as the current Barcelona team but certainly better than the current Liverpool team. He has won cups in the Premier League and with only 3 clubs winning the League in the last however many years he came closer than most. He has also won in Europe, the UEFA cup outright and lets not forget the Pool team from Istanbul was his team. He also has that Clairefontaine experience, know how and contact pool. My issue remains with his health and age affecting his motivation but I am more than willing to give him the benefit of the doubt on that. I think if we can get away from the system where if your manager walks so do your whole coaching team as with MON it will be an excellent thing.
Kmac knows these players like the back of his hand and from his work knows how to coach a winning side as we can see form his work with the reserves. He has shown tactical naivety in his stint at the top and I think he would be the first to admit that but I would hope those would be the mistakes that Houllier would catch.
Set up a proper scouting and coaching system, a proper system of buying players that just does not take into account one man’s opinion as with MON, who went on then to ignore his own opinion but that is a different argument that has been done to death, and I think it could work. It works in every other league lets try it, and as with Dr. Jo blaze a trail. I know Dr. Jo didn’t work but that doesn’t mean we should be scared to try new things. Go for it I say.
I do worry that the Roy Evans/Houllier thing went south very quickly and would just urge Randy to make absolutely sure they can work together but apart form that. Yup, I am in.
You are a nagative idiot, poor transfer record?the guy won three trophys in one easo at liverpool, you would take that in a heartbeat at villa wouldn`t you. What the fuck has o`neill ever won,a league cup wit leicster donkeys years ago.Houllier would be a massive step up.No thanks?
Look at the dodgy signings are you serious you have seen the our squad and the millions squandered for below par players which were never even used!
I for one like the idea experience and contacts from houllier while we have Kmac bringing on the youngsters and coaching a side he knows like the back of his own hand. This does not sound like the failed set up of the past where the football director has little to do with selection or match day. Instead a situation which would seem to work to the strengths of each.
Hopefully he would get rid of Bloody Heskey that is worth the vote at least!!!
never mind all our moaning and saying No this is our next managerial pairing
Sky 8 55 pm 3/9/10
Its a done deal !!
How can any body be happy with this stupid D of F and head coach set-up? Have Houllier and MacDonald ever met?! How do we know if they can work together?
This is a load of bollocks. Lerner you a prick and have no clue about football. Stick to the NFL becuase you wont achieve anything here with these shit ideas
recipe for a 2nd rate load of shite as Houllier plays shite football !! Loser
Noooooooooooooo
