Koeman, Sven, Curbs, Zola, Houllier, McLeish, what a depressing list

OK you know I am a big MON fan and always will be but he has gone so you would hope he would be replaced by someone better. After all those who called for MON to leave way before he did often claimed if he did we would be bowled over in the list of so called quality managers beating a path to Randy’s door ?

Well these names are just some linked heavily the past 2/3 days from various sources and ignores Moyes as the noises for him seems to have disappeared. All the people listed in the title of this post and frankly all of them bar one have failed in recent jobs, all but one has not been sacked from their last job and you are only as good as your recent record.

Does that mean the best of this bunch is McLeish, was anyone really wanting him after he suffered 4 derby defeats on a row, did he strike you then as a manager to replace MON ?

Maybe the list is so poor that Randy can announce his real first choice of KM (rumoured) and we all go

PHEEWWWWWW !!!!

at least it is none of them.

From the beginning of the week when you could believe we may get quality like David Moyes to Thursday and you are grateful for KM, then the PR from Villa has been stunning

Depressed by it tonight.

  1. yeah right I can see the sun headline now

‘Ian says the shortlist is abysmal’ wow, earth shattering stuff

  2. what are peoples views on stuart pierce?? i know he hasn’t been linked to us at all.. but he fits the criteria and i think hed do a good job. I think the press are just spitting out the obvious names when in all fairness they really know as much as us. so what would people think of the phsyco???

  3. What a depressing list? What a depressing post…

  4. Hey guys, if I read your blogs it´s easy to be the new manager and satisfying you:

    1. Rotate the squad – that´s one of the main thing, even if it means to bench some better players. But rotation is the name of the game.

    2. In saying that, give the youngsters a chance, equal if they are played out of the park like Clarke was done by Carroll.

    3. Don´t buy new players, it could be to risky and too expensive for our Chairman. And if you buy and they are not good enough, then play them because of squad rotation and maybe you could sell them.

    4) At the same time reduce the wage bill.

Sorry, a lot of you are speaking like businessmen and not fans. Obviously, results are not so important. For me it is. Judge somebody on results and maybe level of entertainment. If a managers plays with 11 kids or 11 players 35+ isn´t the main thing, as long as he delivers good results.

  5. That one year rolling contract busines always concerned me??

Only 2 people know the real reason why MON left and thats MON and Paul Faulkner. Everyone else can keep guessing. Love him or hate him there is not an available manager out there that can do the job better than MON.

  6. I’m sure most of us loved MON but to leave when he did was done to cause greatest impact. He ripped the heart out of the coaching staff and that is unforgivable. I believe KM still has a lot to offer the club, but not as manager. Finally, I just can’t believe that Randy and the gang feel that’s it somehow unethical to try to sign a manager who is already in a job. Has he never headhunted in business?

    • good point M5 BUT the press have overplayed the G’ comments, he said it as a fan not as a board member he made that clear

      though the link is obvious

    • If he took a manager from another club whos to know that guy wouldn shit on us and jump ship again. I actually agree with what Randy is saying and doing, i’m glad he’s taking his time finding a new manager. One thing’s for sure with Randy, he knows how to do business.

  7. JOTY, I fail to see one candidate who will satisfy everyone

so we know Randy was in Paris today,

some think we may see an announcement tomorrow ?

    who ?

got to be Houllier for me

  8. I cannot get excited about any of the names that are being linked with us. If I am pushed I would go for Sven……. But I still would need to be convinced.

  9. If it’s an unavailable Manager, then it would be Martin Jol. He looks as if he demands respect.

  10. Ian, look at the level of ambition in this search. And look at the poor communication. If Randy is ambitious, he will get a good man. That could cost some compensation, maybe. But if he really wants it he could do it. General said, money is there, so we have to invest a part of it in our new manager. The problem is, you will get only a good one if you can proof him that your ambitious. And that will be the main problem.

And the level of communication from our club is rediculous poor: KM will consider, not consider if he wants the job, we are interviewing some managers with some EPL experience or not.

Tell us, KM is doing this job till mid October and we will have a new manager then. This would be a clear massage. Or we are trying out KM till mid October and judge him then.
    It anger´s us! Change it!

  11. Not only is it a depressing list, but it is a disgraceful list. We were assured by those who hated MON that there would be a long queue of quality managers wanting the Villa job. Where are they? Lerner should be on his knees begging MON to come back, but as that is unlikely the only real alternative that is available is Sven. So stop f*cking about Lerner, and give the bloke the job, as you should have done two weeks ago before the window shut.

    • Okay, MON walked out at the worst time, intentionally I might add. Why would RL beg someone like that to come? Agree with you about Sven though.

    • as you know Wurzel that is my point on Vital and look at how they have reacted, they are on the defensive about this lack of quality, quite funny because I am sure some said Hiddink would take the job !

    • I can’t help but feel that there was a communication breakdown between MON and Lerner. MON is a hot headed person and Lerner has other sports and business interests away from Villa Park. It’s a shame they couldn’t have sorted this out, as I would have prefered to see MON still on the touchline every saturday.

  12. Houllier from that list anyday of the week.. Would get carew/ heskey linking properly with gabby

  13. JOTY, pot on but we will have a new manager by Stoke and I doubt it will be KM

  14. TBH Ian, I am taking a break from Vital, I read it but it is much better for my blood pressure not to post!! LOL.

  15. Ian, you told us we need a manager on his peak, like Taylor at his first Villa spell. Do you really think Houllier is at his peak?

    • nope Joty, clearly not but Jol, Moyes and yes McClaren are, be nasty, offer the cash and get them, other clubs do it.

Wurzel, it is funny to see how they are squirming away from their stances of 6 months ago

UNLESS we get a stellar name when they would be right

  16. Sorry, I meant Rob jones.

  17. Wurzel – do u find Vital a bit too up Lerner’s arse? I do for sure…

    • Well, I do think there is cause to question the owner.Vital is like any forum, there are those that agree with you and those that don’t. I will say that although the modding is great on there, there is a bias toward the owner among the mods. And as for the Generals posts they are clearly just a PR line for the owner. I love the way the General slags fans off, and then claims he hasn’t.

  18. “IS that the same Houllier who swapped BAros for Carew ?”

Ok…. MON signed Harewood. Bad manager.

Fergie signed Djemba Djemba. Bad manager.

    Mourinho signed Shevchenko. Bad manager.

Yes, i’m being pedantic… But I think Houllier’s list of trophies won should allow people to overlook 1 deal.

Although admittedly, it was a terrible deal for Lyon!! :)

  19. Danny every manager makes bad signings but the good ones judge you and somehow MON connected with Carew in a way Houllier could never and we need Carew

Houllier at Liverpool, check who he brought

    very poor

  20. Could be worst. MON’s name could be on there!
