SPECULATION – Mirror Claims interviews at London Hotel and Curbs top of the list

The Mirror has the Curbishley news that Dave Woodhall posted as per my previous post but they follow it up with the news Randy has held interviews in London.

LINK

US businessman Lerner spent three days holed up at a London hotel with Villa chief executive Paul Faulkner interviewing candidates.

However ‘TheTrees’ on VT did claim he had flown in from Corsica a claim I believe

They go to London because it is a big bowl and the largehotels are uite used to holding secret meetings away the photographers and journos.

Also easy for people from abroad to fly into !

  1. It says “his hopes of getting the Villa job were boosted by having talks with…”

That is a bit like saying my hopes of getting the next job I apply to have been boosted by getting an interview, it does not mean I am top of the list, nor does it mean I am going to get the job.

He had an interview so what? Kev Mac will have an interview but I think we all know he will not get the job.

  2. Again… I am free. I don’t have a job at the moment. I’m playing Fifa and FootballManager, come on :)

  3. I dont see the problem with Curbishley, he did wonders at Charlton signing the likes of Darren Bent for small transfers and promoted Scott Parker and Lee Bowyer through the youth ranks

He had loads of injuries at West Ham but still got them in the top 10, he brought Parker and Craig Bellamy to West Ham so has a history of buying good players.

  4. What Balti Pie of Doom said.

  5. Funny just 24 hrs ago the mirror had moyes as the man.

  6. I do have a question though. Seeing MacDonald has thrown his hat into the ring for the job, is he going to leave Villa if he doesn’t get it because he’ll be unhappy?

  7. I have heard by a secret source it is going to be Klinsmann. We will have to wait and see dont care aslong as its not Alex Bluenose Macleish.I would give it to Kev Macdonald he been there 15 years knows all the players well so why not let him have a crack. The only problem then though is will he attract the big names ?

  8. Moyes would be the man but we ain’t gonna get him. The General has stated we will not be going after a manager who is with another club – and we shouldn’t be after a manager that would desert his current club as he wouldn’t be the most honourable person (paraphrasing and personal interpretation!), is this just spin regarding who we are going for????. Could it be someone like Curbishley? There seem to be a lot of limitations regarding the criteria for the next manager – I have never heard anything of the like before in football….

  9. I’d prefer MacDonald to buy some quality youngsters over “big names”. Even with O’Neill we failed to get big named players from “big clubs” other then Carew. We’re not in the title hunt so why not find some quality youngsters, develop them and fight for it in a few seasons seeing we don’t have the 100m it’d take to become a title challenging club.

  10. Tony, the General made it clear he was speaking as a fan and not a board member. Whether you believe that is up to you

whether you believe it was a smokescreen is up to you

  11. Ian

I agree with you this is what the G man states – however – I can’t help feeling that this is – as several people have already stated in the past on this forum – part of the current PR. Which by the way I don’t necessarily think is a bad thing – The General acting as a sort of middle man regarding communication. However, at the heart of it all I think we must be pretty naive to ignore the fact he is a board member – and that will always be the case whatever the comments he makes. But -you are correct it is personal choice what to accept – in truth none of us know for sure.

  12. i hope we dont get curbishley as our next manager, that would be a backward step in terms of where we want to be.i dont rate curbishley and he will only take us down.his been out of a job for a few years and no other club has given him a route back into management because his not a premier league manager anymore.i’d like to see ronald koeman or jurgen klinsmann for the job.

  13. We can go for Amdy Faye… He’s a free agent now. lol

  14. I imagine that the General’s next blog will stipulate that the new manager must be within certain height and hair colouring parameters. What a load of crap that we can’t consider a manager currently working for another club! Isn’t it a fact of life that people move from job to job during their working lives? Funnily enough, didn’t the Cleveland Browns recently go through a simarlarly prolonged exercise to find a new coach?

    • not really, Randy identified early on he wanted Holmgren but took some persuassion to get him. Over there, they have to shortlist and thus extends the whole process.

Over here, nothing from stopping him appointing someone without a shortlist but simply not used to that

  15. What a joke. The fact that we are even considering Curbishley is a farce. Shows we have no ambition and are willing to settle for second rate shite. No way is he good enough to manage the Villa

  16. RANDY LEANER DOES NOT KNOW WHO HE WANTS AS VILLA MANAGER.

I AM THINKING OF GIVEN MY SEASON TICKET BACK.

ALSO THINKING OF PUTTING MY NAME IN THE HAT

    • I dont think you will be only one considering doing that at the momemt.

They appoint a twat like Curbishley and there will be a queue from the ticket office to the Holte End wanting to return them.

  17. The fact they have interviewed him is a liberty.

The board needs to stop showing us up.

I swear if they appoint curbishley i will not be going and thats a fact!!!

  18. rumours around that it is Houllier and could be announced this afternoon

  19. The board are proving themselvs to be a bunch of clueless morons who have no clue about football. Curbishley gets the job and a Lerner out campaign should begin.
