SPECULATION : KLINSMANN top of Wish List and Bouma to Wigan

Daily Mirror claim Jurgen is at the top of Villa’s wish list

LINK

they have reproduced some very interesting quotes from Jurgen

He said recently: “The next opportunity I take on must have an environment where I feel really happy. I want to work with people that do it for the right reasons.

“I want to fit into an environment that kind of shares my philosophy, and my philosophy is an attacking style of football.

Now Dave Woodhall on the ITK post from last night claimed we have to get someone who fits the Villa way. As Randy and Klinsmann are known to be friends then it is clear Jurgen is after a job which is right for him.

Villa under Randy ?

Maybe that is why Young and Gabby have come our with recent positive statements ?

The Mirror also claim that Wilfred Bouma is wanted by Wigan after training with PSV

  1. Bouma should be signing for PSV any day now that Salcido was sold. That was the whole reason he didn’t get a contract.

Again, I don’t believe what any of the papers say. I’m still going with a manager we’ve heard from ITK people. Koeman is probably topping the list.

    • I agree Andrew, klinsmann would be nice. But so would koeman. I do think we need someone who plays the right kind of football. But of equal importance we need someone who has contacts. Out of the two Koeman has more experience. To be honest either of them would make me happy. Big names and I think the players would respond.

What does every body else think if you had the choice of both?

      • If Lerner is being straight when he says he only wants the best man for the job he can only have one name on his list. This guy has had success with every team hes coached. On more than one occasion hes picked up a declining, second rate team and transformed them into serious champions league challengers within one year. On two seperate occasions hes been voted “best coach in the world” While at Bayern Munich he was voted “best coach ever in the history of Bayern. Hes won the champions league with two different clubs and hes won the league title with every team hes coached. This guy is the elite, the best of the best & IF Villa landed him they would be european champions within 2 years….guaranteed. The man you need is “The General” Otram Hitzfeld.

  2. I know what’s been said and have seen what Koeman has does, but he seems to really want it, and that’s the main thing. I don’t want a manager that just wants a job or is desperate for one, managers that want the job because of who we are will make us better off.

  3. lol at both of those names, what a waste of time either would be as they have failed more than once already. We need a proven top name or we should back Macdonald as none of these names you mention will be any good. have you not thought why no other club wants them? and they are touting for jobs? I would be really disappointed with either.

  4. Klinsmann is more likely to be the next coach of the U.S. team. He met with the head of our federation yesterday:

  5. You want a proven top name? None of them are going to come. You have to realize by now that even with how persuasive Lerner is, we’re not a “big enough” club to get big named managers. Be happy with who we get. I wouldn’t pay compensation for any of the managers named around like Jol either.

  6. All managers fail, no manager has a perfect record, it’s finding the right man for the right time. Just like a team it’s not about the best players it’s about the best team.

So the question is who is right for us now? Who can steady the ship and help us take the next step?

I for one would mind either as they are the best availiable, have pedigree and the longer we leave it the more difficult the situation will become.

  7. I think both Jurgen and Koeman would be ideal for villa, we are a quality club with a good attitude and these are well respected managers.Bradley, good in the USA but will the players respect an american approach from Bradley. Dont get me wrong i think he has a lot of posivtive qualities…..

  8. Best quality Bradley has is getting the best out of the team. Being American, I will admit the USA has very few very talented players. Donovan, Dempsey, Bradley, Onyewu (at times) and Howard are about it. But his best quality is getting the team to play together. He also isn’t afraid to change the formation up, change the team up and play differently against each team. Honestly I think the team would be behind Bradley because of Friedel being there. He’s a very well respected leader type player.

    • As an American, I disagree with your assessment of Bradley. His squad selection in the WC was very poor. The team constantly fell behind (this was also the case in qualifying, too). In a couple of matches, Bradley had to substitute his controversial selections off prior to halftime!

Also, he’s never had to manage a club with a real transfer market. In the US, even teams within MLS have General Managers that handle the transfers.

So, I could see Villa bringing Bradley on ONLY if they had someone else to handle the transfers. In other words, he would be an over-glorified “coach” and not a manager in typical football terms.

He’s not what we need. Although, I’m afraid he’s convienant and cheap. Both might factors might be appealing to Lerner.

  9. I disagree, i cant see the players getting behind or supporting Bradley. He has done nothing in the game to warrant ìt. Klinsmann may have failed at bayern but at i could see the players respecting him more due to his reputation as a player

  10. I think the connection between Klinsmann and Lerner is an interesting one. If you recall, Klinsmann was Lerner’s first choice when he was one of two competing offers to buy the club. However, MO was put in place prior to Randy’s offer being accepted. Technically, MO was hired by Deadly before the club was sold.

Inevitably, Lerner came out and stated that he could work with MO, and then it was all positive after that. MO was NEVER Lerner’s first choice for the job – it was Klinsmann.

So, if Klinsmann landed the job it wouldn’t surprise me at all. However, I believe that Klinsmann’s first choice is with the U.S. National team.

Apparently, he just met with U.S. team officials to discuss the position (ESPN – Soccernet/sarticle appears under US team notes). He currently lives in Los Angleles, and I believe he would be hesitant in moving. This was the case when he was the manager of the German national side.

I do believe, however, that he is helping Lerner with his short list. I believe this has been reported in the press or speculated on the blogs already.

  11. bradley wud b a waste of time wat happened 2 tha hitzfield rumours

  12. Here is the link to the article regarding Klinsmann meeting with U.S officials about their management job.

  13. My worry for Koeman or Klinsmann is their lack of premier league experience, too many top foreign coaches have failed I.e. Ramos, Scolari, Santini etc etc.

  14. Won’t be Bradley or Klinsmann. I agree that Klinsmann is probably involved in the selection of a coach though. Bradley doesn’t have a UEFA license.
Houlier is the one I think.

  15. Klinsmann was the face for the World Cup in Germany but it was Loew who did all the tactics and such. Is he available?

  16. If we had bouma at lb instead of beye the other night i really feel we would be in the groups now. Wish we had kept the guy.

  17. I would not be adverse one bit if koomans got the position ,at least hes come out and stated that fact, were as Kev Mac nice fella he is is dithering to much Decisive NOT indecisive you have to be more times than not to progress

  18. [...] SPECULATION : KLINSMANN top of Wish List and Bouma to Wigan [...] [...]

  19. villa yank
Unlike for Club, you can’t choose your players for the National Team by buying others. Bradley picked the best the USA has to offer and the team isn’t good. You have had to learn that by now, haven’t you?

    • Andrew

Bob Bradley’s match selection was heavily scrutinized during the word cup. I don’t know how anyone living in the states is not aware of his controversial selections during the wc.

      USA vs. Slovenia
Bradley selected Francisco Torres to start in the midfield. It was to be his first WC match. All the pundits questioned this selection and asked why Edu wasn’t getting the start. Torres played horribly!

The USA went down 2 – 0 at the half, and Torres was pulled off at the half. He was replaced at half by Edu. Findley was also taken off and replaced with another midfielder – Benny Feilhaber. These two changes changed the match. As a result, the USA came back to draw the match, should have won the match when a goal was disallowed, and played their most attractive football of the tournament in the 2nd half.

      USA vs. Algeria
So, what did Bradley do in the next match against Algeria? He started Hercules Gomes up top and left Feilhaber on the bench. He then hauled Gomes off at halftime, and brought on Feilhabber. Once again, it was then that the USDA started to play well.

      USA vs. Ghana
Then against Ghana he left both Feilhaber and Edu on the bench to start the match, and was forced to acknowledge his error by hauling Ricardo Clark off (at 31 minutes!!! – no injury) and replacing him with Edu! Feilhabber came on at halftime.

It did not take a brain surgeon to see that the US played its best football when both Feilhabber and Edu were on the pitch. Bradley failed to recognize this, and as a result the US continuously fell behind early in matches.

If you don’t like what I am saying then read this article written in Sports Ilustrated title “Bradley’s Lineup Changes Leave Unaswered Questions as US Falls.” http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2010/soccer/world-cup-2010/writers/steve_davis/06/26/ghana.usa.analysis/index.html

  20. It’s a poor man’s excuse to say his squad selection was poor. There was no one better other than Robbie Rogers that wasn’t picked. So you can’t use that against Bradley. The only thing you can use against him is he’s never managed a club team before, and even then we can’t judge him without trying him out. No matter what Brit’s say about him being a waste of time which is a joke.
