Dave Woodhall, who I am sure many of you know posted this on H&V this evening.
I’ve been having a few discussions with sources close to the Villa today, and here’s the curent state of play:
Due to the timing of Martin’s departure Kevin Mac was given the job on a short-term basis to provide stability and continuity. His knowledge of the players and success with the reserve team made this the logical choice, despite the last couple of results.
Interviews for the job will be taking place early next week. A manager could have been appointed already, but we don’t want just anyone – we need someone who understands how important the job of Aston Villa manager is. The right guy is out there, but getting him takes time, and when he arrives he will take the club forward.
Above all the overall thinking, the long-term plans and ambitions of everyone at Villa Park haven’t changed.
Now I can say with some certainty that Dave would not post this unless he was 100% sure of the source and this is of course the truth as the club are giving out.
Do I believe it ?
Well yes, KM confirmed the interview process was going to be next week and I never believed he was a serious candidate for the job and hoped he would not be appointed. However for many of you there are theories that you think are true that fits this perfectly.
With this glowing tribute from Koeman tonight it does seem there are managers really wanting the job (or are desperate for a job) and there must be some in current positions.
IF I am not to believe the negatives of Randy then I applaud him for taking his time and risking the wrath and anger of Villa supporters, if he gets the right manager with the right track record we will all be very happy and look to strengthen in the winter for an assault on the FA Cup. Of course the new manager will have 4 months to judge the players and pick the right new ones.
However if he gets this wrong, Randy’s reputation with the fans will never recover.
I would not want to be in his shoes at present.
Aston Villa News 24/7
Redknapp is different that team had been decimated in morale by Ramos, look at the team now and still the basis of the players he took over
ianrobo
yes but Ramos was instrumental in the rise of Sevilla so not a rubbish manager. Just shows the risk of appointing a foreign manager. Didn’t he have them (spurs) in a cup final followed by a disastrous start to season? That could be us. Whilst Spurs were a good squad I don’t recall anyone else putting them into fourth. Even more impressive against Man City spend before last season. He was also relatively successful at Portsmouth before they imploded due to financial situation (not his fault as he didn’t control finance). Lots of criticism by the way about MON for wages. Did he really set wages? Doubt it. Anyway, Redknapp not an option but do you think he would be no good? It would be nice to know who is going to be manager but again, who can we get that you, me and everyone else would be happy with. I’ve just talked myself into depression
it is crucial if we get foreign they can actually speak english, see Fabio
Hiddink, Hitzfeld, the dreamers choices are perfect
I dont really see what the club/board have done wrong …
I was a fan of MON, he brought a style of football to the club that was fast and exciting, in comparison to what we have been use to under the previous regime.
The fact is as we are all too aware, MON, had a plan, and i think in the end he could see his plan had failed. He bought some great players, and some very poor ones, or at least, ones he could not fit in to his jugsaw.
The buying british policy was admirable, but ultimately it has cost us a fortune.
Harewood
Siwell
NRC
Davies
Warnock – who for me has been average
Shorey
We all knew about Harewood but i think looking back, alot of clubs would have gone for Sidwell and Shorey on their Reading form.
Also NRC on his WHU form.
MKAC was the obvious man to take the short term control of the club, the board gambled on whether he could put some results on the board, but im sure now they are aware he isnt the man to take the full time post.
hitzfeld, Koeman, Jol are the only three choices i would be happy to see come in. But it will always be a gamble and a manager needs a bedding in period.
Best thing I’ve read today is that Gabby wants to finish his career with us.
agree Andrew, very good to read along with Ash’s comments, we do have the basis of a very good team !
I believe what Dave Woodhall has said is true and that if we want the right manager I do not mind Leaner taking his time on the issue. However, time waits for no man so the sooner we appoint the right manager the better for the team and the club.
Martin Jol would be my pick as he has premier and european experience
UTV
I don’t mind them taking their time to appoint the manager once its the right man. A kneejerk reaction to get someone in place for this transfer window would be a mistake. Get the right man and concentrate on the January transfer window. For me Jol is the best we have been linked with
Jol? He’s hardly won anything in his time. I thought “Villa fans” wanted managers with a winning pedigree?
Andrew
same with Koeman. His record is awful. Hitzfeld is 60, lives in Switzerland (low tax) and is still Swiss Manager I think. Probably perfect life for him, part time etc etc. I think he speaks English and would be an exciting choice, but i just can’t see him coming.
Jol didnt do a bad job at Spurs, I’d take two 5th place finishes in a row and playing decent football.
The manager thing aside doesn’t anyone else think we need to sign some players.
CM: Flamini on loan?
CF: Rodellega?
Team would then look like this:
Friedel
Warnock, Collins, Dunne, L Young
Downing Petrov, Flamini, Ireland, A Young
Gabby
That is a good team!
its amazing what a good tough holding midfield player would do for the side work wonders for sure
Jol has 2 titles
Koeman has 18 titles
In there manager careers. Now pick which one you’d like? Koeman also has 2 CL trophies…
When did Koeman win the CL as a manager?
you also fail to mention Koeman’s record at Valencia where he took them to 15th in the table and alienated half of the squad and his highly successful spell at AZ Alkmaar when he took over the reigning champions and then lost 7 of his first 16 games.
I know Jol’s not the best in the world, he’s certainly no Martin O’Neill but given the awful timing of O’Neills exit we find ourselves without a manager at the worst possible time. Jol would be perfect if only to tide us over for one season.
The party line – which tells us nothing at all!
Why would Jol want to leave Ajax
He has just led them to the Champions League group stage. And he’s got massive home and away matches against Real Madrid and AC Milan coming up.
Indeed Dudley. Already said he wasn’t coming unless they were knocked out, showing that we’re not on his mind… Plus why waste compensation?
The General on all the forums has basically confirmed this
these reports get crapper and crapper
theres nothin we can do but wait and see
