ITK – Is this the true story

Dave Woodhall, who I am sure many of you know posted this on H&V this evening.

LINK

I’ve been having a few discussions with sources close to the Villa today, and here’s the curent state of play:

Due to the timing of Martin’s departure Kevin Mac was given the job on a short-term basis to provide stability and continuity. His knowledge of the players and success with the reserve team made this the logical choice, despite the last couple of results.

Interviews for the job will be taking place early next week. A manager could have been appointed already, but we don’t want just anyone – we need someone who understands how important the job of Aston Villa manager is. The right guy is out there, but getting him takes time, and when he arrives he will take the club forward.

Above all the overall thinking, the long-term plans and ambitions of everyone at Villa Park haven’t changed.

Now I can say with some certainty that Dave would not post this unless he was 100% sure of the source and this is of course the truth as the club are giving out.

Do I believe it ?

Well yes, KM confirmed the interview process was going to be next week and I never believed he was a serious candidate for the job and hoped he would not be appointed. However for many of you there are theories that you think are true that fits this perfectly.

  • Randy not willing to spend this summer
  • Randy too hesitant when picking a manager
  • Randy really wanted to give the job to KM
    • With this glowing tribute from Koeman tonight it does seem there are managers really wanting the job (or are desperate for a job) and there must be some in current positions.

IF I am not to believe the negatives of Randy then I applaud him for taking his time and risking the wrath and anger of Villa supporters, if he gets the right manager with the right track record we will all be very happy and look to strengthen in the winter for an assault on the FA Cup. Of course the new manager will have 4 months to judge the players and pick the right new ones.

However if he gets this wrong, Randy’s reputation with the fans will never recover.

I would not want to be in his shoes at present.

      1. WTF?!?!?interviews next week?hope thats BS and we appoint someone right after the everton game so we can hopefully sign someone.

      2. Come on Randy take your time and pick the right man, dont want to be one of these clubs that rush and get it wrong only to have to start again in 12-18 months down the line!

        UTV

      3. and there we have within minutes of the post the two conflicting arguments !!

      4. my guess is that at the club we have already written off this season until at least the winter

      5. “ITK” and “sources” = BS?
sounds like he was stating the obvious

      6. We’re currently in a mess. Not a big mess, but a mess all the same.

It’ll take some sorting, so Lerner/Faulkner had better make absolutely sure that they make the right decision.

      7. Dave on this will have a proper source but it comes from the club and is hardly saying we will buy anyone straight away

I think we can write this season off somewhat and if we get the right person then so be it

      8. Roger that Ian!!

No doubt with the timing of MON leaving it has left us in a poor situation!! Thats why the next move has to be taken with care!

      9. With all the predators gathering for the vacant managers post…I just hope Randy Lerner can give me a trace of faith in him by picking the right man. My only concern is as the same with the past 5 managers and even earlier…will it be another 3-4 year spell or is there a chance we could actually get a manager who may be committed on the longer term? It would be in the clubs best interests if the chairman fully explained to the new manager the benchmark of where we stand in regards to competing in the transfer market for players before picking his predator. This having been a major mistake when O’Neill took charge and was given free reign over transfers and wages and therefore allowing our wage bill to spiral out of control.

Obviously with all this in mind, I would have thought someone with previous links to the club would be as good a option as anyone, as an outsider may not understand the history and appreciation for Villa as it is. Not that is probably matters in todays age? Lerner still has the chance to win me over as O’Neill was Ellis’s pick and therefore is still to be judged on his ability to appoint his own manager/s.

      10. Why all the negativity? KM has benn unlucky with the defence being injured and at Newcastle it would have been different if big John would have slotted in the penalty (ball has yet to be found!)
I thought we looked good on Thursday going forward, Gabby looked sharp and Heskey worked hard as ever for the team but it all changed when Gabby went off!!the defence is our problem Beye and Davies aren’t good enough and Guzan is worse than any Scottish keeper!!
Come on guys we have s good team here and Ireland is still 1 yard off the pace give him time and we will be good!!!
        Jurgen Klinsman for the job

      11. I have been on a three day week for the past 16 months but 75% of my colleagues were made redundant, so I suppose I consider myself to be fortunate. I haven’t got a season ticket and only get down for the matches I can afford, or maybe ill afford? Our footballers earn more in a week than the majority of us earn in 2 – 3 years and I’ve got to say that if I performed as badly as some on Thursday (and Sunday) I would have been made redundant too.

We urgently need a new manager in place but I’m afraid it’s not KM. He’s a lovely guy who should go back to what he does best, running the reserves. We need a top flight coach and not one from America. Also, I think it’s time we elected a new captain because I’m afraid that Petrov offers little encouragement when the chips are down. I would also question his own game, he definitely bottled it last Sunday after Joey Barton kicked him. (He also stood off when Barton scored his goal).

What was wrong with playing Lichaj at right back on Thursday night? Carlos, as we are sick of pointing out, is NOT A RIGHT BACK. He’s hesitant and put under pressure as soon as he receives the ball in the right back position. He is a decent centre back but definitely not a right back.

Which brings us nicely on to the centre of defence. I can’t wait to see Dunn and Collins back together and either one of them should be made captain. I’m afraid MON was right about Davies and please don’t play Beye at left back again. I thought our most aggressive player Thursday night, both in defence and attack, was Collins (he wouldn’t be a bad stand in at centre forward either).

But to get back onto the theme of the blog, let’s get the right man and soon. Also, let us hope there is transfer iron in the fire.

      12. I am willing to wait for the new man, I am willing to write off this season, I am willing to go into the first half off the season with no further player investment but if Ashley Young is sold to Spurs I will seriously have to reassess whether the “powers that be” any longer have the best interests of Aston Villa at heart.

      13. Genius, time to assault the FA cup or fight relegation!

        Grief this better be wrong!

      14. We all thought that we’d have long term stability with the previous manager and never. How many other clubs have had a long term manager in our division? There are a couple but the majority are 4 seasons at most. The problem is that we want success and that requires investment in the team. Randy has been doing this but he had the wrong man buying expensive players giving big wages that never played.

      15. so what is the itk news?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? we already know interviews next week? and the rest is the propaganda shit the general spouts off about . … Get a grip Ian FFS

      16. It was only right that Kev Mac was given a shot at the job. However, regardless of what happens against Everton on Sunday, it’s clear that Kev is a coach, not a Prem manager with the necessary leadership and motivational skills required to move the team forward. So, let Randy take his time and appoint the right man. There ARE some good candidates out there – Koeman and Hitzfeld for starters – and let’s not forget the next appointment will shape the club for at least the next three/four years as O’Neill’s team is dismantled and a new squad forged in the new manager’s image. This season looks as though it will play out as a period of stabilisation…a decent cup run and a top 10 finish is about the best we can hope for. Carew, Petrov, Davies, Beye, Cuellar, and Sidwell are all on borrowed time at VP and I’d be surprised if any of them were still at VP this time next year…just hope that Ash doesn’t get his head turned by Appy Arry between now and next Tuesday! An interesting week ahead fellow Villans! In Randy we, er, trust!

      17. We are in deep shit and Lerner the liar leech is to blame for all this!!

      18. this is not an ITK. this is just vague, general, sweeping statements that a five year old could summise. here’s some ITK villa are going to sign a manager during the international break. I know it’s a big shout but I’m putting it out there!!!!!!
        These ITK’s are getting worse

      19. Better to take our time than rush in and hire only who’s immediately available! Act in haste – repent at leisure!!! Only fool rush in etc…etc…

      20. Just as in first two posts everyone has an opinion so who’s right? Lots of posts saying Lerner better get it right but we all want someone different, so (again)who is right? Only Man U and Arsenal have kept faith with their managers, everyone else changes manager every few years or less. Personally, I think we missed the boat with Mark Hughes going to Fulham but that’s MONs fault. Most of the names bandied around fill me with dread. Koemans record is rubbish, so is Klinsmans at club level. Much as everyone slags him off I wish we had Harry Redknapp. Look what he has done at Spurs (relagation candidates to Champs League in two seasons)and I doubt he has spent more than MON did during the same period. And they play good football. Flame away!!
