Before I speak about the game whose bright idea was it to use a orange ball, good job Hendrie is no longer with us, though Sidwell scored !
And watching it with Dutch commentators is not as good as the Yanks we had for the Peace Cup.
Onto the game and the First half was a non event with Albrighton’s fantastic strike being the only noteworthy thing to mention from Villa’s point of view and Feyenoord’s pace caused us problems with a very static defence for their goal.
The second half was a much brighter prospect for Villa with numerous chances created and looking much better in a 442 than the 4411 we started with. to be honest Carew had a legitimate goal ruled offside and Davies should really have scored to make the game comfortable by half time.
Heskey then scored to make it a deserved 2-1 after the 2nd half performance a neat finish from a cross. on the 77th minute, Sidwell scored a deserved third from a 20 yarder from a corner.
Good run out for Villa and we improved as the game got better and we got physical presence up front, Gabby’s lack of form is worrying.
However the plus side is Marc Albrighton who second half caused their left back all kind of problems and scored a wonder goal.
He HAS to start against West Ham
Not going to comment on the penalty shoot out farce
Aston Villa News 24/7
Suppose we sign Keane. (A big if, to be sure.) At this rate, I would much prefer Carew and Keane to Gabby and Keane. Gabby just does not look very good right now.
Agree, I would agree with Keane and Carew with Gabby’s amazing speed off the bench.
Gabby looks so over weight, he has to be careful
no idea if we will get a forward if Hesey can not be sold
Reo-Coker do we owe this loser a living?
says something when Sidwell improved us
I’ve always liked Reo-Coker. But, sheesh, he hasn’t looked very good this preseason. That said, unless Milner stays, what other options do we have? Do we really want to play Sidwell? Will Sidwell even be here in two weeks?
Did ashley or downing play tonight? I’ve not seen the game however they are ‘supposed’ to be our creative players?
yep young did fine, Downing not so but missed a guilt edge chance
did you guys know there was a pk shootout after the game?
weird thing is it was between benfica and villa and ended 4-4. yes a draw in pk
Coker…i just don’t see what he does…We’ll i do see what he does..he does f-all….Why do we pay this loser thousands of pound a week to do f-all?? The bloke must be the luckiest person on the face of this planet.
christian – It was Feyenoord & Villa in the shoot out.
your right. i misread it
Downing has been so poor tonight. Missed golden chance due to his bad first touch. Gabby was bad, Beye too. Lichaj seemed to be better and he has very good throw-ins.
And young Marc is a must starter on the right wing. That is for sure.
Reo-Cocker made the first goal for Marc, Nigel has won the ball in the middle for him.
Majkee – It was a 25 yard corker…How can you give Reo-Joker credit for that??? hahaha he made the goal have a word with yourself…
Nigel made the breakaway, that is for sure. It was takeaway by him, passed it to Marc, so the credit went to him. Didn’t you see that?
Majkee – no i don’t.
We all have strong opinions about our beloved Villa. And many of us think that certain players who are automatic choices are not always worthy of a starting place.
As far as I can tell, in MON’s 4-4-2, there is probably only the selections of Friedel and Dunne on whom we would ALL agree.
But to set up a user name ridiculing a Villa player (undeservedly so imo), and then use every post to relentlessly insult him is beyond fickle.
