Sometimes pre season tells you little and sometimes a lot but the FACT Albrighton has played in every game, the only player I think that has must tell us everything.
Like last pre season he has made a massive impact but unlike last pre season for me he looks ready and his goal tonight was fantastic, he is ready. What is the point of him playing every game if he is not to start, we may still want McGeady and we need some cover especially if Ash or Downing may play in the middle but Albrighton should now be given the chance.
You know what I think I speak on the vast vast majority of Villa fans here and if he does not start against West Ham (baring injury of course) then MON will deserve a lot of criticism for that.
He is ready, he has terrific delivery, a good shot and determination. There is nothing to dislike about the lad and now is his time.
Be brave Martin, you know it makes sense.
(BTW – search this blog for Albrighton and you will see just how good and great I think this lad can be)

i dont think he should start. he should def play but not start. think we need to ease him in, giving him more and more time in every game, then finally starting him vs weak teams like blackpool if he does well
would say West Ham are a weak team
they are yet i dont think we beat them last season

i guess anything is better than downing.+ i really want to see ash play in the LW again
I personally think Johnson is just as overrated as Downing.
Albrighton should definitely start over Downing (depending on if McGeady comes or not)
he might be overrated but hes was cheaper and more efective for man city

I’ve liked the look of albrighton for a couple of years, put in some sterling performances for the reserves, but I would say look at the first game of last season, delph had a great game against fiorentina and everyone said he should start and in the end the central midfield was where we looked most vulnerable. I’d love albrighton to be a regular, and for me, the jury’s still out on downing, think a lot depends on this season, but wouldn’t be too hasty too say people must be starting. Looking forward to kick-off though. After the shambles of the world cup, feels like i’ve been without footy since may! UTV!
I watched the Game against Feyenord 2nite and i agree with every1′s sentiments on Albrighton. He deserves a place in the team. I don’t think it will be long b4 we’re fending off the bigger teams for his signiature. We better sign him up to a long term contract and soon. I don’t wanna see what happened with Milner to happen with anymore of our young players. He looks to have the makings of a real top pro in him, definitely!!!
The right back was very impressive also. I have to say that i was very impressed with the whole back 4 for the most part. I don’t think we should let Curtis Davies go at all. He and Carlos Cuellar look very assured 2nite in the centre. We will need to rest Dunne and Collins thru the season and Davies and Carlos will fit in there very easily indeed.
Bannon lookd good aswell in midfield. Speaking of DOWNING! I would like to see MON give him a run out in the centre of midfield. He played thru the middle at Boro and did a great job for them in the Prem Lge. Downing is going thru a crisis of confidence since his leg break. Some players take a long time to get their head right after something like that. You all may think i’m being soft on Downing but i think he’l come good for us eventually this yr.
I was really impressed with our performance 2nite. We have some things to work on but for the most part i think we have a lot to look forward to over the next 2yrs. The future definitely looks bright at AVFC but it will depend on whether MON gives these good youngsters a chance to prove themselves. I feel really happy 2nite after watching that game. We kept good possession at times. Yes, we have a lot of improving to do but it’s no time for panic.
If Milner is sold then well and good. We’ll have 25mil and a player? maybe to add to the squad. I still want to see these top young players given their heads this season. O’Neill has to give it to them sometime…Why not this season?? Every1 said Ferguson would win nothing with kids and he gave his trust to those young players and look what they did….I’m not saying we have a group that good but we have at least a handful good enuf for the 1st team.
I’m looking forward to the season ahead….No doubt we will have ups and downs but if we play some of these youngsters i’ll bite my tongue for a yr….UTV…UTV…
