SPECULATION : Milner ‘DONE DEAL’ for cash plus Ireland, has improved bid been made

Not see this mentioned elsewhere but the Independent on Sunday is reporting Milner is a ‘done deal’

LINK

James Milner’s move from Aston Villa to Manchester City is a “done deal”, but Martin O’Neill is holding out for at least £25m, The Independent on Sunday understands.

An impeccable source said that the Villa manager would hold out for every penny he could get for the England midfielder but that O’Neill would be interested in a player-plus-cash deal, with City’s Stephen Ireland of particular interest.

I think I speak on behalf of every Villa fan that we just want this situation finished ASAP now, it seems to be holding everything else up and all of us are totally bored of it.

I reported a couple of weeks ago that ‘Mysteryman’ on VT said it was a done deal then so you do wonder why it has took so long to get it completed.

EDIT : Someone it seems with a good rep on City’s Bluemoon forum has claimed an improved bid has been made – LINK

  1. Thanks Michael Porter.
Personally I think that Ireland + 14.5 mill would be really good business if Villa is to lose Milner, as now seems very likely indeed. However stories of Ireland’s reluctance to come to VP are a bit disconcerting. What really worry me, though, are the continuing reports that O’Neill will then go out and spend c10 mill of that precious transfer cash on McGeady from Celtic. From what I’ve seen of him, he looks to be a fair to middling player in what is a very poor league, and imho will turn out to be the new Maloney, only much more expensive. Surely there must be better players in the whole wide world to spend 10 mill on, if only O’Neill would show a bit more imagination and courage in the transfer market. If McGeady truly is the best we can attract at the moment, I’d rather we bought no-one and gave a few of the kids a real chance.

  2. Ireland is a better player than Milner so will be really pleased with any money we get on top of the swop. Plus because Citeh have dumped Ireland he will have something to prove as did Dunne. Milner is a good player but cannot see him improving much at Citeh, if he had gone to Manure Fergie would have improved him so goodbye James and the best of luck……you will need it!

  3. McGeady is not as good as Maloney, and we all know how that went!!
If we can keep the squad together, with the exception of letting milner go, as well as sidwell, heskey and shorey, and add Ireland, Keane and another good player.. We’ll be better than last season

  4. we should hold out for £20m plus Ireland, they can afford it and if they want him that bad they will pay it considering they was stupid enough to pay £25m for Lescott last year.

  5. Hi Ianrobo,

this is a link to the homegrown-rule. Hope it will function.

  6. thanks and does show surely bargains at Man City we should be looking at and getting

  7. We will sell Milner, that is sure. And it´s right for a price in the region of 25 Mio. MON will get in 3 or 4 players for that and it will strenghten our squad – no doubt about it. My favourits would be Keane, Ireland and 2 foreign players, Witsel could be one of them.

And once more: buying british was a master stroke in the last couple of years, even if it brought us no immediate success. It shows, that MON has a long term plan.

  8. MoN will buy 3 or 4 players spending £30 mill plus and maybe get ONE half decent player (Reo Coker, Curtis Davis, Emule Heskey, Sidwell, Harewood) all come to mind. Milner and Young will fund his next lot of buys.

  9. Milner and Young? Young isn’t going anywhere. Lerner rates him far too highly.

  10. Ireland is a far better centre mid on his daythan Milner, more creative, better goal scorer and a better tackler, he is just a little bit insane. If we get him and 14mil i would be extatic. I would swap ireland for milner as a straight swap just quietly. We have been linked to Flamini in a few differant places if we can get him and a good forward it will be the best transfer market we have had since MON took over.

I’m Irish and i’ve seen a bit of McGeady playing and i would much rather we gave albrighton a shot than signed him, especially for the money thats been talked about.

  12. getting bored now, do the deal and lets move on, mon never deals until the last minute, milners good but he`s only really had one good season and on his world cup display £20.00 would look good.

  13. I think that this statement is getting boring. My thought’s on if Milner goes to Manchester City for £25 million and we get Stephan Ireland, then we get Ireland to his best I think that it will be a Fantastic buy.

  14. Hi Ian., I can confirm the only thing holding the deal up now is Irelands reluctance to join Villa. Mancini has re contacted O’Neill to re adjust the bid to include Shaun Wright Phillips – but O’Neill is playing hard ball & wants Ireland ! Contrary to reports yesterday, the meeting with Milner and his lagal team did not go well & he’s insistent on leaving Villa. There are 4 to 5 deals being held up due to the Milner saga. one is a huge deal for a striker.
I will post more as and when I receive the information – if requested !

  15. Hi Michael, thanks for that.

Oh f course some people will be sceptical of what you say but Ireland has few other choices I reckon and as posted SWP can eff off !!

    Please keep us posted.

  16. would like to know more about the striker michael, especially if it is ‘not’ robbie keane
