Not see this mentioned elsewhere but the Independent on Sunday is reporting Milner is a ‘done deal’
James Milner’s move from Aston Villa to Manchester City is a “done deal”, but Martin O’Neill is holding out for at least £25m, The Independent on Sunday understands.
An impeccable source said that the Villa manager would hold out for every penny he could get for the England midfielder but that O’Neill would be interested in a player-plus-cash deal, with City’s Stephen Ireland of particular interest.
I think I speak on behalf of every Villa fan that we just want this situation finished ASAP now, it seems to be holding everything else up and all of us are totally bored of it.
I reported a couple of weeks ago that ‘Mysteryman’ on VT said it was a done deal then so you do wonder why it has took so long to get it completed.
EDIT : Someone it seems with a good rep on City’s Bluemoon forum has claimed an improved bid has been made – LINK
Aston Villa News 24/7
I would take Ireland, and I agree lets just get it sorted.
How can it be a “done deal” if MON is holding out for more money? That doesn’t make any sense. I suppose they really mean it’s a “foregone conclusion.”
you think VFT the press care about nuances like that ??
Kind of feel bad for Milner in all of this. Especially because everything said is between O’Neill and the agent and now every time he comes to Villa Park he’s going to get booed.
villain from texas,
Exactly what i thought. The press are idiots.
If we get Ireland plus cash and MON can get him playing like he did 2 seasons ago, this is a great bit of business.
James Milner WILL sign for Manchester City on Tuesday in a deal worth £24.5M. It’s actaully £14.5 plus Stephen Ireland – valued at £10M. The only thing that held up the deal was Stephen Ireland – who was holding out for a move to Liverpool.
O’Neill will move for Aiden McGeady – and pay £9M for the Celtic winger.
Thanks Michael, how certain of this are you ?
So what happens if Mon does turn around Irelands career and he reaches the levels of 2 years a go? Do Man City then come back in with a bid of 25 million for him too?
Mons track record with declining players and motivation mean we could do this with 3 or 4 of citys players per year and make a packet out of them. Lets take Richards and SWP while were at it.
Gone are the days of excitement of the transfer window to see who we might buy, it’s more the dread now of who we might lose. Yes I’ll be sad to lose James Milner, he has a great engine, but there are more creative midfield players around and maybe Stephen Ireland is one of them. Plus this should free up more funds to improve our striker options. So, if this deal is going to happen let’s get it done and dusted without any further delay and get our heads around the new lineup.
I would take Ireland, but what about another Jo as city want Balotelli
Jo is garbage.
Ireland has been holding out for a move to Liverpool?
Oh great! Just what we need, a player who rates us second best, and what’s the betting he turns out to be another Sidwell?????????
It gets dafter and dafter by the day.
Should realy be after any individuals that *actualy want to play for Aston Villa first over any other team*.But if milner goes and ireland actualy can get his form back of 2 seasons ago then it may than it currently seems.Time will ultimatly tell as always.
Liverpool wanted Barry, he wanted to leave Villa but MON refused to sell him for £15m. For more than a season ‘The Gareth Barry saga’ turned into a much used and very handy excuse and then we sold him for £12m.
Nobody wants this to turn into James Milner saga except apparently MON. They are offering more than the player is worth, he does not want to stay at Villa. Why complicate it MON? Get it done and move swiftly on.
The most interesting thing about this transfer window is the fact, that all teams have to name a 25-men squad whith 8 homegrown players in it. For an example, Arsenal doesn´t fullfil this criteria with class-players at the moment. They have to buy good homegrown players and it´s the same with Chelsea. At the same time Man City has the problem, to get rid of fringe players and there are foreign and homegrown players at disposal.
What I expect is a absolutly hot end (last day) of this transfer window. MON knows that and it could give him a very good possibility to squezze out the best price – for selling and buying. The new rule will open the title-race and it will bring more excitement. AND BETTER CHANCES FOR OUR BELOVED VILLA!!
Joty excellent point, though with Arsenal they have a number of ‘homegrown’ foreigners including Cesc
wonder is there a link to show who has what, obviously we are are fine !!
It will go on for ages and in the end we’ll only get like 24-26 million despite the fact they could pay us a billion and hardly notice. We’ll have little time to build a team for next season because we don’t have the funds til the milner deal is done, and go into next season underprepared.
OR
We’ll sell him tomorow for 28-30 million or something plus Ireland, buy a striker in the next week or so and then maybe add a couple more to strengthen the squad. Then sign Iniesta on a free.
I just hate that once again we are the subject of the summers main transfer saga.
If we can get any player from City, I want De Jong. He was one of City’s best players and was one of the best midfielders at the World Cup (besides the game against Spain). I’d take Ireland + De Jong (rated at 25m) for Milner
This new homegrown rule is utterly pathetic if it includes foreign players. Either have a proper homegrown rule or don’t bother
ianrobo., Let me assure you I am very reliably informed about the Milner transfer – I’m sure you as well as other villa fans would respect my views more if this deal happens on Tuesday as I first mentioned. I do have other news regarding Villa but let me be judged on when this one happens.
The other news? Please can you confirm that we are not about to throw away our whole budget on the Irish Mafia? The group as lead by the new favourite Dunne!
Please say it ain’t so? Please
Thanks Michael I await with interest for sure the Milner thing is coming to a conclusion, we hope !!
If you have any other stuff please e-mail me, promise nothing will be published.
