Before people get themselves uptight about this result, it is only a friendly but against a Bohemians reserve side and a side got beaten 4-1 by TNS.
This is a disappointing result because we had two sloppy goals against the run of play and dominated the whole game, created chances but did not take them.
Problem is, it showed the same old problems and why the new signings must address them
To leave it with the following from extratime.ie the 3ummary and just confirms what I thought about Albrighton
Bohemians 2 – 1 Aston Villa
90′ – Full Time – Is all over here as Bohs win 2-1. Villa fans shouldn’t get worried yet as these are only pre-season friendlies and the transfer window is still open. Martin O’ Neill will need to buy a few creative players but I think he has gem in youngster Marc Albrighton who looks livley. Will he get his chance this season? Who knows. Thats it from at Dalymount Park.
=====================================================================
Team has been announced and interesting
Friedel,
Lichaj, Dunne, Clark, Shorey,
Albrighton, Petrov, Reo-Coker, Downing, A Young,
Agbonlahor
Could be a 4-3-3 or more likely a 4-5-1, the position a lot of us want and the team I almost want with no new signings. Good to see Clark get a start and Lichaj at right back instead of Cuellar.
Randy is at the game.
Usual updates on Villa’s OS and this one from the Irish standpoint
Kick of at 15:03 and Villa straight on the attack
15 mins – as you would expect all Villa and created a fair few chances, loads of Villa fans there showing their support for MON
20 mins – Shock as Bohemian GOAL as Friedel makes a complete hash of a clearance and Powell scored
30 mins – suppose you could say typical Villa, total dominance as you would expect but simply can not put chances away, Gabby has had two of them and then a stupid goal
HALF TIME – Disappointing for Villa as we never turned dominance into goals and an howler gave Bohemians their goal. It should be noted that this is a Bohemians reserve side as they played against TNS earlier this week and lost 4-0
2nd HALF – Carew, Beye and Cuellar on for Gabby, Lichaj and Clark
on the Irish feed
kid was also asked who their favourite Aston Villa player was. I think it was a wind-up but she said James Milner, which was followed by a chorus of boo’s from the Villa fans.
Of course the OS not mentioned this !
62 mins – much of the same, Villa attack but no goals
65 mins – Osbourne on for NRC
69 mins – GOAL finally breakthrough as Albrighton crosses for Carew, Bannan on for Downing
80 mins – Bannan making an impressive appearance forced the keeper into two saves, Hogg on for Petrov
85 mins – Madden scores for Bohemians another sloppy goal
FULL TIME – 2-1 disappointing defeat
Aston Villa News 24/7
I guess they’re not screening the game absolutely anywhere on the web…
would like to see more of habib on the right also… heard he is looking sharp. also think that albrighton should break into the first team this year… Mon needs to use more youth players surely this year.
UTV
I think it is looking like Lichaj may be getting a run this season and Beye off
can not find any stream at all
Don’t think Albrighton’s good enough. Needs a loan. Simply just not good enough for a top 6 team.
He is no where near good enough.
we need a striker big time
any changes?
no point in goin to the villa this year were shite
please mon get rid of gabby
I give up !!
Your an idiot, it’s pre season, do you see chelsea fans sayin get rid of players cuz they lost to Ajax, no! you ain’t a fan so shut up.
Wouldn’t say Villa are shite, they’re just lacking a spark it seems. No one in the midfield to really kick it up.
just the same old problem we see, unable to break down massed defences, that is why the next two signings or so are vital
very impressing…NOT
Please don’t come down the villa this season Karlo, anyone who thinks we should sell Gabby clearly fails to grasp the game of football. Eijit
Can someone actually give feedback on the game instead of saying its shite or don’t go down the game or not impressive…
I want a player feedback, like a player rating and why, like how did Reo Coker do, how did Downing do in the centre, is Petrov worth hes place this season, Is Albrighton showing any improvement, how did Dunne do with Clarke at the back, is Friedel past hes best, who’s fault were the goals, How is Agbonlahor looking, was there any service, and how actually well did Lichj do at the back… I want to see how we are actually progressing, of course its only a pre season game, and the lads will only get a kick up the arse when we lose our first game of the season, but i would like to know how we are actually doing…
Should Reo Coker really be sold ? Should we sell L.Young and Beye, did shorey do anything at LB should he be sold ??
Come lets actually talk about our team.
Ryan, the problem is that no one actually saw the game, unless they were there.
So you just have idiots commenting when they saw nothing, how pathetic and they call themselves Villa fans, These are fringe players, and players who are playing in different positions and formations, and these players havent played together they are a mix match of players, its more to see where players fitness is who is looking sharpe etc etc, games like the last game where it was basically the first game that is where people can take a fair reflection of the match.
You guys can call the Villa fans idiots for commenting on the 2-1 loss, but this shows a lot. It shows the Fringe players are obviously not up to the task. It shows that the players are lacking awareness of it all and it’s showing that Milner’s transfer saga is truly getting to the players. I know they’re friendlies, but friendlies tell you a lot about a team.
Did Wolves beat these 3 – 0 a couple of days ago?
A number of first team players in there, so not a good result, even though I’ve not seen it, that’s just my humble opinion, as it seems like comments that are not agreed with on here, are slagged off, or ridiculed, nice!
It’s the first time the Fringe players have played and played together, i don’t really care about Milner i hope he goes, we don’t need players who want to go, sell him for Ireland and Richards plus 10m, Buy Keane for 6m or even Bellamy for 5m he might not be the kind of player we like to see but he was second best to Tevez, Sell L.Young and Beye and you have Richards and Lichaj for Right back, Ireland a swap replacement for Milner and Keane to partner Agbonlahor with Carew coming on as a sub or playing 60minutes, perhaps bring in McGeady or Bentley as well… I think Villa would then be ready for next season, I think the key signing would be Keane.
I just got back from the game.
The game itself was played like an end of season game or even a pre-season friendly…because that’s it all it bloody was!!!!! League of Ireland teams are not that bad, I was very surprised Bohs were so well beaten by TNS, plus, they’re half way into their season and a lot fitter. And despite all that Villa pretty much dominated from start to finish.
As for the players, Ashley was lively all game, Gabby was OK, Downing was alright in the centre but crosses weren’t great, Lichaj made one great run forward, very pacy, Carew made a difference when he came on, Albrighton should probably be our right-winger this season and Bannan also looks like a promising player, the rest were average/solid.
It’s all about getting up to fitness and that’s all it was, anyone moaning and complaining about this result is being ridiculous.
A few signings, and give the likes of Bannan, Albrighton and the others a chance, and we’ll be fine.
thanks GG, will put that up as an eyewitness report
this was I reckon 6 players who would start the new season so a useful exercise but as I said we really have to put away chances and that is what Keane does best to address for me.
